Julie got to the mall faster than Amy had expected. They both got out of the car and went inside. They walked into the first shop together, but found nothing of their taste. After about 2 hours of shopping, both girls had at least 5 shopping bags filled to the top with clothes, shoes, and a few other things that girls like to have. They were laughing and talking at the same time, so for a while, Amy’s mind was occupied. She momentarily forgot about Anthony, forgot about Jane, and totally forgot about her problems. That was the way it was with Julie. There was no depression or sadness around her, and that affected the people hanging out with her.
“So you want to go grab something to eat before we go?”
“Yeah, but I want to go see what’s new in Forever 21 first. They’ve got the nicest clothes, and I want to see if they’ve come up with anything else yet.”
“You aren’t satisfied with all those clothes you already bought?”
“Hey, like half of it is going to be for my mom and a bit of it is going to be for Suzy at her birthday party. Then everything else is just the bulky stuff, like the shoes.”
“Ok, then. I’ll meet you at the food court. Don’t later than an hour. I can’t wait that long, and besides, I need to get the car back to my mom before she flips out.”
“Sure, I probably won’t take that long. I was here just last week. I just want to see what’s new or if there’s any article of clothing I just missed.”
“Alright, then. See ya later.”
Amy and Julie went in two different directions. Amy was on her way to Forever 21 and passed by a nail salon. “I’ve gotta remind Julie to go there. They’ve got the BEST styles ever!” she thought to herself. Then, just a few feet away from Forever 21, she saw Anthony. She was surprised at first, but anger and horror replaced the surprise. He was with Jane, and she was backed against the wall, with Anthony leaning on top of her. They were making out, ignoring whatever was going on around them. She saw a few people staring at them and snickering, and some people looking at them in disgust. But they were paying no attention. Apparently their attention was on each other and sucking lip.
“Hey, Anthony.” Amy greeted harshly.
Anthony looked up with surprise and, like Amy, horror replace the surprise. He didn’t mean to have Amy see what he was doing.
“Uh…hey, Amy.” He greeted awkwardly.
“What’s up?” Amy’s words were polite, but her tone and expression said otherwise.
“Um…I just thought we’d hang at the mall.” He avoided meeting Amy’s eyes.
Jane interrupted. “Amy, didn’t you know? Anthony figured you were pissed off at him, so he thought that by leaving him with me, you were giving him permission to see other people. He thought that you were dumping him. So he was quick to ask me out, and I guess our relationship went faster than expected. That’s why you saw us making out. I thought you would know.” Her tone was sweet, but Amy could see the evil in her eyes. She leaned into Anthony more and wrapped her arms around his waist and leaned her head against his chest.
Anthony gave Amy an apologetic look, pleading with his eyes for her to forgive him. He didn’t know what he was thinking. Why did he have to be so stupid and give in to Jane? He tried getting Amy to sympathize with him, but he couldn’t. Amy turned away with tears in her eyes.
“Amy, wait.” Anthony called weakly.
Jane touched a finger to his lips. “She’s not going to take you back. It’s ok. Just forget about her. It’ll be so much easier to let go of her.” She whispered.
“No, I don’t want to forget about her. I want her to be in my mind forever. I want to see her forever. I want her to be my girl.”
“Too late. I’m your girl now.”
“Not if I can do anything about it.”
“Excuse me?”
“I’m tired of you taking advantage of me all the time. Amy was right. All you are is the school’s biggest slut. You don’t know the first thing about true love. Your definition of love is sleeping with guys, then breaking up with them the next day, unless you want to sleep with them again. Trust me, I know a slut when I see one.”
“I’m am so not a slut! I just like to show my body more than most girls.”
“So you’re saying you didn’t know that Amy was the girl of my dreams? You’re telling me that you didn’t know that I loved Amy a lot, and that you didn’t see that Amy liked me back?”
“I did, but…”
“But nothing. I can’t believe you. That’s what sluts do. They steal guys from other girls or they sleep with guys going out with good girls. They do things like you.”
“I was just jealous that Amy had such a hot guy all to herself. I wanted some of that.”
“You big fat liar. You just wanted my virginity, like all sluts.”
Jane backed away from Anthony, hardly believing what she was hearing. Anthony walked away from her, and didn’t take one look back.
