A New Kind of Good *Chapter 6*

Fiction Created on 6-16-08 Views(125) Story Rating G

“You can’t be serious,” I scoffed. “A genie? Where did you come from?”

“I’ve actually always been here for quite some time, since this house is owned by me. I’ve been trapped inside that lamp on the table there until your friend rubbed against it. I’ve tried to thank her, but she just keeps running away and screaming ‘Demon!’ Do I honestly look like a demon to you?” he asked while spinning in place.

“With all the encounters I’ve had, I would have to say you definitely do not look like a demon,” I said laughing. “But may I ask who trapped you in the lamp?”

“Oh, I remember it like it was yesterday. It was a witch who trapped me in that stupid contraption,” he spat.

“Why would a witch want to trap a genie? I thought genies were known to be good guys,” I said shrugging my shoulders. “Unless the witch who trapped you in there was evil, although to my knowledge, I don’t know any evil witches.”

“No lass, this witch was not evil. She was the exact opposite. In fact, I was actually in love with her,” he said looking away longingly.

“But why would she trap you in there if you were in love with her? Did she not love you back or something?” I asked sitting down across from him.

“No, that wasn’t the case. We were even engaged to be married. But then something came up. She wouldn’t tell me what it was, except that she couldn’t whatever it was and get married. I was heartbroken. I just hope that wherever she is that she’s happy,” he sighed.

“I don’t get it. She didn’t have to trap you in the bottle,” I said frustrated.

“She knew that I would still come and visit her. But she said that I would just have been a distraction that she didn’t need. So she made sure that I would never visit her. I can still remember the look in her crystal blue eyes as I disappeared into the lamp. Those eyes and her red hair have been burned into my memories,” he said sadly.

“Jordan, how long have you been trapped in there?” I asked curiously.

“It’s been nearly 20 years since I’ve seen daylight.”

“That was about how long ago my mother died,” I whispered to myself. Shakily I stood up and moved to stand by the window. “Did her name happen to be Carrie?” I said as my voice wavered, and not being able to look at him.

“That it was,” he said suspiciously. “Do you know her?”

“As a matter-of-fact, I did. My mother died nearly 20 years ago. When she died, Carrie became my caretaker. After my mom’s death, she was crying a lot. I thought that it was over her, but then a lot of times I would hear her talking about England, and how she missed someone dearly. But I was only 7, so I didn’t know any better.”

“This is good news! How is Carrie?” he asked, hope shining in his eyes.

I looked over and into his eyes, and had to keep myself from crying. “Jordan, I don’t know how to tell you this, but Carrie is dead,” I said hanging my head.

“What? No! How can she be dead?” he cried.

“A couple weeks ago, she went after a demon, and he ended up devouring her,” I said as tears threatened my eyes.

“This can’t happen. How can one of the most powerful witches of all time be devoured by a demon? That demon has to be killed!” he said as rage overcame him.

“Don’t worry, he’s already dead,” I said looking out the window.

“How do you know this?” he asked, still somewhat in a rage.

“Because I’m the one who killed him,” I said angrily. “If only I knew that I had powers back then, I could have killed him way before she was killed,” I said harshly.

“Wait, you’re a witch too?” he asked and I nodded my head. “Lass, what would your name happen to be?” he asked stepping close to me.

“My name is Alania,” I said curiously. “Why?”

He suddenly got this huge grin on his face as he jumped up and down. “Would you happen to be the daughter of Athena Laski?”

This genie was starting to scare me. Maybe I should put him back in the lamp. “So what if I am?” I said stepping back from him.

“I can’t believe it!” he shouted as he ran around the room. He was going crazy! Jumping on the furniture and shouting incoherent things. He finally stopped right in front of me, picked me up and swung me around.

“Um Jordan? What’s going on?” I asked as he set me down.

“Do you not know?” he exclaimed as Jenna walked into the room to see what the commotion was all about. “You are the daughter of Athena, one of the most powerful witches of all time. You are the one on which the prophecy was based!” he said looking starry-eyed.

“Wait, there’s a prophecy about me?” I asked as he finally settled down.

“You mean you don’t know? But you are only the most famous witch in the whole supernatural race,” he said bug-eyed.

“This isn’t something like in ‘Harry Potter,’ is it?” I asked.

“I don’t exactly remember the whole prophecy, but I do know that you are destined to be the most powerful being in the entire universe, the Queen of all that is good. Hey, show me those powers of yours,” he said excitedly.

“I hate to break it to you, but I’m still developing them. They aren’t completely controlled yet,” I said as a flame flickered in my hand.

“What do you mean that you’re only still developing them? Carrie knew about the prophecy! Why did she not help you learn your powers? I can’t believe this,” he said as he started rambling on and pacing about the room.

“So how was training today?” Jenna asked as I plopped down on the couch next to her while Jordan was still ranting.

“It was fine,” I said leaning back.

“And how is Tristan?” she asked curiously.

“As arrogant and infuriating as ever,” I said bitterly. “And speaking of Tristan, he decided that he was going to stop over for dinner tonight.”

“Fun,” Jenna said sarcastically. “I’m probably going to be listening to you two bickering the whole night. Did he say why he’s coming over?”

“Nope, but I just hope that he’s not up to anything.”

“I’ve got it!” Jordan shouted suddenly breaking off our conversation.

“You’ve got what?” I asked surprised at his outburst.

“I’ll take you to the Oracle to find out what the prophecy is exactly. And I could also help you with your training and developing your powers. It is the least that I could do since you are Athena’s daughter,” he said eagerly.

“The Oracle? Wow,” I said in disbelief. “It would truly be an honor to meet him. I have heard of his many accomplishments.”

“You make him sound like this mighty guy, but he isn’t. He’s my cousin, so he isn’t that special,” Jordan scoffed.

“The Oracle is your cousin? No way! I love you!” I said as I forgot my self control and jumped on him.

“So, you love him, but you don’t even like me?” I heard a voice mock being hurt.

“Tristan, what are you doing here?” I glared while getting up, choosing to ignore his statement. “Dinner isn’t even ready yet, so there’s no need to be here.”

“I just dropped by to make sure that you weren’t getting into any trouble,” he said with a smirk. “And who is your new friend?”

“I am Jordan the Genie,” replied Jordan, stepping in between Tristan and I, while giving him a suspicious glare. “And who may I ask are you?

“I am Tristan, and I am Alania’s mentor,” he said shaking Jordan’s hand.

“You’re her mentor? Says who?” Jordan asked, shaking a finger at him.

            “The Guardians,” Tristan stated simply.

“So you work for them? I should have known,” Jordan grumbled to himself.

“Excuse me?” Tristan said glaring at him.

“You fit the type of them perfectly,” he smiled bitterly. “You have the look, the knowledge, and last but not least, the arrogant attitude.”

“I told you that you needed to loosen up a bit,” I giggled as Tristan’s face got red.

“Whatever,” he replied looking away from me. He smirked as he looked around the room until something caught his eyes. “Jenna, you look very beautiful tonight,” he said while flashing her a toothy grin.

“Thanks, I guess,” she said as she looked over at me as I just shrugged my shoulders.

I just realized that I was still in the clothes that I trained in, and that I was disgustingly sweaty and smelly. As I was walking up the stairs, I had made it about halfway up when I heard a loud ‘ahem’ behind me. “Yes?” I asked stopping, but not turning around.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Tristan said loudly.

I turned around and glared at him. “If you don’t mind, I’m all sweaty and smelly, and I would like to take a shower and change before I eat, thank you very much,” I said as turning around and stomping up the last few steps. I just hope that he didn’t come to dinner tonight to annoy me.

As I went into my room and closed the door, I let out a frustrated sigh. “What’s wrong?” I jumped as I heard someone call out. I looked at my bed, and Tristan was sitting there, staring at me intensely.

“What are you doing in here? Get out!” I hissed as I moved towards him.

“Just one moment. After dinner, we need to have a private talk. I have some news for you. It’s about Carrie,” he said softly.

I stopped in my tracks at his words. My throat went dry as I tried to speak. “What news do you have about her?” I finally croaked out.

“I can’t tell you right now,” he said standing up. “But believe me when I say that it’s best to wait until after dinner,” he said coming towards me. He stopped right in front of me, just staring down at me. Suddenly, he just embraced me in a bear hug. He finally let me go after what seemed like forever. “Have fun in the shower,” he whispered in my ear before poofing out.

I shook my head, laughing at Tristan. I could never understand him, since he always acts so different all the time. I gathered my clothes and then went and took my shower. After I blow-dried my hair and stepped out of the bathroom, a delicious smell wafted under my nose. “What is that smell?” I called out as I headed down the stairs.

“That’s dinner, which is ready!” I heard Jordan call out.

Walking down the stairs, the smell became stronger. As I walked into the kitchen, it hit me all at once. On the table was lasagna, mashed potatoes, corn, gravy, some dinner rolls, and to top it off, there was a huge turkey in the center of the table. “I thought that this was dinner, not a Thanksgiving feast,” I said sitting down at the table.

“It’s nothing really,” Jordan said casually. “I just felt generous tonight. It’s not every night that you meet someone special,” he said winking at me while sitting down on my left.

We sat at a square table, so Jenna was sitting across from me, and Tristan was on my right side. As I looked at Tristan, I saw that he was glaring at Jordan, while Jordan was returning his glare.

“What is wrong with you two? Did I miss something?” I asked looking back and forth between the two.

The table was quiet as we filled our plates with food. The air was tense, as Tristan and Jordan’s glares didn’t let up.

“Alania, you will now be training under me, after we go visit the Oracle tomorrow,” he said nonchalantly.

“She will not train with you. She has me, so there is no need for you. Besides, I’m the best that there is,” Tristan said bitterly.

“If you’re the best, then how come Carrie is dead?” Jordan said furiously.

“Carrie was not my charge! Someone else was looking after her,” Tristan yelled.

“Then why weren’t they there to protect her!” Jordan shouted.

“I don’t know! The one who was supposed to be watching over her disappeared right before she died, and there was no one assigned to her, because they were out looking for her original protector. So it’s not the Guardians’ fault,” Tristan growled.

“I still don’t trust you guys,” Jordan muttered fiercely.

“Maybe we should put you back in that lamp. There might have been a good reason that Carrie put you there in the first place,” Tristan smirked.

“Maybe I’ll put you-,” Jordan said standing up.

“Maybe you’ll what?” Tristan retorted while standing up too.

“Both of you just shut up!” I yelled as I rose, placing a hand on each of them. “This is dinner, and there will be no more arguing. Now sit down and eat,” I said, giving them my most evil glare, while holding a fireball in my palm.

They both eye-balled the fire in my hands as they sat down. “Now, that’s better,” I said as I crushed the fire and sat down.
