                                Chapter 5

The kiss lasted for what seemed like forever. Jesse lightly pulled his lips away, but neither of us opened our eyes. He leaned his head beside my ear and whispered.
“You’ve blown me away. I haven’t ever felt this way before… I love you, Sarah. I love you.” He whispered.
“I love you too, Jesse.” Then we both kept on with our walk, hand in hand.
The walk lasted for about an hour, but it seemed like a lifetime. Throughout the entire walk, we spilled deep, personal secrets about ourselves that no one else besides us knew.
“I can’t believe you went through that torture.” Jesse said in shock.
“I haven’t been the same ever since that started. I’ve been beaten a lot. I even have the bruises.”
“Can I see some?” I lifted up the back of my shirt; there was an extremely large bruise.
“That’s not the only one.” I lifted up my sleeve, revealing the darkest one. It was dark purple, dark grey, and black. I put it back down and rolled up my pants leg to my thigh.
“Oh…my…gosh! That one looks like it really hurt!”
“Yea, the rest of them I can’t show anyone.” We took each other’s hands and walked until we were back at the house.
“Maybe we can still go in. Just in case, let’s take off our shoes and keep them out here on the porch.” So we took them off and put them side by side then went inside barefoot.
“Well? Just where have y’all been?” Bobby asked sternly.
“We went on a walk.” Jesse explained.
“Well you two need to get cleaned up.” Then we went into our separate bathrooms and showered. Dinner was passed for Jesse and me because it was so late. We were happy because we didn’t have to wake up early to work tomorrow. As I left the bathroom, Jesse and I chatted for a while.
“Tomorrow, I’m going somewhere with my friend Candice.”
“Uh, hey. I have, or had, a best friend named Candice. Candice Blakely.”
“That’s her last name! Wow, that’s cool that we’re both friends with her.” Jesse said.
“I know! What time will you be back?”
“Late. Not sure exactly what time, but late. So don’t wait up for me.”
“Uh, okay. I was just wondering. I’m tired so I think I’ll go hit the hay.” I got up from the couch and hugged Jesse.
     “Good night.” I said.
“Nighty night.” Then I crawled into bed down the hall and fell asleep.
