A Perfect Match 32

Romance Created on 3-12-08 Views(51) Story Rating G

Amy got into the car. Anthony had just started the engine when his mom came out, waving a piece of paper in the air. Anthony groaned. Amy looked at him with an amused expression.

“What’s up?” She asked politely. She didn’t want to get on his bad side. He was always so annoying when he was in a bad mood. She’d figured that out when she saw him and David fight.

“I’m probably going to have to go grocery shopping for her. She’s always on my back to do chores for her because her car’s busted and at a garage. It really sucks.” He complained.

Amy nodded, suppressing a smile. For some reason, she enjoyed watching Anthony groan and complain. He was so cute when he was not in the mood to do something. “Aw…how cute! You’re doing grocery shopping for your mommy!” she teased lightly, hoping to improve his mood a bit.

It worked. Anthony looked at Amy and gave her a slight smile. “Yeah, it’s really cute. I guess you’re the grocery shopper in your house?”

“Totally.” Amy said sarcastically.

His mom got to the car. “Anthony, do you mind going to the market for me? My car’s in the garage and dad’s got the other car. Here’s the list, and be careful when you buy the sardines. I only like this brand.” She rambled on and on about what to buy and exactly what brand.

Finally Anthony sighed and blurted, “OK!! I get it, mom!! I know what to buy, alright? I’ve been doing your groceries for 2 weeks now. I would hope that I know what kind of everything to buy!!!”

His mom was quiet for a while and gave him the list. “Ok, then. I just wanted to give you a few reminders, just in case you forgot. I guess the young has better memory than those people my age. Have fun, honey. Be back by 10.”

“I will, mom. I’ll see you later, ok?”

“Alright. Don’t get into any trouble.”

“I won’t. I promise.”

“Good boy. Love ya.”

“Love you too, mom.”

Anthony backed out of the driveway and onto the street. Amy smiled and made another sarcastic comment. “Like I said, that’s so cute!” she smiled evilly.

Anthony rolled his eyes but smiled back at her. “OK, whatever. You win.” He said.

“I usually do, and considering I beat you I don’t think it’s a big deal.”

“You are SO evil!!”

“Yes, I know. Thank you.”

“And mean.”

“More complimentary.”

“You don’t mind if we stop by the grocery store first, do you? I want to get my mom’s chores out of the way before I forget. I tend to forget things easily.”

“Sure, no problem. I’ll go to the mall just down the street from the market. We’ll meet up somewhere after an hour or something. Maybe we’ll meet up at…oh, I don’t know….Sunshine Palace?”

“The name sounds so familiar. Remind me again where that is?”

“Yeah, it’s by the dollar store, next to the karate class thing.”

“Oh, right. Ok, sure. We’ll meet up there.”

“Don’t be late. Well, unless you’re looking for something that might take you about an hour or so, knowing your klutzy personality.” She teased.

“Yeah, of course.” He replied sarcastically. He drove silently, and for the rest of the ride no one spoke, but the silence wasn’t as tense as before. He was happy with the silence now, and in this situation, he was thankful for the silence. It wasn’t always fun trying to think of something to fill up the silence when they were in a fight. He prayed for the best. He couldn’t get into a fight with Amy now, not when everything was going so smoothly. As for David, he could keep his money. He didn’t want another interruption in his new relationship with Amy. Whether or not this was a smart choice he wouldn’t know till later, but as of now, he settled on being satisfied.

His smile faded when the silver Volvo pulled up alongside of his truck. He snuck a peek at Amy to see if she saw it too, but she must have been tired. She was already asleep. Thanking his lucky stars, he exhaled. Then he turned to the Volvo again and met Jane’s eyes. She smiled and waved. He returned a half hearted smile. Jane leaned over to the passenger’s side and rolled the window down, using hand signals to get Anthony to do the same. Sighing, Anthony rolled his window down.

“Can I help you?!” he demanded, not attempting to hide the irritation in his voice.

Jane only smiled innocently back. “What’s up with your attitude? Did that Amy girl piss you off or something?”

“No, no she didn’t. She was actually making me quite happy. What’s pissing me off is the fact that you’re here.” He snapped.

“Hey, it’s not my fault that you decided to hang with her when you could be kicking back and relaxing with me.”

“I’m not ‘hanging’ with her, I’m doing some stupid chores for my mom.”

“Alright, then, what’s Amy doing with you?”

“After I get the chores done, I’m going to hang out with her till like nine. Maybe go to the mall with her.”

“Whatever. Pull over at that dollar store over there. I’m going to join you two.”

“When did you get the invite? The last thing I want is to have a jerk in the car, like you.”

“I’m not a jerk, bitch. I’m a sweet innocent girl who wants to spend time with you. Anyway, that’s the story I told my mom, and that’s what my mom believed, now pull over, or I’m going to make you.”

Anthony sighed and parked in the dollar store parking lot. He waited for Jane to climb in the back, but he was surprised when the passenger’s side door opened.

“Jane, Amy’s sitting there.” Anthony protested.

Jane just waved her hand as if brushing off a fly. “I’ll just give her a boost to the back. My place is the front, so your girl’s gotta move.”
