CHAPTER TWO
Becoming a Teenager
My 13 birthday was coming up and according to Uncle Tony I was going to have a great birthday party. It really didn't make any difference to me because every birthday with my aunt and uncle were very special to me. But come to find out my uncle was working on getting my parents out of prison and this was to be my present. To see my parents again I thought "this will be insane, last time I seen my parents I was 7 and I am no longer that child anymore." Uncle Tony told me the day of there arrivial that they understand the situation and would not be tempting me to leave. he infact let me know that my father would be working for him and I was no longer the runner (thats what we called the low man on the list because he ran packages and what not for the boss). I felt strange knowing at age 13 I had a seat at the table and my father was now the runner.
Some insight on this goes back to when my parents where arrested. Uncle Tony tells me they had a simple job to do. They where to stop by the west harbour pick up a bag of money and bring it to them. instead they got the money and ran. Im told it was a round $130,000.00. All I could do was whistle. They ran from New York City to Jersey. Anyone in the family knows you do not go to Jersery when your running from Tony. Even thought there more then one family all the families let Tony know whats going on. Its a respect hes earned over the years. So about three hours after they ran he caught them. Contacted his hired police men and had them arrested and lost in the prison system. Finally when Tony thought they had enough he had them released. I knew my Unlce had power but never knew exactly how much he had. The thought of seeing my parents after all these years just ran wildly through my head. Tony just told me to relax. He had me run one last job and said to stay gone until 6:00 P.M. He said it was so he could talk to my parnets.
The job wasn't anything big just dropping off one package. And it took me all afternoon and evening because it was all the way in Jersey. When I arraived at home I was told to wait outside. After standing there for over an hour it seemed I was motioned in. "Vinnie is that you", my mom screamed and ran accross the room and grabbed me right up off the ground. "Wow how you've grown." Uncle Tony told her enough and she left the room. I was stuned to see my father never once left his chair. Or for that matter even looked at me. Shortly after my mother left the room Uncle Tony took me aside and told me that my father was not to speak to me until he was given permission. Uncle Tony said it was to test his loyalty. I told him what ever was best for the family.
I was now 13 and considered a man.. I was able to see my mother only three days a week and only 4 hours a day because she was busy helping Aunt Milly while I was busy in the city most days. It was strange I was attending meetings with men three times my age and I brag when I say I often had more guys with me. Soon things would change and families would break. Times are changing is all my Uncle Tony would say and he said we had to change as well. So he arranged what would be the biggest meeting I have ever seen. He said all 12 families would be there and was very important for me to attend and be well prepared for just about anything. I told him I was ready. But was I.

Great start to the story, except for one thing. It said in the previous chapter his mother had died. Please make sure you re-read all chapters before adding onto the story. :) |
