Love is an Illusion

His lips were demanding against hers, but left a gentle touch she had come to love.  And then a sting at her face surprised her.  It was a slap.  He had slapped her.
"Why?" was all she could manage.
"Reasons are meaningless when everything is so empty.  When there's no reason to live, why should there be reasons for anything else?"  That strong unfaltering voice never spoke words of comfort or caring, but she couldn't help but love the man it came from.
He got up hastily and walked toward the door.
"I thought you loved me."  Her voice came out almost as a whisper.
"Love is an illusion."  The words felt as if he had slapped her again.  And with that, he left.
For an hour or so, she just sat and cried.  He had been hurtful before, but he had never hit her.  Maybe it was fate that made her stick around a man with no love for her.
But she loved him, God, did she love him.
It was just a never ending circle.  She would wait pointlessly for him to come and hold her just for the sake of holding her.  Don't be confused, he did come, but it was without feeling that he kissed and cradled her.  Then he left her with nothing but cold words and the empty hope  that next time he came, it would mean something.
She would sit and cry and then wait for him to return.  Today, she decided to break the routine.
After composing herself, she got up and left.  He never locked her in; it was her apartment anyways; but she still scarcely went anywhere.
She grabbed some shoes and walked to the coffee shop just down the street.  She sat at one of the tables and just thought.
The bell at the door sounded, and she looked to see who had come in.  It was a man, more attractive than she had ever seen in her life.  Even more than HIM...
She was feeling bold, and walked up to the man.
"Hi.  I'm Lisa.  And you are?"
"Brendon."  The words had barely left his mouth when it was covered with hers.  The kisses were feverish, and, needless to say, drew plenty of attention.
People just walking past on the street stopped to watch the display.
"I barely know you." he said, pushing her away.
"So?  That makes it more fun."
She bagain kissing him again, but stopped upon feeling an intense pain in her back.  She turned around to see HIM.
"Lisa, what the hell?" he roared.
"You said yourself: Love is an illusion."
