He smiled. "I knew you would forgive me. I just knew it, just a gut feeling."
"Don't push your luck, Anthony. Just go to Sunset Diner and get this nightmare over with!" She hissed.
"Okay, okay, chill." Anthony sighed and pulled out his keys from his pocket. "Come on let's get going." he said and led the way to the car. Amy quietly followed without making too much fuss.
Anthony helped Amy into the car and got in the driver's side. As he drove the silver Volvo drove in front of him again, purposelly driving at a slow pace. He sighed and honked. He drummed his fingers along the steering wheel in impatience.
"Chill, Anthony. I don't need your impatience." Amy said, her eyes closed and head resting against the seat.
"Alright, alright. Sorry." He stopped drumming his fingers and overtook the silver Volvo at the first oppurtunity. He drove into the parking lot of Sunset Diner and waited for Amy to get out. "Promise me you will pretend that nothing ever happened."
"Fine. But if something happens during this....date" she said the word with disgust. "You will never ever get another chance."
"Sure, sure. Now you have to say whatever I say right now."
"I'm not a child, Anthony."
"Yes, I know. But just to make sure you know what I'm asking you to do."
"Fine, fine." she groaned.
"Nothing happened between me and Anthony." he said firmly, waiting for her to repeat it.
"Nothing happened between me and Anthony." She repeated after him, trying her best not to roll her eyes.
"I will not act as if I hold a grudge against Anthony because that would break the promise."
"I will not act as if I hold a grudge against Anthony because that would break the promise."
"Good. Now, let's go."
"Finally."
Anthony took her hand and walked into Sunset Diner with her. A waitress showed them to their table and brought them their menus. When the waitress came back to take their order, Anthony ordered immediately. "I would like the lasagna please."
"And you, miss?" The waitress turned to Amy.
"Just a small dish of spaghetti please."
"And soup? You have a choice of chicken noodle, tomato, and clam chowder."
"Chicken noodle." Anthony and Amy replied at the same time.
"Very good. Just wait 10 minutes for your soup." the waitress left them.
Anthony turned to face Amy. "My mom absolutely adores lasagna. As for me, I'm not exactly a big fan."
"If I can't finish, I'll remember to pack some for your mother." Amy said quietly.
"No, no. Don't. THen she'll start expecting something from you everytime we hang out together."
"Fine, whatever. How'd you do on that Bio test?"
"Really well, actually. I got an 89 on that. Thanks for your help."
"No problem. Uh...who's that girl with the green shirt? She's looking for you, I think." Amy said, looking at a girl who was looking desperately for someone, apparently Anthony.
"Who now?" He followed Amy's gaze and froze. It was Jane. She was here. Alone. No, no, no. Please. Not now. Not when I've got Amy in such a good mood. Leave me alone, Jane. Leave me alone, you goddamn bastard. Anthony thought to himself.
"Oh, Anthony! There you are! I've been looking EVERYWHERE for you!!" Jane called from across the room. Anthony groaned.
"Uh...Anthony? Who is that?" Amy asked.
"A girl I met at the movies. I talked with her a bit and now she thinks I've got a thing for her. This is seriously gonna get annoying."
"Nice." Amy smiled. "What are you gonna do when she gets here?"
"Actually, I was thinking...I was thinking I would tell her that, uh, well...."
"Spit it out, Ant."
"I was gonna tell her that you were my girlfriend. But it will be just as a lie. Just to get her away from me." He tried to make it sound as if it were nothing. "Don't hate me for it. I wouldn't do it if I didn't have your permission. You know that, don't you?"
Amy laughed. "Chill, Anthony. It's cool."
"Thanks." Just as he said that, Jane walked over to their table and scooted next to Anthony, forcing him to slide over.
"Heya, Ant. Haven't seen ya for like, ever!" she said enthusiastically.
"Uh...hi Jane." He said coolly.
"Oh, where are my manners?" Jane rolled her eyes playfully and turned to face Amy. "You must be Amy. I'm Jane, Anthony's number 1 friend!" She put her hand in between them for Amy to shake. Amy shook her hand politely.
"Nice to meet you, Jane."
