            It was my senior year in high school, and it was supposed to be a blast. I was supposed to go out with the guy of my dreams and have the year pass by. But that didn’t happen.

            Now, I love my best friend Adam, I really do, but not in that way. What else would you expect living next door to each other our whole lives? We’re the typical best friends, my home was his home, and vice versa. We would share anything, from our toys, to food, and even our clothes. But sometimes Adam would cross the line quite a bit.

            Like when I would be in the middle of a date, he would either call me, telling me that it was an emergency and I would rush home only to find he needed help with his homework. Or he would actually come find me on my dates and then join us. I don’t know why he did it, because I would never do that to him and his dates. Well, if he ever went on dates.

            You see the thing is, Adam has never had a girlfriend. He’s never even been on a date in his 17 years. Though I can’t see why, since he has these piercing blue eyes, brown hair that most girls would want to just run their fingers through, and a to-die-for dazzling smile. There are so many girls at school tripping over themselves whenever he’s near, and would do anything to be noticed by them. But he just simply says that he’s not interested in anyone.

            He runs cross-country while I’m on the soccer team, and all the girls keeping hounding me to get him to talk to them. All I can do is shrug and promise I’ll try. Meanwhile all the guys in cross country hound him about why he’s never had a girlfriend. Lately they’re been hounding him more than usual, and making accusations that he’s gay.

            Adam has nothing against gays, but every time they say that, he just gets real silent and ignores them for the rest of the time. But one day I think they went too far, as that was the day that totally changed how I thought my senior year would be.

            I remember that day so well. I was sitting on the front swing on my porch after I had just gotten home from soccer practice, when he came and sat down next to me.

            “Devon, I kinda have something to tell you,” he said not looking at me.

            I could tell that something was up. He never called me by my full name unless there was something wrong, or he thought I wouldn’t like it.

            “Adam, what is it?” I asked, cocking an eyebrow at him, unsure of what to expect.

            “Well, you know how the guys on the team are, always harassing me about how I’ve never had a girlfriend, right?” I nodded my head, signaling for him to continue. “They said that I had to find a girlfriend within the next week or else they would tell the whole school that I’m gay, and you know how much I hate being called gay.”

            “Well, that doesn’t sound so bad,” I said, trying to sound cheerful. “There are so many girls at school that drool over you so it won’t be that hard to find you a girlfriend.”

            “The thing is Dev, I told them that I already had a girlfriend,” he said nervously. I felt the pit of my stomach tighten, knowing that I wouldn’t like this. Raising an eyebrow, gesturing him to go on, he said, “I told them that you were my girlfriend.”

So... I'm Really excited to be writing this. I'm currently working on chapter 7 as we speak, and I love writing this! I'm kicking myself that this is another romance story, but oh well. Whenever I write something in the other genres, it doesn't go over so well, so here's to hoping that this one works! And my story Watching Over You will be discontinued until further notice as everytime I posted it, the rates wen down, making me think that people were becoming less interested in it.

Before you get in a snit about how the names of my characters are the same as some others, I started writing this on Aug 24, before they even posted theirs, so yeah... I also think that Devon is cool for a girl. I've actually met a girl with that name before.
