The next week passed in a blur. When the detectives got back to us, we learned nothing that helped us find out who did it. The cat was just a stray that was seen all over town. The text was from one of those prepaid phones and then dropped. And the email account belonged to a fake person. I finally got my phone back on Monday, and I ended up having to change the password for my email.

Luckily, I received no more threats. Although everyone was still on edge incase anything did happen. The main thing that I was focused on this week was the game against our rival school. This would be the game of my life, as I also had a full-ride scholarship to think about at the game. It could permanently make the decision.

It has now been a full week since Adam and I started “dating”. But the funny thing was that it seemed so real, no matter how fake it was. We were spending more and more time together, and last Friday we even went bowling with the gang. It was really fun, but nothing really out of the ordinary happened.

Today was the big day. We were set to take on the Trenton Tigers, the defending regional champs who were currently undefeated, like us. The whole school was buzzing with excitement about the soccer game today. People that I really didn’t know were even coming up to me and Lennie and wishing us luck at the game. I was so stoked. There was even a pep rally scheduled for the end of the day.

It started off with the usual school fight song. Of course, the cheerleaders were cheering as everyone entered the gym and took their seats. Lined up from Seniors on the bleachers on the far left, and then the Juniors, then sophomores and freshman. Across the gym in the other bleachers were the 7th & 8th graders. As soon as the gym was filled and everyone had a seat, the principal started talking into the microphone.

“Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen,” Principal Andrews said into the microphone and looked around the gym. “We are here for a special game later tonight. Your very own Lady Hawks soccer team takes on the Trenton Tigers tonight at home,” she said as cheers erupted from the stands. “Bt we can’t forget the football team who takes on the Badgers tomorrow, away,” as a rumble came from where the football team was gathered. “I would like the senior captains of the football team to please come down here and say a few words.”

Five of the starting seniors went down onto the gymnasium floor, including Justin. Mike Hardy took the microphone from Principal Andrews. “Thank you Principal Andrews. Our game tomorrow isn’t as important as the game tonight, but we still need all of you to come out and support us. We only have one loss, and we plan on keeping it that way. With you guys coming out and supporting us tomorrow, I know that we can beat the Badgers,” he said as he raised the microphone and the students erupted into loud cheers. And we wish the Lady Hawks soccer team the best of luck tonight at against the Tigers.”

Mike passed the mic down the line of seniors, each of them wishing us luck. When the mic came to Justin, he quieted down the students. “Tonight is very important. I wish the Lady Hawks the best of luck against the Tigers. I want to give a shout out to the team captain, Senior Devon Bates.”

He pointed to where I was sitting, so I stood up, gave a quick wave and sat back down again. After Justin’s little speech, Principal Andrews called down the volleyball team to the floor. They went through the same thing, wishing us luck and trying to get people to go to their game on Saturday. After volleyball, the cross-country seniors were called down, in which Adam went down.

They passed the mic around to everyone. Many of them just said a short good luck to us like the other teams did. When it came to Adam, a hush fell across the gym.

“Why’d it get so quiet in here?” he joked. “This is a pep rally! You’re supposed to be loud! Come on!” he said egging the crowd on. The gym was soon filled with thunderous cheers at Adam’s request. “That’s better, but I’m gonna need it a little bit quieter,” he paused while waiting for them to call down. I’ve got to tell you that Adam can definitely work a crowd.

“Yeah, the cross-country team has a meet this Saturday. You’re all welcome to come and watch, but I don’t know where the fun would be in that. But tonight, tonight is what everyone of you should be focusing on. Your Lady Hawks soccer team is undefeated. And we want them to stay that way, don’t we?”

The students erupted with a loud “Yeah,” and pumped their fists into the air. “Come out and support them tonight, against our rivals, the Trenton Tigers.” At the sound of our rival school’s name, a loud boo could be heard. “I don’t like them any more than you guys do. So tonight once you do your homework, come out and support them. I know that I’ll be there, so you should be too. Good luck to the JV team as they travel to Trenton to play their JV team. I know you guys can do it. Good luck to the Varsity. It’s your home turf, so defend it well. Go Hawks!” he exclaimed as he raised a fist into the air.

Adam really got the students electrified. The whole entire student body was on their feet clapping and cheering, Adam’s excitement trickling onto them. He gave the microphone back to the principal and they went and sat down.

“What a way to pump up the crowd,” Principal Andrews said into the microphone. “Now if you could all give a loud cheer for your Lady Hawks soccer team. Could the varsity team please join me on the floor?”

As I stood to go down onto the floor, I literally could feel the bleachers shake and rumble as we made our way down. I just love how much school spirit our school has for our teams.

Lennie was the first to make it to Principal Andrews and took the microphone from her. “You guys are awesome! We need all the support we can get out there tonight! We’re going to beat those nasty Tigers, and then move on and later win Regionals! We know that you want to see them creamed as much as we want to beat them, so come out to our game tonight!” Lennie exclaimed into the microphone.

Lennie then made a motion to get them students to quiet down a bit. “And now, the great captain of the Lady Hawks, Devon Bates!” Lennie said as she handed me the microphone.

Taking the microphone, I looked all around the gym as people cheered, hooted and hollered. Usually at these things, I see a few faces who are bored and uninterested, but this time all the faces were looking at me with interest.

“Hey guys,” I started, not really knowing how to start it off. “Like Lennie said, you guys are great. Tonight is one of the most important games of the year for us. We need all the support that we can get out there. I expect to see every single one of you out there tonight cheering us on against the Tigers.” Boos erupted as I said Tigers. Laughing, I continued on. “This game tonight is like the Pistons playing the Cavs, or the Colts playing the Patriots. It’s like Ohio State facing off against Michigan. It’s that big.”

“We need you guys out there tonight. Your cheers help us keep going. I know that they are going to bring their own cheering section. You don’t want our team crows to be outnumbered by them, do you? This is our school, our turf, our home. So come out tonight and help us defend it! I’ll see you on the field,” I said passing it over to the next senior.

After all the seniors had a chance to talk, I grabbed the microphone one more time.

“Who are we?” I asked putting a hand to my ear.

“The Hawks!” A cheer erupted from the crowd.

“I can’t hear you. Who are we?”

“The Hawks!” they said a little louder.

“One more time!” I said into the mic.

“We’re the Hawks!” they answered back loudly.

“And who are we going to beat?”

            “The Tigers!” they roared.

            “Who?”

“The Tigers!” they roared even louder if possible.

Lennie grabbed the mic from me, and started chanting, “Hawks, hawks, hawks.” She was soon followed by the rest of the student body. Handing the mic back over to Principal Andrews, we made our way back to the bleachers, while the crowd was still chanting “Hawks” and pumping their fists.

After the cheerleaders did a few dance routines, and the Dean of Athletics talked we were dismissed. I was really pumped. The rush of adrenaline that I got from the pep rally was coursing through my veins. I hoped that this rush would last for a while, so I could use that energy for the game tonight.

It was hard trying to make it to my locker. All of the underclassmen were hurrying, pushing and shoving their way so they could make it to their lockers and gather their belongings and school work and make it to the buses on time. I remember when I was once like that, worrying that I wouldn’t make it to the bus on time while still being able to get a few last words in with my friends before we had to part. Luckily I didn’t ride the uncomfortable bus anymore since I had my driver’s license.

I was jumbled out of my thoughts as I was suddenly shoved up against a wall as one of the lowly 7th or 8th graders passed by.

“Watch where you’re going you little twerp!” I called after them.

“Dev, just calm down,” Adam chuckled as he put a hand around my shoulders. “How would it look for the captain of the soccer team to be beating up on a little middle schooler?”

“You’re right. But they pushed me into the wall,” I pouted.

“Hey, coach said that we have no practice today on account of your game. So it looks like I’ll be driving you home today,” he said as we approached our lockers.

“Aw, that means I won’t be able to drive the charger today. But I guess that having you for company on the ride home is better than driving the charger,” I said grinning at him.

“I’m touched,” he said putting a hand over his heart. “I know that your fantasy is driving the charger, so I’m honored that my company is better than driving the charger.”

“Whatever,” I said as I gave him a slight push. “Stop being so dramatic about everything I say or else I’ll take it back.”

“You’re no fun Dev,” he pouted as he opened his locker.

“Of course I’m fun. I’m one of the most fun people in this school. If I was no fun, then why would you date me?” I teased.

“Well, then it’s a good thing that we’re only pretending to date,” he whispered into my ear. The smile I had quickly disappeared, a bit hurt by his remark. But I quickly put on a smile before he noticed.

“Yeah, pretend,” I said as I stuck my head into my locker, not really wanting to look at him at the moment.

It hurt about this being fake. I realized that I wanted this relationship to be real. It just seemed so natural to be with him, and I loved how he made me feel. But it’s not real, it’s only pretend. Adam isn’t interested in anyone, and this was only to keep his reputation intact. Why would he be interested in his best friend?

This one was a little light fluff/filler chapter before the next one. The next chapter is REALLY long, so it'll make up for the little fluff chapter. We all have fluff chapters, so it's alright. Sorry for not posting this everyday, but I like to be a couple chapters ahead in the writing of this, and it takes a full day or two to actually write them as long as I do. On word, they're usually a little over 3 pages.

Anywho... I has a question for you peoples out there. So you know how my B-day was a few weeks ago? Well, I just wanted to just hang out with some of my friends. But they never make the time for me. But when its someone else's B-day, I always make the time for them, however inconvenient it is to me. I'm just getting sick of always making time for them, but they do nothing for me. We had a surprise part for one friend, went to the zoo for another, and then the week before mine another friend had hers and we had a girls day out. I just don't know what to do about them anymore. Frown

I had to get that out. Comments would make me feel better :D I dearly lovers the comments!

Spread and Share the love!

because it's the cool thing to do Cool
