Hidden Creatures of the Night Got to get away, GOT TO GET AWAY!, I thought to myself, I must keep running!  I tripped on a log and nearly fell. Don’t stop! Got to get away!I pushed a branch out of my way.  Shrubs, twigs, and long grasses cut me as I ran with all my strength.Suddenly, my legs gave out from under me and I collapsed onto the ground.  A small voice in my head pleaded for me to get up and keep running, but my body wouldn’t respond.  I was just too tired to go any farther.Through the bone chilling silence, I heard the soft padding of feet.I scrambled to my feet. That  was close! My thoughts screamed. Get going, RUN! It’s coming!  But I couldn’t move more then a couple of feet.I strained my ears for the slightest sound and staggered in slow circles. Even though a bright, full moon was out, I couldn’t anything through the dense vegetation around me.A deafening snap of a twig came from the branches above my head.There it is, my thoughts whispered to me as I slowly tried to silently get behind a giant tree.  When I was almost all the way behind it, my foot got stuck in a root sticking out of the ground and fell loudly.It heard me fall.  It jumped to the ground and walked heavily toward me.  I screamed as I tried in vain to get my foot out.It stopped midway to me and let out an earsplitting call of triumph and joy.  It looked me straight in the eyes I froze in fear.  It leaned back on its hunches and launched itself into the air.
