A Rant by Yours Truly

Personal Created on 8-25-08 Views(148) Story Rating G

I've noticed how no one ever takes the time to say "thank you" anymore. I've been deleting through my pages of comments that I have, and I stumbled across some that simply say "Thanks for your view!" or "Thanks for your comments!" It touched me, because I feel that I made that person happier by viewing their work or commenting on it.

It's so sad now that we are all rate crazed people, who barely take the time to thankn those who rate, comment or view our work. I want to say sorry to everyone for not thanking them, and then I would like to thank everyone who read my works and rated them, and most especially commented on them.

I'm sure that you the readers are getting sick with the writers for being so rate crazed. But is it truly that bad to try to be the best writer out there? But yet writers have a point in asking for a certain amount of rates. Say you normally get about 20 or so rates on your story, and suddenly it's down to like 11 or 12. We lose confidence in writing it, because we think that people are losing interest in the story. We like the rates to make sure that there are quite a few people still interested in the story, and give us confidence to continue.

You may argue that we should write because we want to. Well, we will, but we only post because you the readers like the story so much. The writers don't have to post their stories to share with you guys on here. They could just keep the stories to themselves, and then where would we be? There would be a ton of half-assed stories that are boring and horrible and not great to read.

To be quite truthful with everyone, there are quite a few people on this site who really need to learn how to spell and take grammar lessons. Some of the stories are just... stupid, and a bore to read! I feel really really REALLY bad about saying that, and I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but that's how I feel. This is a rant after all.

Also, try picking out a story each time you come on here that sounds interesting. There is a lot of talent on here, and it goes to waste because people are too lazy to take the time to read it. They only read the work of their friends and don't care about anyone else.

Now, I'm probably going over old territorry here, but the one thing I hate about the story part of testriffic is that you basically have to write romance stories in order to get your work noticed on here. I know we all like romance because we want to have our own fairytale in a way, but not all stories are romance! I CANT STRESS THIS ENOUGH! Next time you try to write something, back away from the love and romance, and even the drama. Try writing fiction, or even a horror. I believe that quite a few people have the capability to make a really thrilling horror story. I haven't seen one since xxcassiejayxx's story "Killings of Garentonia" that was really good. Now that was a thriller! I highly recommend it!

Anyways... just try something new! Romance stories can get to be so boring at times becase they're so predictable. BE UNPREDICTABLE and try something different! Be all that you can and all that jazz. Fuck the system, don't keep writing romances! i've always wanted to say that...

Right now I am even continuing my story "Deal With a Vampire" that I began last year, and thankfully it's almost finished. I will not cry, even though that story lost most of it's readers. It last had 15, now it's down to 3 or 4. Chapter 20 was last posted in september, and now as of today I have up to Chapter 23 posted. Please check it out and comment! It would mean the world to me! I love hearing from you all!

And once again thank you all, for either reading, rating or commenting on any of the work that I have done :D

I am sorry if I offended anyone with my rant. If I did, I am truly sorry, as this is only a rant to share my feelings, and not intended to hurt anyone. Oh, how I love creating fusses... In a good way :D

twilight8218 true. the romance stories (most anyway) on this site really need to step outside the box. a horror story would be great and even though i have tried to come up with some they just end up turning into one big clique'. and yes i do tend to not comment back from the comments i get on my story. either i forget to or i just keep my gratitude inside. of course i am very thankful for it but i am guilty of not responding to the courtesy. oh and you're right on the grammar part too. some are just plain horrid and when you alert them of their mistakes that make some excuse like "that is how i write and if you don't write it then don't read it"

AngelOfNight47 I'd have to agree with you on all fronts. Though i am guilty of writing a partial romance story right now. It was derived from a dream/personal expirence, but technically it isn't a romance. it's hard to explain, but sometimes it's hard to switch genre's for people because it's like my inspiration is something of romance. you know? but I so see where you're going about grammar and everything like that.

tece26 I have to agree about the romances. It seems that that is what everyone writes (yes, including me) I also think its the easiest type to write. lol... I want you to know I am workig on a mystery and I am pretty excited about it. But becaue it is harder, at least for me it will take a bit longer to get up. But its coming I promise! I aso think though that it has to do with age, I dont want to offend anyone here either, but the majority of writers I see here are young teens, and lets face it, thats what they want, romance. I enjoy writing everything and I enjoy reading it all as well and seeing the creativeness of ppl. So maybe they will branch out a litle as they get older. If not, it's going to make stories like DISxNotorious's Zombie story or psycho killing girlfriend story, or my mystery (when it's up) a little more unique. Am I making any sense?
On August 25th 2008 DISxNotorious Said :
DISxNotorious Agh, I agree entirely on the rates part AND the romance stories part. I know I sound hypocritical when I say that, considering that four of the five stories I'm writing right now are romance... but if anyone were to think back, they'd know that just before I started to post my romance stories (of which I think are rather creative, actually, being thrillers as well as romance, and one isn't really a romance at all... it's sort of an 'I want romance' story =D) I had a horror story, a zombie story, that nobody was interested in. That dumbfounded me. I had thought that people liked horror and thrillers, not just sex and kisses. Me, personally, I would LOVE to see some more horror stories. I like reading people's descriptions of battles or murders a lot more than I like reading people's twisted sex stories. My most recent two stories, Love and First Plight and The Diary Of My Life are both far from romance. Love and First Plight sounds like one, but it's a high fantasy story about a guy who befriends and falls in love with a girl who is trying to kill him. The Diary Of My Life is a diary story that follows a nameless girl as she slowly slips into insanity (I'm having fun with this one...) AGH I wish that more people would write horror! Not all vampire stories or murder stories need a couple in them, you know? I totally agree with you... -D.N

atavanhalen I agree on the rates and comments part. Chapter 4 of my story To Save a Life got 20 rates, and then the last one I posted, Chapter 5, only got 9. So Now i'm sitting here completely unsure where I want it to go from there cause I think people are losing interest. I was even going to write another in the series after this one, and now I'm not so sure people will care to read it.

Ashlev2008 hey i know what you mean about the romance novels and stuff i am currently writing one ... when i can find the time... and its a real bummer cuz i only have like 2 readers but thats ok and stuff cuz those two readers will be able to read my work and i was also trying to find a way to imcorporate the impossible like maybe my character falls into a different deminsion or something and has to save the deminsion i think that would be cool, but thanks for the rant its always good to hear somenoe elses perspectiv on things
