But he was surprised at how quickly that surprise turned to anger.

"Amy?" he half whispered.

"You don't know the first thing about real pain, Anthony."

"What?"

"The only pain you know are the ones about relationships, the ones about love. that's all. if you think that that's the definition of pain, you better look it up online or in the dictionary. you think that you can empathize with every living human being just because you experienced 'love hurts' first hand. you haven't experienced anything else firsthand, have you?"

Anthony opened his mouth to reply, but Amy continued before he could say a word.

"No, of course you haven't. you're way too 'cool' and 'popular' to know about these things. your only job is to be cool, stay cool, check out good looking girls, get goodlooking girls, hook up with your good looking girlfriends, then before they know it, they're hopelessly in love with you. then when you see yet another hot chick, you break up with that girl who's still smitten with you while they're still helplessly and unfortunately in love with you. that's your job, your life, your purpose."

Anthony did not like any one of her words. it wasn't completely a lie. he could admit some of the things she was saying were true, but not everything. this put him in a bad mood. "Oh, so you think you know it all, then? you think you're the wisest of them all? you think you can understand everyone and everything? you're the one everyone loves and counts on? you've been through so much pain that you can empathize with every unfortunate being to know and befriend you?"

"What's so 'unfortunate' about being my friend?" she demanded.

"Everything. unless they're a bitch and a stuck-up, spoiled little girl like you. then they could get along with you just fine." he spat at her.

her mouth hung open, unable to believe what Anthony was saying. "so i guess this is just some kind of set up." she said quietly.

"What?"

"If anyone who knows me is so unfortunate unless they're...a bitch, then i suppose you only wanted to come here to tell me how very bitchy i am." her voice was quiet but definite.

anthony looked at her for a bit, unsure what to say. he felt bad all over again. he didn't want to hurt her anymore. he took one look at her face and knew that  he had hurt her in all ways possible. "Amy?" he said softly, barely audibly.

"I don't want to talk to you anymore. i'm pretty sure you don't want to have anything to do with me anymore either. i'm too much of a bitch to hang with you." she muttered, then turned to leave.

"Amy, don't go. stay." he tried to sound fierce, but failed. his voice turned out to be weak.

"i'll see you in school."

"no, i can't wait two days."

"Yes you can. you'll have to."

"Talk to me on aim."

"aim is unsuitable for bitches." she said, no trace of humor in her voice or expression.

"You're not. i'm sorry i said that. i should have controlled myself. i'm probably more of a bitch than you are."

"every time we see each other this is how it turns out. i don't think i can bear it anymore."

"please Amy. don't be this way."

"bye Anthony. i'll see you in school." she repeated.

"Talk to me on aim?"

"ok."

"And Amy?"

"What?"

"I love you."

"I have a hard time believing you. i'll see you in school. or maybe online. bye." she didn't give him a chance to reply. she just left.

"I don't understand why you hate me so very much." he said aloud, although he knew she didn't hear him. he gathered his books and went home.
