Watching Over You [Chapter 1] |

A New Kind of Good *Chapter 8*
|
I laughed to myself as I watched Tristan’s expression from under the water. He was staring at the water with a frown, while his eyes darted over different spots in the water, wondering when I was going to come up. I could stay under here for a least a minute or two more, while waiting on him.
He was removing his clothes getting ready to come in after me when I finally popped my head out of the water. “Are you coming in or what?” I asked grinning.
“Maybe I should,” he said walking towards the edge of the lake. “I don’t trust you by yourself in there.”
“Then come in already,” I said as I put a hand on his leg and pulled him in. He immediately bobbed back up to catch his breath.
“That wasn’t very nice,” he said in a low voice while smirking at me.
“Wasn’t it? What are you going to do about it?” I asked, slowly swimming backwards as he came closer to me.
“You’ll find out soon,” he said as he dove under. I knew he was up to something, but I stayed put to find out what it was. It was much more fun this way.
I was just treading in place until I felt something grab my feet. I thought that it was just another piece of algae or something until it started to tickle me. Trying to get away, I started kicking and thrashing while laughing at being tickled when my foot connected with something solid. A moment later, Tristan popped up holding his stomach.
“Geez, you have a strong kick,” he wheezed, slightly out of breath from my kick to his stomach.
“I’m sorry,” I said pulling him in for a hug. “But I couldn’t keep still while you were tickling me. You do know what this means, right?”
“Um, no,” he said with a confused look.
“This means war,” I said as I started to tickle him. He just laughed and dove under the water swimming away from me.
Laughing, I dove under and went after him. I quickly caught up to him and grappled with him from behind, tickling him until he turned around to face me. Grinning, he gave me a quick kiss. After we broke away, he motioned towards the surface, saying that he needed to go up and get air.
As we broke the surface, we both let out a loud gasp while breathing in the air. “It’s getting late, you should go inside,” Tristan said pushing hair away from my face.
“That sounds good, but I want one more really good dive before I head in,” I said as I took a deep breath.
“Have fun,” he laughed as I dove back under.
Sticking close to the edge, I decided to go down as far as I could before I had to return to the surface once more. After I was about 15 feet down, my hand still gripping the wall, I suddenly didn’t feel anything anymore. I pushed my hand to where the wall was supposed to be, but there was some kind of hole in it.
I stuck my head in, trying to determine how big the hole was. But after I stuck my head in, I still didn’t touch anything, so I kept swimming onward. It seemed as if there was no end to it, as I kept swimming for a good twenty feet before I felt a wall in front of me.
As I tried to turn around and exit, I put my hand upward to touch the roof of the tunnel I was in, but that didn’t happen. Instead, my hand pushed out of water and was met by air.
Slowly I pushed up and came out of the water. It was pitch black, so I felt around in front of me and felt some kind of ledge, and pulled myself up to it. As I rolled onto it, I landed on something hard. I felt what I landed on a discovered that it was a flashlight.
Turning it on, I flashed it around to see if there were any other possible sources of light instead of just a single flashlight. Fortunately, I saw candles lined up against the wall. I went over to them and lit them with my fire power, which dimly lit that area.
I continued going around the room sticking close to the wall, and found many more candles that I ended up lighting. The candles gave off enough light that I didn’t need the flashlight anymore, so I turned it off.
Looking around the dimly lit room, I saw many things. In one area, there was a bed set up, but it was too small for a grown adult to live in. Covering the walls were various picture frames, with different photos in each. As I took a closer look at them, I noticed that there were no people in the photos.
“I wonder who could possibly live here,” I thought aloud to myself as I stepped backwards. Since I didn’t look where I was going, I tripped over a big black pot that was standing in the middle of the room. I heard something fall out of the pot as it tipped over, so curiously I looked over to see gold coins sprawled across the floor.
“This is just too much,” I laughed to myself. “First off, the bed is way too small to fit a grown adult. And now there are gold coins scattered all over the floor. Don’t tell me that a wee lil’ leprechaun lives here.”
A loud bang echoed through the room as smoke appeared all around. “Aye, I do not live here lass, but this is me hideout and I would appreciate it if ye would not mess with me gold,” said a voice from within the smoke.
“And who exactly are you?” I asked as the smoke settled down a bit to reveal a short lil man.
He was only three feet tall, and was wearing black pants with a hunter green button-up shirt. He also had a pipe coming out of his mouth and on top of his head he wore a black derby hat. Imprinted on the front of his hat was a four-leaf clover.
“My name be Griffin, and I am the head of the Leprechaun Lads, which is a highly renowned operation.”
“And what exactly do you do in your operation?” I asked intrigued.
“Our operation is similar to that of the human mafias, but only the profits we take in end up going to help support the needy. Though, the SPOF’s are after us. SPOF stands for Supernatural Police Officer Force incase you were wondering. They don’t like that we go after the individuals who have more gold then they would know what to do with. The greedy good for nothing worms and pixies,” he muttered the last part. “What I want to know lass is who you are and why you are in me hideout.”
“Well, I was swimming in the lake when I found an opening in the side, so I wanted to see how far it went. I wound up here when I tried to turn around. Oh, and my name is Alania,” I said sticking my hand out for him to shake.
Griffin let out a loud gasp and stumbled backwards falling onto the bed. “Did you say Alania lass?” he asked staring at me with wide eyes. After I slowly nodded my head, he began jumping around the room.
“I can’t believe it! She’s actually here, in MY hideout out! This is one of the best days ever!” I heard him shouting as he bounced off the walls.
“What is going on here?” I heard a voice say from behind me. Griffin finally stopped bouncing off the walls hearing the voice. I turned around and saw Tristan standing there, dripping looking extremely mad.
“Tristan,” I said surprised. I was so caught up from searching the little room and talking to this Leprechaun that I had forgotten all about him.
“Tristan, is that you old buddy?” I heard Griffin say behind me.
“Griffin? It’s good to see you man,” Tristan said as a smile broke on his face and he strode into the room to give Griffin a handshake.
“Wait, you two know each other?” I asked as they did a weird handshake thing.
“Oh yeah, Griff and I go way back,” Tristan said as he came over and stood by me. “So this is your hideout then, huh? I remember that you promised to show me this one day. But then the SWOP’s got you. How long have you been out?”
“As a matter of fact, I just got out earlier today. I went home and checked on everyone and when I got here, this lass was looking around. So how do ye know her?” he asked eyeing me warily, shifting from foot to foot.
“Well, I’m her mentor and her Watcher. Also, I’m helping her develop her powers,” he said looking at me proudly.
“So it really is her,” Griffin said looking at me with awe.
“I’m guessing you’ve heard about the prophecy too?” I said sarcastically.
“That I have. It is an honor and a privilege to meet the future Queen of the supernatural world. This could be great for my business,” he said to himself.
“What do you mean that it would be good for your business?” I asked raising an eyebrow.
“Well, once you become the Queen or whatever, since I know you, it will help me out and I won’t get in as much trouble,” he said happily.
“Just hold on there a moment. Who says that just because I know you will let you off the hook, huh? If anything, I just might crack down harder on you,” I said trying to keep as straight a face I could and trying not to laugh.
His face went pale as a ghost. “You wouldn’t do that to a hard working family man, would ya lass?” he asked stuttering.
I couldn’t hold in my laughter anymore. “No, I wouldn’t do that to you,” I said placing a hand on his shoulder. “Unless you give me a reason to,” I said seriously.
“I’ll keep that in mind,” he said gulping. “Just so you know, if you ever need me, I’ll be there for you and willing to help at anytime.”
“That’s real nice of you Griffin. I’ll keep that in mind if or when I actually do become the Queen. Nothing is set in stone, so anything could happen,” I said shrugging my shoulders.
“I can tell already that you would make a great Queen. Very wise, and knows just what to say and has a great personality. Have you had any thoughts on who you wanted as your co-ruler yet? Because I have a few guys in mind that would be very suitable for the job,” he said as he nudged me in the side with a wink.
“Wait, what?” I asked unbelievingly.
“I thought you knew. When you take the position of Queen, you have to choose a King, so to speak. I thought you knew this, it was in the prophecy,” he stated.
“Well, that’s the problem. I haven’t exactly heard the prophecy. I have only heard bits and pieces of it from different people.”
“You haven’t heard the prophecy yet? That is a bunch of blarney! You need to go see the Oracle and hear it young lass,” he said sternly.
“I know, that’s why Jordan was going to take me to see him tomorrow.”
“Jordan? You mean the genie who lives in the house? Ha, what a joke. He is just a waste of space if you ask me,” he muttered.
“Why would you say that? He seems like a nice guy to me,” I said curiously.
“Yeah, he is nice, but he’s absolutely worthless. Always sneaking around and getting into trouble. That witch he was with wasn’t any better. They were always scheming and devising some kind of plan. But what kind, I don’t know. But I just have the feeling in me gut that it is nothing good,” he said shaking his head.
“I told you that I didn’t trust him,” Tristan said to me in an “I told you so” tone.
“Tristan, now is not the time to be saying ‘I told you so’. Now we should be checking out Jordan’s background and see if he has any criminal offenses or anything,” I said poking him.
“We can do that. Besides, you’re just upset that I was right,” he smirked.
“Why do you like to get on my nerves so much? I thought I told you not to do that?” I said smilingly innocently as I held a fireball in my hand.
“Now, there’s no need to do that. It’s all in good fun,” he said backing away.
“Tristan, don’t tell me you’re afraid of a wee lil’ fireball,” Griffin said laughing.
“I’m not afraid. I’m just being cautious. You never know what could happen since her powers are still not completely under control,” Tristan said while grabbing my wrist.
“Let go of my arm,” I said trying to pull away from him.
“Put out the fire first. I don’t want anyone getting hurt.”
Grumbling, I crushed the fire in my hand. “You’re no fun,” I said pouting.
“Of course I’m fun. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to make you laugh,” he said trying to tickle me.
“Tickling me does not count,” I said in between laughs.
“Stop flirting and get a room you two,” Griffin said shaking his head.
“Speaking of room,” I said looking at my watch. “It’s getting late and I need to get some sleep if I’m going to see the Oracle tomorrow.”
“Here, I’ll poof you back in your room so it’ll be quicker,” Tristan said putting an arm around me.
“It was nice to meet you Griffin. I’m sorry for barging in on your hideout though,” I said shaking his hand.
“It’s alright there lass. I’m happy that I finally got to meet you. I’ll be seeing you around,” he replied happily. “See you around Tristan.”
With that, Tristan poofed me back into my room. “Thanks,” I said giving him a hug. I looked down at myself and laughed. “It’s funny, this is the second time I’ve gone to bed wet,” I said looking at him.
“Goodnight Alania,” he said as he gave me a kiss and then poofed off. I changed into my pj’s and then hopped into bed, thinking about the day ahead.
************************************************************
I don't know about you guys, but I really liked writing this chapter. Writing Griffin's character was so fun! I love Irish people and their accents! haha. Anyways, I want to hear from you guys, what characters you like, and who you want more of in the story.
And on my last rant, I'm sorry if I offended people about romance stories. I didn't mean to. A good romance story is good every now and then, but I am just starting to get annoyed with them on here. I just want to see a little something different on here, you know? But I will keep reading the stories I am now, and probably will read more of them, and sometime later on down the road I will probably end up writing more romances. So, i hope there are no hard feelings :D

in a good way
keep me posted [;
