Twisted Tales (The Heat)
|
It was about the middle of June when it happened. It was 115 degrease outside and it was rising, FAST. Earlier I decided to conduct an experiment. I put two buckets outside, one with ice and one with ice-cold water. The experiment was to see the difference of time it would take for each one to turn hot. Obviously the cooled water would be hot first, right? By the time I checked them it had only been ten minutes and the tempter had went from 115 to 125. I looked in each bucket. The ice had already melted. I put a finger in each bucket. Surprisingly the bucket with the ice had hotter water than the one with the cooled water. I looked around there wasn’t a soul outside, except my own. I looked at the ground as the sun was beating down on me. A puddle of sweat lay at my feet. Franticly, I ran inside. Ah, the nice cool indoors. But, right when I go to turn the air conditioner up it breaks. This could only happen me. After 20 minutes the house is like the stove, HOT. All of this heat was making me so thirsty. I flew to the kitchen and tore open the door. I started gulping down like there was no tomorrow. Thankfully I remembered something my grandma had told me. She said that if you put lairs of clothes and you sweat, when a breeze flew by, it will feel cool. So I put lairs of clothes on. I soon became drenched in sweat in a matter of seconds. I waited for a breeze but there was no hope – I was just cooking myself faster. I quickly tore off the layers until I was just in my best friend’s boxers and a tang top. I wanted to jet to Heather’s house for some cooling down but feared I would cook alive before I got there. I scattered around my house looking for a water jug. I had to settle for a small 1 gallon one. I filled it up to the fullest it would go. Heather’s house was only eight houses away but with this unbearable heat I didn’t want to take any chances. The walk seemed to last forever! All around me my neighbors plants were dead – no sign of life at all. Was this the end of the world I thought to myself. If this was then I was doing one of the dumbest things in the word. Then a disturbing thought occurred to me. What if Heather’s air was out to? Then I would have made this trip for nothing. I quickly shoved that thought out of my head. I want to take a gulp of water but was surprised to find it all gone. Had I been drinking it this whole time not consciously thinking about it? I looked at the bottom of the jug and discovered a whole the just big enough to fit a pin through. I was going to die! I mean I was already sweating like a pig, it was just a matter of time till I passed put from dehydration. I could see her house only a few feet away - already I was beginning to feel lightheaded. I had to make it; I was so close to the door. I had to use all my might – or what little was left – to open it. I was cool but there was an unusual stench that filled the house. I walked into the living room and they were all dead. It couldn’t have been the heat – it was nice and cool. So what was it? I went to the air vent and took a good whiff. I couldn’t sell anything unusual so why where they dead. I walked over to Heather’s corpse noticing a small crumpled paper in her hand. I carefully took the paper from here hand and read it. There is carbon monoxide here – GET OUT NOW!! If you’ve been in here for more than 2 minutes your fuc- I looked at the clock. I’ve been here for five…
