hehehehehehe the morning

I woke up to the sound of birds chirping and my alarm clock telling me to wake up. My eyes crept open slowly because I don’t like mornings but I get up at 5:30 am just to go to work. I took off my clothes and got a shower. I came out and started looking for my casual dress. A tank and some jeans or a shirt and some shorts. I chose a tank and some jeans. I was putting on my speedo shoes when I realized that my room was a mess! I couldn’t tell where all my stuff was.

“note to self: clean room.” I thought to myself. Of course I only remember half of what usually tell myself. If I do remember, I usually forgot something else because I’m not a morning person. I woke up my grandpa. He’s basically my dad now but I like referring to him as my grandpa. He woke up and gave me the look as if I woke him on a Saturday. I showed him my watch and he immediately jumped up and rushed for his clothes. He would be late for work if he didn’t hurry too. Finally we stepped in the El Camino, which is my uncle’s little pick up car, and drove to Sunnyside, where the china grove is. We were driving and driving down Beam Rd along the orchards. We got to the intersection and went left as always. I was finally waking up at about 6:25 am, right before entering Sunnyside. I had forgotten breakfast this morning and my stomach grumbled at me.

“note to self: make a breakfast for my self.”

We had finally gotten to the china grove which is just a 8 minute drive from our house. I stepped out of my grandpa’s car and walked thru the door. It was 6:29. I was right on time and my boss Louie knew it. He always had a smile on his face. So did the counter girl Kitten. Everyone there is nice to me just because I’m the only underage chef. I walked to the kitchen and said morning to Cho and Mark the waiters. They waved and smiled back. I finally opened the door to the kitchen, it’s a long hall to there trust me, and it was 6:30 right then. I am almost always perfect. Joanna, the head morning chef, smiled and pointed for me to get started on some morning fried rice. I put on the apron and tied it behind me. I put on my lucky hat, which I usually take with me everywhere, and slid it on backwards or, to the other chefs, working mode. I was there gently tossing the rice and adding sprinkles of salt, when Louie walked in to say hi. He always checks the restaurant’s progress every hour. It makes it comforting for me to see him doing that. We hadn’t served our first meal till 6:40 so it was going to be a slow day or one with lots of fun. Louie added in the joke not to burn the steak today. I laughed cause I never get to cook the steak. I’ve only been working three months there so I’m not professional enough. Course I only work the morning shift so it didn’t bother me.

Robert, the other waitress and the only Mexican, came in late as usual, but for some reason he always get here right before the first order, which isn’t a sign of punctuality but Louie doesn’t mind. The day went by fast as usual with not many breakfasts but always customers and everyone in the kitchen making food for themselves during their break.

By 8:00 I had been there 2 and half hours and was on my break eating my breakfast. Pancakes with maple syrup and a chocolate smiley face with whipped cream eyes and nose. I’m the only chef in the restaurant who knows how to make the smile look good cause I’m a kid and kids know what they want to look at when they eat it. I had fulfilled one promise, I was still worried about my room while making some sausages. Joanna surprised me though when she asked how I was doing.

‘I’m fine, miss’ ‘ u don’t look fine u seem scared’ ‘ well u crept on me and scared me silly.’ ‘well sorry just wanted to know how you’re doing’ ‘ I’m fine, miss. Thanks for wondering’ ‘what are u doing today’ ‘I’m going to get a haircut. Why?’ ‘Well I was just wondering. Why do u need a haircut? Your hair looks fine to me.’ ‘My dad is making me get one so I have to.’

I know she was trying to make friendly conversation with me but it seemed weird because usually she doesn’t talk to anyone in the kitchen. She’s always criticizing someone’s cooking or making hers better. She finally told me what she was wanting to ask me.

‘You have any plans afterward?’ ‘I don’t think I do.’ ‘do you think you could come to my place and show m how to make these delicious pancakes. I seriously don’t know how u make them so good’ ‘ its just natural talent’ I told her. I laughed at that and so did she. ‘so what do u say at about 4:00?’ ‘ok’

I felt kind of weird because it strikes me pretty odd why she would want to talk about cooking at her house? I finished making some eggs and toast for some kids and looked at the time. It was 10:35. I had gotten completely caught up in Joanna’s question that I didn’t focus on the time. My shifts only 4 hours and Louie likes that. He doesn’t have to pay me as much as the others cause I’m only a teen and so is Mark. Joanna and Mark are also morning workers. Course Mark, age 16, goes to 11 and Joanna, age 22, goes to 12.

I took off my apron and reluctantly walked out the kitchen door. I waved bye to Mark and Cho. They did the same. I said adios, good-bye, to Robert and he said asta manana, which means till tomorrow basically. I smiled at kitten and she smiled back and I walked out of the restaurant. My step-grandma was waiting for me so I got in the car and we drove home and stayed there for about 10 minutes. Then grandpa came back from an “easy job” and took me to Granger. It was about 1:00 when I got of the barber shop looking like I was 10 when I was really 14.……wait to hear the rest l8r. Oh trust me its going to be good……
