I'd Lie ~Chapter 6~Authors Comments: YAY! I got the number of the chapter right! lol. Last one was supposed to be chapter 5, but I was too lazy to delete it and post it with the right number. This chapter is a wee bit longer than my usual ones. Hope you don't mind!

After getting my gear, I headed out the front door, hopped in the charger and started on my way towards the school. My cell started to ring as I backed out of my driveway, but I just ignored it, not wanting to crash into anything. If the person was important enough, I’d call them after I reach the school. The sound came on a minute later letting me know that they had left me a voicemail.
I sighed as the school came into view. Carefully I pulled into the parking lot and parked it close to the entrance near the locker rooms. Digging around, I found a piece of paper and a writing utensil so I could leave Adam a note.
“Your car is absolutely fine, so don’t worry. Remember that you have to stay for the game so you can drive me home! Have fun! <3 Dev.”
Stepping out of the car, I placed the note on his seat where I am sure that he would notice it. After grabbing my gear, I headed towards the field while playing my voicemail. It turned out to be mom, wishing me good luck tonight, and that her and dad would try to make it to the game.
Mom and dad both worked as doctors in one of the city hospitals. They drove an hour just to get to work, and then an hour back. They only got off work at 6, so they always missed the start of the games, even though they made it to most of them. But sometimes there was an emergency where they were forced to stay longer.
Walking into the locker room, I was greeted by my fellow teammates. Sitting down, I put my cleats on, while Lennie sat down next to me.
“So how is everything going with the boy?” she asked while giving me a nudge.
“We’re fine,” I said smiling. “He even let me drive the Charger home from school,” I said excitedly while putting my long hair into a ponytail.
Her eyes widened in shock. All of our group of friends know how important the Charger is to Adam. “No, way. He let you drive the charger home from school? No wonder why you didn’t want to catch a ride with me anymore,” she joked.
“I can’t believe that I actually got to drive it! You know that it’s the car of my dreams, right? Driving the Charger was close to being in heaven,” I sighed and slumped backwards on the bench against the lockers.
“So, is he going to come to the game after his meet?” Lennie asked curiously.
“I hope he does,” I laughed. “For one, I have the keys to his car and he can’t really leave without them. Two, he’s driving me home.” After I said that, I realized that I had left him that note for nothing, because if I had the keys, he wouldn’t be able to get into his car and leave anyhow. Oh well, writing him a note was fun.
Coach Martin then walked into the locker room. “Ok ladies, listen up. I know that the team we are playing hasn’t played too well in the last games that we played them, but I’ve been talking with coaches around the league, and they are a different time this year. They are said to be one of the best teams in the area, and could make a run for the Championship. So don’t go and underestimate your opponent. Play your best, and have fun. Now let’s go to the field for warm ups,” she said as she clapped her hands, trying to motivate us.
Standing up, all of us readied to head out of the locker room. I was the last one to emerge as thoughts of the brief dream I had of Adam during my nap flitted through my head. My thoughts were so far off in lala land that I had managed to actually walk face-first into the locker room door. Rubbing my forehead, I opened the door and proceeded out behind my teammates.
Walking onto the field immediately gave me an adrenaline rush. The feel as the spikes of my cleats dug into the earth with a firm grip mixed with the smell of fresh air. I quickly jumped up and down in place a few times, kicking my feet up to touch my butt.
Joining up with the team, we began our stretches and then we began our actual warm ups, consisting of running from the middle of the field back and forth to the goal. After making a few trips back and forth, we practiced on our passing and shooting skills. It was while we were working on these skills that the other team walked onto the field and began their warm ups.
“I can’t believe that they are actually supposed to be a good team this year. Now that’s a good laugh,” Marissa, the blocker said as I practiced my shot.
“Shut up Marissa. Don’t ever underestimate anyone or it will be your downfall,” I hissed at her as my shot went sailing past her head.
“Like you’re one to talk, miss perfect. Now shut it Bates and move along.”
Marissa and I barely ever got along. She was a senior like Lennie and I, and she was upset that I was voted team captain and not her. Also, she was jealous that I was best friends with Adam when everyone knew that she had a major crush on him. I guess now that I’ll have to watch out for her more than I used to.
The whistle blew, signaling the end of warm-ups. We all jogged towards our bench, huddling around Coach Martin to hear what she had to say.
“That was a good warm-up girls, but now it’s time to crack down. The normal starters will be starting tonight. Bates, take ‘em out,” she said to me with a nod.
I nodded back and went part ways onto the field and had the team gather around me in a huddle. “Like Coach Martin said earlier, this team has built a reputation this year. Don’t underestimate them, as it could cost us the game, and a spot to play for the Championship. We’re undefeated, and let’s keep it that way. Everybody put your hands in,” I commanded. As soon as everyone put their hands in, I nodded to Lennie.
“Everyone yell, ‘Lady Hawks’ on three, got it?” she said.
“One two three ‘LADY HAWKS!’” the team shouted as we all ran off in to be in our starting positions, and others ran towards the bench.
Since I was captain, I strode to the middle of the field, along with Lennie and Arlene, another senior, by my side to greet the other team. After a quick handshake with the captain of the other team, Lennie stood ready, as she was the starting forward.
With a blow of the whistle from the referee, the game was off. Lennie immediately kicked the ball and our team had possession of it. While I had the ball and was charging to the goal, a girl from the other team came running up at me. She kicked me with a lot of force in the shin with the spiky side of her cleats, making me trip. Quickly, she took off with the ball down the field passing it to one of her teammates as I quickly got back on my feet.
“So, you want to play dirty? I’ll show you dirty,” I thought to myself as I took off down the field looking for the girl who had kicked me.
Seeking her out, I made like I was trying to get the ball. But when one of her teammates passed it to her, I took off at full force and rammed right into her never slowing down, knocking her flat on her arse. The ref blew the whistle, signaling a foul.
I went up to the ref and began to argue. “Come on ref! I was running so fast for the ball that I couldn’t slow down and ended up knocking her over. That’s not a foul!”
“Careful Ms. Bates, or you’ll get thrown out of the game,” said the ref. I’ve played in so many games and fought with the referees so many times, most of them know me by last name. It was a proud, yet kind of shameful thing.
The girl lined up for her penalty shot, but luckily Marissa was on her toes and was able to block it.
“That’s the way to block Marissa!” I yelled while giving her a thumbs up.
“If you would just behave, I wouldn’t have had to block anything,” she yelled back at me, while giving me a death glare.
With a shrug, I put my attention back on the ball. Coach was right when she said that this team was better. But the only reason they were better was because they played dirtier. They would elbow us in the ribs, step on our feet, kick us with their cleats, along with other things that I really don’t feel like listing.
During the halfway mark when we were taking a break, I huddled the girls together.
“The only reason they are better is because they’re playing dirtier. I know you guys like to uphold the rules, but this time it’s ok to play a little dirty, just keep it from being overly noticeable like my ram at the beginning. It’s time to give them a taste of their own medicine,” I said into the huddle of girls who were looking a bit downtrodden.
“I’m with you Dev. It’s time to fight fire with fire. When we go back out there, let’s tear it up,” Lennie said enthusiastically. “Lady Hawks on three.”
“One, two three ‘Lady Hawks!’” yelled the girls. The whistle blew, signaling the start of the second half.
We went out onto the field, ready to take our revenge. While the other team did their tricks, we got them back. Heading into the final 4 minutes of the game, the game was tied 3-3. Everyone was lagging, bruises were starting to appear on our legs, and our jerseys were covered in mud and grass stains. The time was ticking down, but no one was able to score. Coach took a time out with 2 minutes left on the clock.
As we gathered around coach, she went on a mini-rant. “You girls are playing your heart out tonight, but right now that’s not enough. I want you to score no matter what. Try to draw a foul, do a trick play, anything, just score,” she said with a clap of her hands.
This whistle blew signaling the end of time out. While jogging back onto the field, I felt someone nudge my back. “Did you see who was in the stands?” Lennie whispered to me.
“No, who?” I asked as I turned around and scanned the crowd.
“Adam, you dummy. Now let’s go!” she said as she smacked my arse.
Smiling to myself, I turned back around and focused the remaining 60 seconds on the game. We were in possession of the ball, and we were close to the net. With 10 seconds left, Lennie passed the ball to me. I took a shot which ricochet off the top and then Lennie jumped and head butted the ball and made the winning goal.
Lennie ran around and sank down onto her knees as the rest of them team all dog-piled onto her. As soon as everyone got off of her, she said “Now that is what I call girl on girl action,” while standing up and laughing.
“Let’s head to the locker room ladies, and we’ll talk in there,” Coach Martin’s screech could dimly be heard of the cheering of my team along with the fans in the crowd.
With a whoop, we set off for the locker room. I was walking next to Lennie, congratulating her on the awesome head butt she did when I ran into someone. Looking ahead, I saw Adam looking down at me.
“Good game out there,” he said with a smile.
“Hey, glad that you came. Did you see the winning goal?” Lennie asked excitedly.
“I saw it, congrats Lennie. Do you have my car keys?” he asked turning towards me.
“Yes, but they’re in the locker room. Walk to the locker room with us and I’ll give them to you,” I said as I started walking.
We walked into the school and into the locker room, and Adam stood outside the door. I was rummaging through my bag when coach started to talk.
“That was a good game out there tonight ladies. You played your hardest and came out with a win. If you play like that in two weeks, I know that we’ll beat the Tigers (our rivals) without a doubt. Keep up the good work ladies. Bates, I want to talk to you privately before you leave,” she said as she turned to go in her office.
I nodded at her as I finally found his keys. Looking around, I saw girls getting ready to leave the locker room and ran over to them. “Hey, could you please give these to Adam for me, and tell him that coach wanted me to stay so she could talk to me?” With a nod, they accepted the keys and exited the locker room.
After a quick rinse off in the showers, I made my way over to coach’s office. Knocking on the door, I heard her voice say, “Come in.” Slowly I opened the door and quietly slipped into her office, closing the door behind me. I’ve been in this office so many times, I didn’t get scared of it anymore.
All of the pictures on the wall, and trophies in the cabinet used to intimidate me, but I’ve learned to accept it. It was part of a legacy, and I was part of that too.
“Ah, Bates. What a pleasure to have you in here. I bet you’re wondering why I have called you into my office?” she said and I nodded my head in response. “Well, there have been college scouts lurking around this school, trying to see our team play. Many of them are mostly interested in watching you. Today the Soccer coach from OSU came to see me before the game today, and told me that he was considering giving you a full-ride scholarship to OSU if you played soccer for them. He wanted to talk to you personally, but I told him that today wasn’t a good day, and that he should come back when we play the Tigers. What do you say?”
My mouth felt like it had literally dropped to the floor. I’ve always dreamt of playing soccer on a higher level, but I’ve just been considered to go to OSU, my top school. Adam and I have always talked about going to Bowling Green together.
“Coach, this is such a wonderful opportunity. I’d be happy to talk to him on a later date after I’ve talked to my parents about this. I don’t know what else to say,” I said, still partially in shock.
“I’ll call him and tell him to come back and talk to you then. I really hope that this works out for you Bates,” she said with a wink. “You’re dismissed.”
Since this one was kinda long, I'm not gonna post tomorrow so I can get further ahead in the writing of this. I've been stuck on chapter 10 for like 5 days now, and that's not cool. I'll post Chap 7 on Thurs or Friday. And I promise you that it'll be worth the wait!
I'm not making her realize that she's in "love with him". At least not yet anyways. There is more drama building into this, and the revelation is all part of the big plot and so on. i'm so PUMPED about the upcoming chapters, it's like... whoa.
I wish that there was a peace sign smiley on here.
I love smileys... they're like a small obsession of mine.
Also, I'm sorry if I got the soccer positions wrong. I don't play soccer, and I'm sorry that I didn't look up the positions. Just please don't get up on me for it.
Comments are most welcome!! :D Leave a thought, or comment instead of just the usual "i love this! it's so great!" lol. I love em, but I sometimes like more substance to the comments, with thoughts on where you would like the story to go and such.
the Time Warp is AMAZING!!!!
Spread and Share the LOVE! because its the cool thing to do! :D

I liked it a lot, and the imagery was amazing :)
