The next morning, Amy woke up way earlier than usual and went onto her aim account. If she knew Anthony well enough, he was a total computer addict and would be on his computer as well. Sure enough, when she checked, the little icon next to his name blinked, telling everyone that he was online.
Amy: Hey, what’s up?Anthony: Mm…nothing much…yet. What are you doing up so early?Amy: I’m an early bird. I thought you would know that.Anthony: Well, I’m just a naïve little bitch, according to you, so no, I didn’t know that. Besides, you’re never on when I check.Amy: wait, you check to see if I’m online every freaking morning?Anthony: yeah, pretty much. Why, does that make you mad?Amy: no, actually, I’m flattered.Anthony: really, well I’m going to get changed and eat breakfast and then maybe go back on my laptop. My mom will be up pretty soon and she’ll flip if I’m still not ready.Amy: ok, I’ll see you in schoolAnthony: wait, can I pick you up?Amy: I think I’ll walk. Thanks for the offer.Anthony: you’re still mad about what happened with Jane, aren’t you?Amy paused for a while. She really didn’t want to go back to that day. She wanted to forget about what she saw Anthony and Jane doing at the mall.
Anthony: hello? Still there?Amy: yeah, sorry.Anthony: I take it you’re still madAmy: yeah, I am. Sorry, but I can’t get over itAnthony: that’s…alright with me. Amy: so I’ll see you in school.Anthony: no, I’m picking u up, like it or not.Amy: I don’t like it and I don’t want u to pick me up! Case closed!Anthony: see u in like an hourAmy: I won’t be hereAnthony: yes you will. I’ll make sure of that. Amy: I’ll see u in school and you’re not going to pick me upAnthony: Amy, you act like you don’t want ‘us’ to happen anymore.Amy: I don’t. I thought about it yesterday, but now, I don’t. I’m much happier with being single and staying single. Bye.Anthony couldn’t type anything after that. He saw the little icon by her name disappear. She’d signed off. Why did she still hate him? Finally, he picked up his cell phone and grinned an evil grin. He called the one number that would ensure that Amy would be home when he went to pick her up.
“Hello?”
“Hello, um, is this Amy’s mother?”
“Yes it is. May I ask who’s calling?”
“This is Anthony, ma’am. I would like to tell you that I’m going to pick your daughter up this morning. We agreed on it last night and I just hoped she wouldn’t forget. So would you please remind her that I will arrive at her house at around 7?”
“Oh, I’m so glad that you and Amy are getting along now.”
Anthony paused. “Yeah, so am I.” he replied simply.
“I’ll remind Amy right now. Be prompt because Amy is not exactly very patient.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll be there right on time.” He hung up and took a shower. He took his time brushing his teeth and changing. By the time he went downstairs to have breakfast, it was already 6:30. He still had half an hour. He could eat breakfast slowly.
Before he knew it, it was already 6:50. It was at least a ten minute walk to her house and he hurried to get ready. At 6:58 he was at Amy’s house. He rang the doorbell and waited. He wasn’t exactly surprised to see Amy’s mom answer the door. He smiled sweetly and said, “Hello, ma’am. Is Amy ready?”
“Yes, she is. She’s been ready for a while. She was ready to leave half an hour ago.”
“That’s good. Well, is she ready to leave?”
“Yes, just let me go get her.” She left for a while and he heard her calling Amy and he hear Amy groan. When Amy appeared, he couldn’t help but just stare. Amy looked absolutely gorgeous. But when he met her eyes, he looked away quickly. He didn’t want to look at the rage and anger and pain in her eyes. “Good morning, Amy.” He mumbled, avoiding her eyes.
“Hi.” Amy replied, and she went outside. When they were out of her mom’s sight, Amy snapped. “What do you think you’re doing?!” she demanded. “I said that I didn’t want you to pick me up!”
“Well, I thought this would be a good time to apologize.”
Amy stopped walking and turned to face him. “Look, I’m tired of you telling me you’re sorry. Fine, I get it. You’re sorry. But there’s no way that I can forgive you for what you did to me. What have I done to you that was so bad that you had to go and make out with Jane?”
“Nothing, Amy. That’s the problem. You didn’t do anything wrong. I feel so guilty. I feel like I’m the worst possible guy to walk this earth.”
“You are! Just take a look at what you’ve done to hurt me! I can’t believe you think that I’m going to forgive you!”
“Amy, I’m sorry. I love you, and I don’t care what you want to believe.”
“I can walk to school from here.”
“I’m going to school, too, you know. We’ll have to walk together.”
“Fine, then I’ll just turn back and ask my mom to drive me.”
“You’ll be late.”
“I don’t care. Anything’s better than walking with you!”
“Amy, listen to me.” Anthony said, grabbing her by her shoulders. “I love you. Nothing can change that fact. There’s no possible way that I’m just going to get over you and find another girl.”
“Let go of me!” Amy squirmed under his grip.
Then another voice added to their conversation. “Why, hello, guys.” Both of them turned around and saw Jane. She was dressed like a slut. Her shirt was seriously low cut and her shorts were extremely short. “Hey, Anthony. How are you, baby?” she said seductively, walking over to him and giving him a kiss on the cheek.
Amy walked away, happy for the interruption. Anthony tried to tell her to come back, but Jane had already started to kiss his lips. Finally he gave in. He liked Jane’s kisses. They were soft and warm, and they were a bit irresistible. For a while he completely forgot about Amy.
When Anthony walked into the school, he was alone. Jane didn’t go to this school. He walked down the hall and met his friends. But he was distracted. He wasn’t completely into the conversation. He kept scanning the crowd for Amy.
“Hey, you seem so out of it. Are you ok?” Dan asked when he noticed.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Listen, I’m going to go now. I-I want to meet somebody somewhere else.” Anthony excused himself and walked down the hall where Amy usually was. He saw her, and he couldn’t help but feel a bit of jealousy. She was with a bunch of friends, both guy and girl friends. They were laughing about some joke. He saw one of the guys give her just a friendly hug around her shoulders. He knew that they were just friends and nothing more. But still, when he saw that hug, he was jealous. One of her friends met his eyes and nudged Amy, whispering something to her. Amy looked around and met his eyes. She looked away quickly and said something to her friend. All her friends left, including Amy. He noticed that Amy was walking alone. He hurried to catch up.
“Hey, how are you?” he asked in a friendly way.
“Fine, thank you.” She replied shortly.
“Good, what class are you going to?”
“That’s none of your business. Go away.” She replied, and then she walked faster and turned to one of the busiest and most crowded hallways.
“Amy, stop! Don’t do this! I really want to talk to you alone!” he tried calling after her. He managed to wrap his fingers firmly around her backpack and follow her. He didn’t know why, but suddenly he was mad. He was mad at himself for not being a better man. He was mad at Amy a little bit for not forgiving her. He was mad at the world for not making things just a little easier for him. When the hallway cleared up and almost nobody was around, he slammed her into a locker.
“WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM????” He screamed.
“What is yours?” she said back.
“You’re the most insensitive, little bitch ever!!”
“Whatever! I don’t care what you think of me! I really don’t care what you say to me, either! I just want you to leave me alone!”
“I’m not going to leave you alone until you fuckin’ forgive me!!”
“I’m not going to, so will you stop acting like a psycho bitch and stop stalking me?”
“I hate you, Amy, I honestly do!”
“Well, if you hated me so much, why do you insist on following me and apologizing pointlessly?”
“Because I still care for you. I hate you, but I can’t shake off the weird feeling of liking for you!”
“Would you make up your mind? Do you hate me or like me?”
Anthony looked at her for a while. Suddenly, he pulled her against him and kissed her over and over. “Hate you.” He replied firmly, and threw her against a locker and watch her fall.
“I hate you more than you hate me.” She growled, and then she fell on her back and her eyes closed.
“Amy!!!” Anthony yelled. He went to her side immediately and bent over her. “Amy, I’m sorry for telling you I hate you!!” he said loudly, hoping she would hear him. Then he added softly, “But whatever you do, please don’t tell me that you meant what you just said.” He was close to tears. He didn’t want this to happen. Maybe Amy would be better off if he didn’t walk into her life. He knelt beside her and cried.Comments
