A Perfect Match 33

Romance Created on 3-12-08 Views(49) Story Rating G

Anthony wanted to do something. His brain was telling him to do something. He knew that Jane would just spoil everything. Why, oh why, did he have to agree to allow Jane to tag along?? It was all his fault. He wished he could just give Jane a good punch in the face, maybe give her a black eye, maybe a bloody nose. But he lived by morals; he would never punch or hit a girl, and sadly, Jane was a girl, though she was a real jackass.

“Leave her alone, Jane. She’s sleeping.”

“That’s ok. I’m not weak. I’ll just give her a lift to the back. No problem for me, really.”

Anthony groaned. This wasn’t going the way he wanted it to. “No way. You’re going to the back. She stays in the front. I don’t care if you like it or not. Now hurry up and move or else I’m going to floor it and leave you behind.”

Jane pouted for a moment, and stayed quiet for a while. Then she slammed the door shut, waking Amy up. Amy sat up straight quickly, startled by the noise. She looked at Anthony in a confused way, but he was looking straight ahead, too embarrassed by the whole situation to even look at her. She looked behind her and saw Jane sitting there, a somewhat smug smile on her face.

She turned back to Anthony. “What is the meaning of this?” She demanded.

“She wanted to tag along, and since she’s a friend, I thought maybe it would be ok.”

“Wasn’t she the same girl who annoyed the hell out of you at Sunset? Anthony, I want the truth, nothing less.”

“Amy, just listen to me. She wanted to tag along. That’s all. She’s a friend, and I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t be any bother to us. After all, the more the merrier.”

“You know, I just forgot that Julie was supposed to give me a ride. I’m going to see if that’s still ok with her.” Amy took out her phone and text Julie. In a few seconds, good news came for Amy.

“Alright!! Julie can come here and pick me up!! Now we can shop all day, without any disturbance.” She added the last sentence with a sharp glance at Anthony. Anthony looked away quickly, but said, “This is so unreasonable. I just invite one extra person and then you flip out.”

“I’m not flipping out, Anthony. I simply want to go to the mall right away.”

“You told me you didn’t mind doing some chores for my mom first!!”

“Well, people have the tendency to change their minds, if you haven’t noticed. I’ve definitely noticed you constantly changing your mind, so I have a right to change my mind as well.”

Without saying another word, Amy just got out of the truck and closed the door behind her. She heard a door open and close behind her and turned around. Anthony was hurrying towards her, a concerned and somewhat worried expression on his face.

“What?” She asked with irritation in her voice.

“Please don’t go. Jane just popped up out of nowhere and basically forced me to let her tag along.”

“Anthony, I would believe you if she wasn’t one of the most popular girls who has a reputation of being ‘hot’ and ‘sexy’. I don’t exactly believe that you just want her to ‘tag’ along or that she ‘forced’ you to allow her to come along. Do you have any gut? Why didn’t you just say no, floor it, and try to get her lost?”

“It’s not like that, Amy. You know that the one and only person that I love more than anyone or anything else is you. I thought you would know that better than anyone. You’re the last person I would expect to say what you’re saying is you. I can’t believe it. I don’t fall for slutty girls like Jane. She isn’t even my type. I would never fall for her, never in a million years. You have to believe me when I say that, Amy. I swear on my life I’m telling the truth, and let me tell you right now, I’ve got a pretty good life that I don’t want to lose.”

Just then, Jane stuck her head out of the passenger window and cleared her throat loudly and purposely. Anthony gave her a quick glance and held a finger in the air, telling her to just wait a second. Amy just sighed with exasperation.

“Amy, come on. We’ll go to the mall right after I drop off the groceries for my mom.”

“You two have fun. Julie’s car is just in the distance. I can see it. I’m a shopoholic, if you know what I mean. I wouldn’t want to eat up any of your time. See ya around, Anthony.” Amy said coolly, backing away from Anthony, but not missing the satisfied smile she saw on Jane’s face.

“But Amy…” he was too late. Amy had already gotten into Julie’s car, and there was nothing he could do about it. He watched as the red Toyota pulled out of the parking lot and onto the highway. Jane interrupted his imagination. “Anthony, come on!! We could go to the mall, too, you know. Then you can talk to Amy while I shop for my clothes.”

Anthony liked that idea. For the first time, he actually liked Jane’s thinking. “Yeah, sure. Good idea, Jane. First I’ll get some groceries for my mom.”

“Sure, that’s not a problem with me.” Jane replied sweetly. She leaned her head against the back of the seat and rolled her window halfway down so that the wind blew in her face and her hair waved slightly in the breeze. Anthony looked at her and for a quick second, he thought she looked…well, sexy. Then he focused on the road and shook that thought away. He couldn’t be looking at other girls now. He had to keep Amy, no matter what the cost was. He avoided looking at Jane for the rest of the ride so that he wouldn’t be tempted to do the wrong things with her and maybe accidentally say the wrong things as well.

Julie blasted the music and bopped her head in time to the music. “So how’s it been with you and that Anthony?” she asked over the music.

“Not bad.” Amy shouted back.

“Problems come up yet?”

Amy adjusted the volume so she could talk normally. “No, but he’s starting to be a real jackass.”

“Hey, guys always are jackasses. That’s why girls are so much smarter!” Amy and Julie laughed and gave each other a high five.

“True that.” Amy replied, then sighed. She had begun to like Anthony. She would have liked to go out with him and be his girlfriend, but he had just ruined everything halfway. He couldn’t treat her like a toy. It was annoying. Maybe Julie was right. Maybe Anthony would be just a jackass and nothing more.

“So what are ya planning on buying?” Julie interrupted her thoughts.

“Don’t know yet. Maybe that empire waist dress that I saw in the magazine. It looked so cute, you have no idea.”

“Oh, the white one with all the pinkish flowers all over it?”

“No, the green one with the white print.”

“Oh yeah. I know exactly which one you’re talking about. That is so cute! You’ve got good taste, girl!”

Amy smiled, turned to the window, and sighed. If only her situation with Anthony could be just as easy.
