I pointed at the trade post, which, when we got closer, was the registration for camping in the area… ‘why do we have to stop here?’ I was looking at the map of the trail that lead to the top of the volcano. ‘because, they could still be on the trail here. You never know where scott could be.’ ‘well do we have to walk?’ ‘no but we have to stay low to the ground’ ‘grr. Fine. I’ll walk’ ‘ok then…… ok lets go.’ I pointed in the direction of a narrow road. I walked In front and nix stayed behind me a few feet. It was a relatively flat hike until we met all the trees on the trail. The inner forest trail was bumpy and I almost tripped a few times cause of stupid tree roots sticking out of the ground. Nix kept having to walk around trees and rocks because she wouldn‘t jump over them because she didn‘t know what was on the other side, which was smart but time consuming. Maybe after an hour, I saw someone in the trees about 600 yards away. I pointed and nix ran to catch up with me. ‘I think I heard them up ahead’ ‘maybe, or maybe your just hearing things’ ‘your just jealous that the voices are talking to me and not you’ nix giggled and I laughed.We moved forward through the forest. The flashes of green were making me a bit dizzy. Every few minutes I would look around and realize I was alone. I waited and saw nix coming up panting heavy toward me. ‘flying….is much….less tiring.’ I was out of breathe but not as much as much as she was. I’m more used to going long distances on foot. Me and rob always went long distances running. We once ran about 12 miles in under an hour. I think I collapsed when we hit thirteen miles. He kept on running. He keeps going and going and going and man he’s fast. Like a Duracell ultra battery with reserve power and working on overdrive, powering a train, alone. I looked back at nix. ‘you know I can do something to help you’ ‘are you going to carry me?’ ‘no.’ ‘then what is it?’ ‘I’m going to make the land flat. makes it easier to walk.’ ‘what??’ I looked ahead of me and concentrated like I remembered I did with the dragon. I raised my hands and the forest and land ahead of us lifted fifty feet in the air. ‘if you could do that the whole time then how come you made me walk?’ ‘its good exercise’ ‘I don’t need exercise.’ ‘I never said you had to.’ I smiled and stuck my tongue out. She did the same. We laughed and walked on. Every time the land changed back to forest I put the land I lifted behind us down. Then I lifted the forest ahead of us with my new psychic powers. After about four times of lifting and dropping and lifting, we finally saw the volcano. ‘it looks like someone tried to dig some ice cream out of an ice cream bowl’ ‘really? It blew up on one side. Its supposed to look like a crater’ she looked at me with an expression I knew meant ‘I hate sarcasm’ I held back my laugh and pointed at a small trail at the foot of the volcano. She looked at the trail and then back at me. ‘can you make that flatter too?’ ‘why we can just fly to the top’ she smacked her forehead. I held back another laugh and pointed up. She looked up and saw what I saw. Scott was up there waving at us. He motioned for us to come up. Nix looked at me and said something I didn’t think she would say. ‘I’ll race you.’ ‘your on.’ I ran up the mountain trail and looked back up at nix. She was already halfway up in the air. I ran faster taking about 20 foot strides. I saw a rock and had an idea. I didn’t think I could do it but I did. I jumped on top of the rock and thought as hard as I could on the rock. The rock lifted underneath me. I smiled and concentrated to make the rock move high. It worked. I shot up fast into the air and caught up with nix. I waved at her and she looked at me with her jaw dropped. I waved again and pointed forward, the rock moved forward slightly faster than nix could. But she caught up fast. We were neck to neck and we were only a few hundred yards away. A few hundred feet. 200 feet. 100 feet. I tried to slow down to land without falling forward. 20 feet. The rock stopped on the floor of the mouth of the volcano but as I stepped onto the ground nix feet touched the ground at the same time. ‘damn…. it’s a tie.’ ‘no I was here first’ ‘yup and so was my rock’ ‘so the rock won?’ ‘yeah we got beat by a rock. Real pleasing’ ‘are you two going to act like two little idiots or some over here and say hi to me?’ scott’s girlfriend, Courtney was waving at us. ‘flying is more comfortable than walking’ nix looked at me with an ‘I told you so’ look and smiled. I put my arm around her and we walked forward, toward scott and Courtney. ‘so bro, how is it going?’ ‘its been good’ ‘now why did you want me to come here again? You didn’t explain it in the postcard’ ‘well you should have figured it out. After all, you did realize that I wouldn’t send you a postcard unless I was drunk or something.’ ‘or something…’ ‘hey!’ ‘hehe’ nix smacked her forehead ‘oh my god. Your such a pervert’ I looked at nix ‘but you love me for it’ ‘yeah sort of…hehe’ ‘umm hello. We’re right here.’ I was about to kiss nix and then looked up at scott and Courtney looking at us. Me and nix looked at each other and whispered to each other ‘damn it’ we looked back at the other two and just stared at them. ‘so are you going to tell us what you want?’ ‘I want to know something’ ‘well then ask it’ ‘…..I want to know how to have a good relationship’ nix smacked her forehead again and I rolled my eyes. ‘that was probably the most gay thing you’ve ever said.’ ‘be quiet I’m serious. I want to know how you guys can keep going after all those troubles you’ve had’ I looked at nix and she just shrugged. ‘maybe…forgiveness and….umm we love each other…. Relationship qualities.’ I was waving my hand the entire time. Nix was copying me and nodding her head. ‘we have that stuff but we still fight a lot’ ‘me and nix have fought’ ‘not as much as we do’ ‘so? A fight brings you closer together’ ‘how does it do that?’ ‘I don’t know scott think with your own head for once’ ‘umm I don’t know. I’m serious’ ‘when you make up over a fight, it brings you closer together. You forgive each other and you hold each other tighter. Ever had that feeling?’ ‘well yes but it doesn’t last’ ‘I don’t know bro but your going to have to work that out yourself’ ‘can’t you guys help at least a bit?’ I looked at nix. She shrugged her shoulders again. ‘well tell us what your problem is’ ‘well it starts out like this….’ me and nix listened and talked to scott and Court for about three hours. I noticed the rock scott and Courtney sat on. It was obsidian but it was weird. Whenever they moved around on it they pressed it down a bit more into the ground. I tried ignoring it. By the time we were almost done talking, I was crying, scott was crying, nix was crying, Court was crying, and the volcano was coughing, ….. The volcano was coughing?? Oh crap…
