Anthony led Amy into the playroom quickly. He didn’t want to risk another embarrassing comment by his mom. Amy laughed. “Cool mom.” She commented. Anthony rolled his eyes. “She is such an embarrassment.” He led her upstairs to the computer room. “Want to go on the computer a bit? It’s a bit boring in this house, and we usually don’t have guests. Sorry.”“Uh…yeah, sure. No problem.”“So what do you want to do?”“Go to Facebook. I want to see if Mitzy is online.”“Who’s Mitzy? A friend of yours or something?”“You know that girl who sits way in the front in math class? Like three rows from the door?”“Yeah. Melinda?”“Yeah, but she’s mad short, so you know, we just call her Mitzy. She doesn’t mind, and the nickname stuck.”“Oh. You can go on this computer. I’ll go on my computer.”Amy pressed the on button on the computer. “Sure.”For an hour everything was quiet. Only the sound of the keyboard rattling and on a few occasions music was heard in that room. Then Amy checked the time. “Anthony, it’s already half past seven. I really should get going.”“But I thought your curfew was nine!” Anthony turned to face her, his face full of surprise. “It is, but I just want to get home early. I’m tired anyways, so I’ll be able to get some rest. Don’t take it personally. I’m not trying to say that I’m trying to get rid of you as soon as I possibly can. If I wanted to get rid of you, I would have left way earlier.”“But…I thought…” Anthony was unable to finish his sentenced. He was surprised and a bit hurt. Even though Amy had just assured him that it was nothing personal, he felt that it still was. Somehow, he just felt that Amy was leaving because she was bored out of her mind. He had to get her to stay, no matter what it took. “We could go scare the hell out of Miranda. We could play video games, and maybe watch a few movies. You don’t have to go yet.” Anthony suggested anything that came to mind. He watched for any hints of her changing her mind. He found nothing. He could tell her mind was set, and usually nothing could change her mind. “Alright, you can leave. It’s your choice anyway. Let me drive you home.” He sighed and grabbed his keys off the counter. He gave Amy a quick glance and said, “Ready?” before heading out the door. He was hurt, and a bit of him was mad. If Amy was leaving just because she was bored, why didn’t she just say so? Did she think he couldn’t handle the truth?? Amy followed Anthony silently. She knew that he was hurt, and she felt bad about it. She’d just remembered that she had promised Julie that she would meet her at the mall at 8, and already she was just at the borderline of breaking that promise. She didn’t want to seem like a liar to her best friend. She wouldn’t be able to bear it. It wasn’t that bad at Anthony’s house. It was sort of fun, even though it was completely silent. He had a good taste of music, and he seemed like a nice person. She looked at Anthony before she put on her shoes, and sighed. He probably thought that she was just leaving on purpose so that she wouldn’t have to spend any more time with him. “Hey, don’t be mad, Anthony.” Amy called after Anthony. She hurried out the door and caught him just before he got into the car. “I’m not leaving because of you. I’m leaving because I already promised Julie to meet her at the mall at eight, and I’m not one to lie, so I’m already late. I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking that I’m just trying to get rid of your company. But I’m not. Julie and I have been shopping together since…well, since the beginning of time basically. You just have to understand.” Anthony was still for a while. He didn’t know how to respond. He didn’t whether or not to believe Amy. Instead, he turned around and wrapped her in a big hug. He smiled when he felt Amy hug him back. Maybe things were going to work out after all. After a while, he said, “It’s ok. I believe you. Like you said, you’re not one to lie.” Then he grinned. Amy grinned back. Thank God he had understood and believed her.
