When The Parents Are Away, Annie Will Play {ch.11}
|
“What do you mean she’s in a coma?” Annie shrieked at the doctor.
“Miss, please, keep your voice down!” The doctor held up his hands in a polite gesture to try and calm her down.
Annie gritted her teeth. “She can’t be in a coma. She’s only six!”
“I’m sorry miss, but that’s what has happened.” The doctor replied, lowering his hands slowly.
“Did you do anything to try and help her?!” Annie’s voice began to rise again.
“We did all we could.” The doctor took a small step back, hoping Annie didn’t see it.
************
“Well obviously it wasn’t enough!” Annie growled.
Brandon laid an arm over Annie’s shoulders. “Hon, relax please.”
Annie shrugged him off her and kept her attention on the doctor. Everything started to blur.
“If we’re lucky, she’ll come out of it within the next two weeks” The doctor started saying, moving towards the bed where Annie’s little sister lay still with wires hooked up to her. “After two weeks, the chances of her survival go down by 25% every day she’s still in the coma.”
The doctors words started to fade. Annie couldn’t concentrate anymore. Everything blacked out.

It was all foggy. Nothing but fog. She looked left, she looked right. Not a soul in sight. No one, no vision, but oh that sound! The awful sound.
So loud and annoying that even thought she clapped her hands over her ears, was still peircing.
She closed her eyes and tried to block out the sound. It was of a mix between the sound of nails on a chalk board and high-pitched squealing.
Suddenly, there was silence. She opened her eyes and she was falling. Screamed, but no sound was heard.
Falling through a vortex of swirling colours never know to man. Random shapes that looked like a stained glass window. She closed her eyes once again and the heard something. A voice from the depths of the colour. Someone calling, no screaming her name.
She tried to call out, but no sound came again. Struggling to find the voice, she felt as if she were in a different world, a different dimension almost. As if she were there, but not there all the time.
Still trying to find the voice, she began not being able to breathe. She struggled to pull in the air, only a little came in. She tried breathing out, it seemed like twice as much were going out as was coming in.
Starting to panic, She felt a jolt. No, not a jolt, a shake. Someone, or something, shook her. Again she heard her name being called out. It sound more in a state of panic that before. That voice! It sounded closer now, and so familiar, yet so vague at the same time.
Still falling through the vortex, the weightlessness feeling of falling, then another shake. A voice... calling her...

Brandon shook Annie again. “Annie! Wake up!”
Slowly, Annie moved her arm, trying to shake Brandon away. She moaned lightly, and tried opening her eyes. All she could see was white. White everywhere.
“Annie!” Brandon’s voice flooded with relief and Annie felt someone hug her. But the touch was hot and burned her skin.
“Oww!” Annie cried out and Brandon released her immediately. She blinked several times and blurred figures started to come into focus. “Where am I?” Annie asked, looking around, but not making sense of what she saw.
The doctor was at Annie’s side. “You’re in the emergency room.” The doctor said with caution, expecting Annie to jump up and strangle him.
“Wh… what happened?” Annie asked, turning her head to look at Brandon.
“You passed out again.” Annie’s mom’s voice drifted into the conversation.
Annie looked up. She was in a hospital bed next to her sisters. Her mom was sitting between the two beds, and Brandon was sitting on the edge of her bed. The doctor walked away, towards Evy, and started checking vitals. Annie frowned. “This isn’t happening.” She shook her head. “It’s not.”
She sat up, slowly. Very slowly, remembering the last time she passed out, and how it put her on her back for two days afterwards. She slid off the bed, Brandon holding her arm of course, and walked to her sister’s bed. She lightly touched her sister’s face.
“Evy… wake up. Sissy’s here.” She whispered, without any hope that her sister would wake up.
“Miss,” The doctor said. “The chance that she’s going to hear you and wake up right now is very low.”
Annie managed a half-fearsome glare at the doctor before looking back to her sister. “Evy… come on baby shark. Wake up.” Annie tried again.
The doctor sighed. “Miss…” He started again.
“Look!” Jackie gasped, watching Evy.
The doctor stopped whatever he was going to say. Everyone froze. Annie’s hand was still slightly on Evy’s face. Evy’s eyes twitched, and then opened.
“Hi sissy!” Evy said with a small, sleep-filled smile.
Annie felt her face streak with hot tears and hand to burry her face against Brandon. She’s awake! Annie’s voice celebrated. She’s going to be okay!
