Orphan Luck [ch.5]
|
Susan re-plugged the drain and started filling more water into the tub.
“Okay, now we rinse your hair out.”
She grabbed the cup and I plugged my nose and closed my eyes. I felt almost helpless while she rinsed my hair. I felt as though I were a bourdon to her because I couldn’t do this myself.
Once she finished, I spoke up. “I’m sorry for this.”
“For what?”
“What your doing.” I said, I looked up at her. “I feel as though I’m a bourdon to you.”
“Nonsense! We’ve done this a million times before.” Susan smiled and pulled the plug once again.
She turned on the faucet, but didn’t plug the drain again.
“Stand up.” She filled the cup from the faucet and turned to me.
I stood up and she poured water on me, rinsing away all the bubbles and soap.
“Turn around.”
So I did. She rinsed off my back. Then she turned off the faucet.
“Okay, time to dry off.” She pulled out a huge towel and wrapped it around me.
She picked me up and set me down on the floor. I was in shock. No one had actually picked me up before.
“Okay, you dry off and I will brush your beautiful hair.” She pulled out a brush and began carefully brushing it.
I dried off, then stood in the towel as she brushed and brushed.
After what seemed like ten minutes, she final breathed a sigh of relief.
“There, done.” She walked in front of me and looked at me. “And you look positively beautiful!”
I blushed. No one, besides my mom when I was little, had ever said that to me before. A tear came to my eye.
“What’s wrong dear?” Susan stepped forward and hugged me.
“It’s just that no one has been this nice to me since my mom when I was four. Well, and before my dad killed her.” I said and hugged her.
“Oh dear Kwanii, I’m so sorry to hear that.” Susan looked down at me. “Did you run away?”
“No, my dad beat me and threw me out one rainy night when I was six.”
“Well, no one is throwing you out here. You’re going to stay here and live with us.” Susan smiled.
“Are you serious?” I asked in utter amazement.
“Yes I am.” She wiped a tear from my face. “Now, you get dressed and I’ll clean the rest of the soap from the tub.”
I did as she said. I pulled on the under panties, they fit perfect. Then I pulled on the pants and shirt. The pants fit nicely and the shirt was a little big, but it didn’t matter. I was in new clothes. I liked not being in the same ones.
Susan stood up after a minute or two. “There, all gone!” She turned and looked at me.
“What shall I do with my old clothes and blanket?”
“Do you wish to keep them?”
“Not really, they’re all tattered.” I said.
“Then we shall throw them out.” With that, she opened the trash can lid and set them inside. She closed the lid and turned back to me. “Now then, shall we go see if there’s something you would like to eat?”
I hadn’t even thought about food. At that thought, I felt starved. Well, I really was starved. “Oh please. I don’t think I’ve eaten in a few days.”
“Well, we can’t let that happen now, you come and we’ll cook you something.” Susan put her arm around me and led me back into the hall.
The hall felt cooler than the bathroom did. That was probably because Susan had used hot water. We walked down the stairs and into the kitchen.
There was a woman in a cute black and white dress, who turned around as we walked in.
“Oh, who’s this one today madam?” She asked.
“This is Kwanii.” Susan answered.
The maid bowed and smiled at me. “What would you like to eat my dear?”
“I really have no clue.” I answered. I had no clue what anything was called.
Susan spoke up. “How about some chicken soup for the dear. That always seems to relax them.”
“Of course madam. Right away.” With that, she turned and started getting things to cook chicken soup.
“Kwanii, would you like to go sit in the den and watch something?”
“Watch what?” I was confused.
“Television.”
“Uh, I’m sorry, but I don’t know what that is.” I replied. I was at a loss. I had no clue what so ever.
“Well, we can see what’s on.” Susan led me down the hall and into a room that was lower. We had to step two steps down to get into it.
Right away I spotted Martin. He was laying on what looked like a fold-up bed and had some kind of thing in his hand. He looked up and smiled.
“Hey Kwanii. Wanna come play?” He sat up and patted the cushion next to him.
Susan pushed my back gently. “Go ahead. He’ll show you what to do.”
I slowly walked toward him. I looked at what he was watching. It was a TV, but it wasn’t moving.
“Come, sit.” Martin smiled. He took my arm and helped me onto the cushion.
I looked back to the doorway, but Susan was gone. So I looked back to Martin.
“I’m playing a video game. If you want, I can show you how to play.” He smiled and scooted closer to me.Comments
