A New Kind of Good *Chapter 7*
|
The rest of dinner went off without a hitch except that the boys kept glaring at each other, and occasionally muttered a cuss word under their breath. When Tristan wasn’t glaring at Jordan or cussing at him, he would flirt with Jenna. She looked unfazed by it, not really paying attention to him. But every once in a while, I caught him glancing over at me to see what my reaction would be.
I just shook my head and laughed it off. I really hope that he wasn’t trying to get me to be jealous of her, because I don’t do that. I don’t like him that way, and even if I did, Jenna wasn’t flirting back. But on the other hand, I felt Jordan starting to come on to me.
When Tristan wasn’t watching, Jordan would grab my hand and rub his fingers over mine, and gently massage them. When he let go, he would give me a wink. I was getting really grossed out. He’s like, a LOT older than me, and it creeped me out. He even dated Carrie for goodness sake! He was good looking for someone his age, but still, EW!
After dinner, as Jordan was about to do something when Tristan butted in. “Alania, we still need to have that talk,” he said staring me down. I let out a sigh of relief that I wouldn’t have to put up with Jordan’s antics for a while.
We headed out the back door and started to walk towards the opposite side of the lake, and out of view from the house. “Thanks for saving me back there,” I said laughing.
“Saving you from what?” he asked as he raised an eyebrow at me.
“Didn’t you notice? Jordan kept hitting on me, and I was getting creeped out. You saved me from being the object of his attention. I just hope that Jenna will be alright being alone with him,” I said giving a nervous glance towards the house.
“I’m sure that she’ll be just fine,” he said looking down into the murky lake water.
I smiled to myself, thinking of earlier. “I couldn’t help but notice earlier that you were flirting non-stop with Jenna. Do you like her?” I asked grinning.
“No, I don’t like her,” he said looking at me.
“Then why were you flirting so openly with her?” I said, not happy that he flirted with her even though he didn’t like her.
“I was just trying to get you jealous. Did it work?” he asked stepping closer to me.
“No it didn’t,” I said furiously pushing him away from me. “First off, you NEVER flirt with my friends to try and get me. I don’t want them getting hurt. Secondly, you are too arrogant and conceited for me to like you. And lastly, even if I did like you for some reason, it would never work because your training me, and it would only get in the way,” I said while giving him my most evil glare.
“But I don’t get it,” he muttered to himself.
“You don’t get what? Why you are such a prick? It’s ok, I don’t get it either,” I said bitterly.
“That’s not it!” he said running his hands though his hair. “This should all be very different. I saw into the future, and we were happily married along with little kids running around. I just don’t get it,” he said as he shook his head.
My heart beat started to speed up. “Are you serious?”
“I’m serious as someone could be. From what I’ve heard from the Guardians, when they look into the future, what they see is never wrong,” he said sadly.
“Tristan, the future is never set. There is always a possibility for change. Besides, even if we were meant to be together sometime in the future, it takes time to love someone,” I said placing a hand on his shoulder.
“I guess,” he said letting out a sigh. “It’s just that I have been watching over you for so long that I already have strong feelings for you.” He grabbed my hand and brought it to his lips so he could kiss it. “Please, just give me a chance,” he said looking into my eyes.
I bit my lip, unsure of what to do. I was just told by this man that in the future we were together, happily married with children. I did want kids down the road someday, but I wasn’t sure if I should believe him or not.
“Tristan,” I said letting out a sigh. “I’ll give this whole ‘us’ thing a chance, but we really have to try to not let it interfere with my training.”
Tristan got this big goofy grin on his face. “Thank you,” he said as he stood up and lifted me off the ground and then spun me around. “You won’t regret it. But now, I have to tell you why we were out here in the first place,” he said putting me down and looking away.
I recalled earlier when he told me that he had news about Carrie. “So, what news do you have about her?” I asked curiously.
He was glancing about nervously, looking anywhere except for at me. “I don’t exactly know how to put this,” he trailed off. “The thing is, she’s not exactly dead.”
“Wait, do you mean that she’s alive out there somewhere?” I asked hopefully.
“You could say that,” he said letting out a huff.
“But how is she alive? That demon told me he ate her. I’m not getting this,” as I sat down on the edge of the bank, while dipping my feet into the lake.
“Well, it turns out that she tied up the Watcher who was in charge of her safety. The Guardians found him earlier today. Each Watcher has a bond with their charge, and if the charge was to die, they would know. After they interrogated him, we found out that she is still alive out there somewhere,” he said sitting down beside me.
“But why would she tie him up? I don’t what could have come over her. And where did she disappear to? Wait, what is a Watcher?” I rambled off my many questions.
Tristan raised an eyebrow and laughed at me. “A Watcher is like an underling to the Guardians, like myself. We each have a charge to look after to make sure that no harm befalls them. Usually our charges are those of the supernatural world, like witches, fairies and so on,” he explained.
I just raised an eyebrow at him. “Wait, did you just say fairies?” I asked incredulously. He just nodded back at me. “Well, after meeting a genie, I guess that I shouldn’t be too surprised that they exist. I wonder what other supernatural creatures exist,” I said to myself.
“You still have a lot to learn about the supernatural world,” he said putting a hand around my shoulders.
“Tristan, do you know about the prophecy?” I asked looking at him.
“Yes I do. It’s a mighty impressive one too,” he said grinning.
“Can you tell me what it is exactly?” I asked, giving him puppy dog eyes.
“Actually, I agree with Jordan that you should go visit the Oracle. I don’t remember it word for word, and it would be best to hear it from him,” he said giving my shoulder a squeeze.
We sat there in silence, just enjoying each other’s company, while I was also lost in thought about Carrie. She was actually alive out there somewhere. But then if she is alive, then where is she, and why would she not let me know that she’s okay?
“What were you thinking about?” he asked looking at me.
“Carrie,” I said letting out a sad sigh. “I mean, the thought that she is actually alive is beyond belief. But, if she’s alive out there, she must have known that I would visit her sometime and see that she wasn’t there and notice something. Why wouldn’t she tell me what was going on? If something was wrong, she would have told me.”
“Now that you mention it, her Watcher told us that a week before she disappeared, she was acting strange. She was meeting with demons and making some deals. In some cases, she would actually go out and kill other witches. We can’t find her because she developed some kind of spell so that we couldn’t trace where she was. I think something is wrong with her,” Tristan replied, frowning at the thought.
“I think you’re right,” I said as tears threatened the corners of my eyes. “The last time I saw her, she was getting mad at every little thing. She yelled at me the whole time, and she wasn’t acting like herself. It was horrible.”
“Shh, it will be okay,” he said pulling me against him and planting a kiss on my forehead. “We’ll find her and then help her return to normal. I promise.”
I looked at him to find he was staring back at me. We were about to lean in for a kiss when we heard Jenna shriek from the house. Immediately we ran back into the house to see what was wrong. Upon entering the house, Jenna was backed against a corner holding a broom in the air ready to strike while Jordan held his hands as in surrendering.
“Get away from me you perverted genie,” Jenna shouted taking the broom and trying to shoo him away.
“What is going on here?” Tristan and I asked at the same time, while looking back and forth between Jenna and Jordan.
“I was just talking to her and she got all defensive,” said Jordan.
“That, and he kept trying to scoot closer and try to feel me up. Gross!” Jenna yelled as she took a swing at him.
“Just calm down,” I said taking the broom away from her. “And Jordan, do me a favor and stay away from her.”
“It was just harmless flirting, but oh well. I’ve been alone for close to 20 years, what do you expect?” he said while turning to me. “What do you say Alania? Care to ease me of my pain from being alone?”
“Back off,” Tristan said while stepping in front of me.
“And why should I do that, pretty boy?” Jordan asked as he got in Tristan’s face.
“Because Alania and I are together,” he replied pushing Jordan away from him.
“What?” Jenna asked in confusion. “Is this true?”
“It’s true,” I said as I grabbed Tristan’s hand.
“Whatever,” Jordan said walking away. “I’ll be in the lamp if you need me. I can now be in there and out of there without your help, so don’t worry.”
Jenna just looked at me with confusion. “We’ll talk later,” I told her. She just gave me a nod and headed upstairs to her room.
“I have to go,” Tristan said letting out a sigh. “The Guardians have a special assignment that they want me to do. I’ll see you later,” he said giving me a kiss. I just smiled and nodded as he poofed away. I think I’m beginning to like actually trust a man again.
I went into the living room and sat down on the couch. I turned on the TV and decided to stick in a movie. Jenna came down and joined me while the opening previews were on.
“So are you really with Tristan?” she asked disbelievingly.
“Yeah, I am,” I said letting out a happy sigh.
“But why? I thought that you hated the guy,” she said curiously.
“There’s just something about him. We’re just so much alike. Besides, he told me that he saw into the future that we were together and happily married with children. I actually believe that I can trust him,” I said hugging a pillow to myself.
“Wow, he must really be something in order for you to trust him like that,” she said turning her attention back to the TV.
“You have no idea,” I thought to myself as the movie started.
After the movie was over, we went to bed. While lying in my bed, I was restless and couldn’t fall asleep, so I decided to go for a night swim. I quickly changed into a swim suit and headed down towards the lake. Hopefully this time I would be caught on anything, so I could actually go up for air whenever I wanted.
When I went outside and got closer to the lake, I heard a poof behind me. “Done with your assignment already?” I asked as I turned around and saw Tristan there.
“Yeah. I’m just here so that nothing goes wrong again,” he said with a smirk.
“Nice to know that you care,” I grinned. “Catch me if you can then,” I said as I dove into the water and splashed him.

Thank you all for your rates on the last one! I love you all! :D So, I think that this chapter was fun to write, even though some parts may be a little boring. But we all have our boring moments in chapters. I couldn't help but put a little love fling in here. But their love will NOT be the main part of the story, as I am getting SICK of reading romance stories. There are just WAAAY too many of them on here, and I'm annoyed.
Anyways, pls rate and comment! it means a lot! :D
