Anthony smiled and stepped back a few steps. He couldn't get too involved with Jane. At least not yet. He still had Amy to take care of. He took a deep breath.

"So how do I loo, uh, Jane?"

"Really....hot." she replied shyly.

"Cool, thanks. I have to impress my girl. She's a hottie, that's what I've got to say."

"You mean, you aren't single?" Disappointment was heavy in her voice.

Anthony looked at her curiously. "Excuse me?"

"I didn't know you were already taken!!" she was close to tears. "But of course, what did I expect. Some random hottie comes up to me to talk, and i'm thinking he's single!! what was I THINKING?!" she started bursting into tears.

Anthony was shocked, but he knew he couldn't get her too attached to him. he didn't want to be too attached to any other girl except Amy. "I'm sorry to hear that, and I'm sorry I disappointed you, but I've got a girl I've got to get back to." he said quickly. he turned to leave but Jane's screams stopped her.

"Wait!! Please! You're just gonna go and leave me here? I'm in MISERY!! can't you SEE that?! What kind of guy are you, leaving miserable girls to deal with such stress by themselves?!"

"Jane, stop it. I know what you're trying to do. I've had so many attempted guilt bombs dropped on me, I'd recognize it anywhere. I've got a girlfriend. Deal with it."

"Fine, fine. but can we at least take a walk on the beach together? you know, just you and me? Just as friends?" she pleaded.

"No, Jane. That would be too much like a date, and I am most certainly not dating you. That would be considered cheating on my girlfriend, and frankly, I'm not that type of guy."

"You won't be cheating on your girl. You'd just be taking a walk with a really good friend."

"Yeah, that's what I'll say, but do you honestly believe that my girl's gonna buy it?"

"Just explain to her, and if she's stupid enough to dump you, we could have so much more than just a good friendship."

"No. For the last time, I'M TAKEN!!" He kept the scream out of his voice.

"Fine, be that way. Your girlfriend doesn't need to know about what we do together. Just keep it a secret, don't spill the beans, and there will be nothing to worry about."

"Jane! I am not going to do anything that might..."

"Yeah, yeah. whatever. You're a jerk, even if you are a hottie." she turned around to leave. then she looked over her shoulder and looked at Anthony with menacing eyes. "I'll see you on the beach at 4 tomorrow. if you're not there, I'll have to make up a few lies to a few people." she turned back around and left the theater.

Anthony bottled his anger. great, just great. now he had a date that he didn't even want to go to. just then, Amy and the rest of the people in the theater came out.

"Anthony, I thought you said you were just in the bathroom. what took you so long?" Amy came to his side.

"Uh, I just saw an old friend of mine and stopped to chat. i guess i took longer than expected. I'm sorry."

"No problem. The school day's over. we can get something to eat and pass by the school without worrying about lapel catching us."

"Yeah, sure. Where do you want to go?"

She smiled. "I'm only gonna say what I've said so many times before."

He grinned back. "Right. Anywhere I choose." he dropped a kiss on her cheek and took her hand. "There's a real nice dinerjust down the road from Shorty's house. You up for that?"

"Anything, anything."

"Good." He kissed her cheek again, this time a bit closer to her lips.
