Fashion or Friends?
|
I am sure all of you know the store brands "Abercrombie and Fitch", "abercrombie", and "Hollister" right? I know there all fashion hot spots, but if you look cool, what effects does that have on your BFF? It actually happened to me once. Fashion got in the way of a life long relationship.
Of course, it was a normal day at Goodson Middle School. Everyone was rushing from previous classes to thier next class on the green schedule they had in thier hand, including me and my "BFF" at the time. Her name was Courtney. She always had a small problem with a little problem of being a little overweight. She never cared about what she looked like until, a new girl stepped into our 6th grade lives.
Her name was Kayla. Always popular, her family was rich, and she was beautiful. At first niether of us cared much about Kayla. But eventually, Courtney had invited her over to her house to see what type of person she was.
I remeber that day so clearly. Kayla stepped out of a Bright Blue Corvette car that Kayla's sister was driving. It was brand new. The car had sleek wheels, a fresh new car smell (which apparently Kayla hated) and a furry steering wheel. It was one magnificent car! I could tell right there and then something was going to happen to the way Courtney looked at Kayla. And sure enough, it did.
After swimming at Courtney's house, we went to Kayla's house. OH MY GOODNESS! It was the biggest house i'd ever seen in my entire life! Kayla's room was the most exciting part! It was painted baby blue, with a baby blue bed, with baby blue sheets, so basicly EVERYTHING WAS BABY BLUE! As we stepped into her closet, i knew that i was, again, going to be amazed. The whole closet was Abercrombie and Fitch, Hollister, and abercrombie. Out of all of us, I think Courtney had to be the most amazed. Thats what worried me.
I never saw courtney that weekend. She never called or texted me either. That was really unusual. I almost began to sense there was something wrong, when I finally recived a phone call from her.
" Lindy! Won't Belive where I just got back from!" Courtney exclaimed!
Apparently, she just got back from the mall. She had just been shopping at abercrombie! I couldn't believe what I was hearing! She never cared about her looks before! I was devestated.
On Monday, she came to school in one of her new outfits. I actually liked it a lot! It was a shirt that said abercrombie new york, with a light blue moose in the middle and matching pants. It really was a cute outfit! Unknowing Courtney's reactions, I kindly said, " Thats really cute! I might want to get one similar to that!" And thats when it all started.
" Are you saying your going to copy my wardrobe?" asked Courtney suspiciously.
" NOOOOO!" I replyed quickly! I was afraid what was going to happen next!
She hated me from then on. She was always afraid I was going to steal the outfit. Not literally steal, but steal the style. I don't get why she thought I wanted to steal "her" style, because it wasn't her style! It was just what was In. I didnt know what to do. She chose her fashion over true friend. I actually tried to be her friend again after the whole incedent. But when she wanted the "fashion attention," she wouldn't get it from me. Over and over, she kept getting mad at me for fashion that she thought was hers. Once she even said "Why cant you appricaiate what you already have!?"
I was always upset at that. She would make me go home everyday, crying. Courtney just never understood.
Now, I own a couple of those similar clothes, and even though usually, we don't talk, she says "Lindy, those would look better on me!" I know how to live with it now. But still. Never make the mistake she did. Always choose Friends over fashion. Never Fashion over Friends.

My neices had a battle over that once. They both eyed the same shirt while on vacation, and it caused disharmony between them for the entire trip. One bought it and the other resented it. Sad. |

i hate ppl like that. my schools filled w/ them. sorry guys, the only person that can say "ur stealing my style" is the person that makes the clothes =/. nd they obviously dont care. theres a REASON why there is more than one style of the same shirt out there, or whatever... |
