A Good Nightmare (ch 15)

She grabbed my face in her hands and spoke to as if I were a little child, "David and I have were so worried about you."

"I was sitting on a cliff somewhere in the-."

"Somewhere? Maybe I need to take you away from here sooner than I have planned. I mean, you went into a forest that you did not know, ran around blindly, and did not even once think of returning home."

"Well...I'm sorry Rani...I guess I wasn't thinking."

She sighed and shook her head. "Okay, but I have some good news to tell you: you are to be moved into my house Friday! Is that not wonderful?"

"It is! But why can't I just live in my own house?"

She gave a soft chuckle, "That is how all vampires live sweety, we all live together in the same place."

"Why?"

She laughed again, "Aw! You are so young! I will tell you after we have everything settled at my house. Then we will have all the time in the world to talk about such things, but for now, I must be going."

"Why?" It was the first time she had left before midnight.

"I have to get my house in order before you come, you know. You will be the first person to join my house in over 600 years. You should be grateful." And with that, she walked off into the forest before I could ask her another question.

"She's strange, isn't she?" Higerth's voice startled me. I had forgotten he was there.

"I'll have to agree with you, she is different. What did she tell you to change your...what was that word you used?...Understanding?"

"Oh, that. I can't really explain it. You of all people should know how she is." He took a deep breathe and looked in the direction Rani had left. "She's very found of you. I have never seen her so concerned about a new born in all my 300 years of being a vampire."

"Hmm...I wonder why?"

"You really need to find another word to say." I pushed him playfully and walked inside, only to be met by Higerth and David's grandfather holding a two barrel shot gun that was aimed right at me.

Higerth froze behind me and I said jokingly, "looks like your grandpa finally woke up."
