            “Robert! Slow down!” Annie’s mom, Jackie, yelled at Robert. He was driving, but way too fast. Road rage, once again, had taken over his one-track mind, and Robert was speeding 25 miles over the speed limit, tail gating someone and cursing the guy. The man driving in front of them kept tapping his breaks, trying to get Annie’s dad to back off, but he was relentless.

            “Daddy!” Evy said quietly. “Slow down.”

            He didn’t hear her, he punched the gas break, passing the guy while cutting the space between him and the on-coming truck very short. The truck blew his horn at Robert, and he flipped the truck off.

            Oh Lord, help us please! Jackie prayed, making sure Evy’s seatbelt was tight, and as well her own. She tried again. “Robert! Calm down!” He didn’t hear her.

            Cutting back closely in front of the guy he was just tailgating, Robert slammed on the breaks. Hearing the car behind him squeal his own breaks, Robert glanced in the side-view mirror and saw the guy swerve into the on-coming lane to avoid hitting Robert. The truck that was in the on-coming lane slammed into the car, and spun around five times. The car behind Robert spun around, fish-tailing and slamming into the back of the van Robert was driving. He then lost control of the van, and swerved into the ditch, flipping the van onto its passenger side.

            Evy screamed, and so did Jackie. Robert just cussed loudly, and undid his seatbelt as soon as the van stopped moving. Not even paying attention to his wife or crying daughter, Robert crawled to the back of the van and jumped out the back doors, which had blown open when they hit the other side of the ditch. He looked back and saw the other vehicles not far down the road. He picked up the closest thing near him and stalked towards the cars.

            “Yes, we’re out on old I-37” The driver of the car Robert had been tail-gating said into his cell phone. “Thompson.” He gave the operator his last name. “Thank you.” He said and hung up. He turned to the other driver, who was pacing back and forth near him.

            “Well?” Asked the truck driver.

            “They’re sending out police and an ambulance.” Said Mr. Thompson.. He turned and saw Robert coming towards him. “Oh shit!” He ducked just as Robert threw what he’d picked up, which happened to be a hammer, at the guy.

            “What the hell’s wrong with you?!” Shouted the truck driver, helping up Mr. Thompson.

            “Shut the fuck up!” Robert yelled at the truck driver. “It’s your fucking fault I went into the goddam ditch!”

            Mr. Thompson and the truck driver exchanged scared glances, and looked back at Robert, who continued walking towards them.

            “Mommy!” Evy cried. “My head hurts!”

            Jackie unbuckled herself and landed carefully on the roof of the van. “It’s okay baby. I’ve got you.” Jackie grabbed a hold of Evy carefully and unbuckled her little girl. “Hold onto me tightly.”

            Evy squeezed her mom’s neck and wept into her shoulder. Jackie carefully climbed out of the back of the van and sat down on the gravel road-side. She wiped Evy’s hair from her eyes, and inspected her daughter, to make sure there wasn’t any cuts or any blood. “How do you feel?” Jackie asked.

            “My head hurts.” Evy said through tears.

            “Did you hit it?” Jackie asked, concerned.

            “No.”

            “Are you sure?”

            “Yes.” Evy wiped tears on her shirt sleeve. “Mommy…” Evy paused, listening. “I hear the ambleeance!” She said, in her cute way of saying Ambulance.

            “Yes, I hear it too baby. They’re coming to make sure we’re okay.” She said, hugging her daughter again. When she looked up to her husband, she cried out.

            “Robert! Stop!” Jackie shouted, jumping up and releasing Evy.

            “What?” Evy asked, turning around.

            Robert had a hold of one of the drivers and was shaking the guy. “You son-of-a-bitch!” Robert was saying, shaking the guy furiously.

            “Let go of me!” Mr. Thompson was shouting. “I didn’t do anything!”

            “Bull fucking shit!” Robert said in reply.

            “Let him go!” The truck driver shouted, rushing towards Robert, and grabbing a hold of Robert’s sleeve, trying to yank him off Mr. Thompson.

            “Don’t touch me ass-hole!” Robert said, turning and punching the guy, sending him back onto the pavement.

            A couple cars had stopped by now, un able to get around any way since both cars were totaled in the middle of each lane, and they were in the middle of farm land. No off-roads for two miles either direction. Jackie looked at the cars momentarily, and saw that most of them were on cell phones.

            “Daddy! Stop!” Evy shouted, running after her mom.

            “Evy, stay back!” Jackie warned, grabbing her daughters’ shoulder and holding her from getting any closer.

            “Why?”

            “I don’t want you getting hurt!”

            “Daddy won’t hurt me!” Evy pulled against her mom’s grasp.

            “We don’t know that!” Jackie said, holding onto Evy’s arm.
