A New Kind of Good
|
I sit in wait, waiting for my brilliant plan to go into action. I have spent months working diligently on this. It’s not every day that you get to capture the world’s most wanted demon. I am the one they all go to when they need help with a supernatural problem.
My name is Alania, and I’m a witch. The government pays me to get rid of the bad guys, otherwise demons and other no gooders, while in return they keep my cover under raps. If people knew that I was a witch, things could go bad. I wouldn’t be able to be good at the stealth part of my job, since the demons and other bad guys would know who I was and would attack me before I could get them. And then there is the part where some people think that witches are evil and must die.
Anyways, I have spent the last 3 ½ months studying this demon very carefully. I wanted to learn all of his weaknesses and strengths before I actually took him on. Over the course of my study, I learned that he had a weakness for women. He would do anything to be near or touch a woman. But right after he was done with them he would devour them.
He usually disguises himself by looking like a human. In his human form, his looks are to kill for, which is how he ensnares women so easily. Luckily for me, he always takes the same human form. Also, he usually picks the women up at either a bar or a club. It depends on what kind of mood he’s in. He always goes to the same bar and club each time though.
For a demon who is on the most wanted list, you would figure that he would be more meticulous where he chooses his women and the disguise that he wears. I guess that he has just been slacking off or something after doing it for more than a century.
I put my iPod in one of my pockets. I also shoved an athamae down into my combat boots, while putting a bottle of potion into a pocket that was on the inside of my pant legs. Ready to go, I scribed for the demon, and once I knew where he was at, I set off.
I headed to the club where it showed that he was at. I paid the cover charge and went in, and slowly walked around the edge of the dance floor. I went to the bar to get something to drink and scan the crowd, since I didn’t see him yet. As I went to take the first sip of my drink, I felt someone looking at me. I glanced to my right out of the corner of my eye, and there he was. He seemed to size me up and started walking over to me. I just kept my eyes on the dance floor.
“Don’t you know that it’s dangerous for a woman to go to a club alone,” he said leaning on the bar and looking at me.
“Well, most women like the comfort of having someone there for them. Me, I’m not like that. I like to live on the edge,” I said as I took a drink and looked at him for the first time.
“Would you perhaps like to dance?” he asked coming closer.
“I won’t just dance with any guy,” I said smirking. “Especially someone I just met.”
“Oh, is that so?” he said giving me a challenging look.
I almost had him where I wanted him. I know that he can’t resist a challenge. “It is so, unless you can give me a good reason why I should dance with you.”
“I can make all your dreams come true,” he said staring into my eyes.
I had to quickly look away. If I kept staring into his eyes, I think I would have been hypnotized. No wonder he can get so many women. It’s a good thing that I was wearing my protective amulet tonight. I don’t want to fall under any more of his spells.
I tipped back my drink and set the glass down on the counter. “Then let’s go,” I said as I started for the dance floor with him in tow.
“So, what is your name?” he asked over the loud music.
I didn’t know if he had ever heard of me before, so I gave him a fake name. “I’m Nikki,” I said as I smiled sweetly at him.
“That’s a nice name. People call me Nathan,” he whispered in my ear.
Through the night, I kept playing games with him. Whenever he tried to kiss my neck, I would pretend that I got bumped into and move to “yell” at the person. And when he turned me to face him and he tried to kiss me on the lips, I quickly looked in another direction.
After about a half hour of playing games, he was getting frustrated so he took control and just grabbed me and made sure that I didn’t move. He was kissing my neck, but I showed no sign of emotion. He growled from not getting a response from me. He turned me around again so I could look at him. “Why are you showing no sign of emotion?” he asked me seductively.
“I don’t do that in public,” I said smiling at him coyly.
He gave a toothy grin and started leaving the dance floor, while motioning for me to follow him. We walked out of the club and started down the block. As we passed the first dark alley, he dragged me down it and pushed me up against the wall.
“You are such a witch, you know that?” he seethed as he held me up by the neck.
“What are you talking about?” I said, trying to get him off my case.
“Don’t give me that. I knew that you were a witch the first time I saw you,” he sneered.
“What gave it away?” I asked surprised.
“The protective amulet that you are wearing around your neck,” he said as he ripped the amulet away. “I am so sick of getting chased by witches. Just last week a red head came after me,” he said laughing.
“What did you do with her,” I growled.
“What did you think I did? I ate her! Carrie, I think her name was,” he said grinning at the thought.
“Not Carrie,” I said aloud to myself. Now this was personal. Carrie was my mentor, and taught me everything that I knew.
“Aw, did miss Nikki know Carrie? What a shame. Well, you can join her when I eat you,” he said as he turned into his demonic form.
He was green with scales and yellow eyes. Imagine a crocodile, but without the long nose and tail, and that would be him.
“You picked the wrong witch to mess with,” I said pushing him away from me. “And for your information, my name isn’t Nikki. It’s Alania,” I said as I took the athamae out of my boot and put my headphones in.
I liked to listen to music as I kicked bad guy butt. The current song that it was on was “Through the Fire and Flames,” by Dragonforce. This song was one of my favorites.
He began chuckling. “I’m honored to have the great Alania after me. And after I kill you, I will be a force to reckon with in the underworld.”
He charged at me, while I ducked under his arm and shoved my athamae into his back. He threw a fireball at me. I dodged it as he began to laugh.
“Did you really think that a simple stab with your athamae would kill me?” he asked as he took it out of him.
I stooped down to get the vanquishing potion out of the pocket of my pants. “No, that’s why I brought this,” I said as I ran and pushed him face first up against the wall. “I’m going to pour this vanquishing potion into your wound before you have it completely healed,” I said as I opened the vile and poured it into his wound.
I backed away from him as his body started to shake. No!” he yelled as he blew up from the inside out.
I bent over and picked my amulet up off the ground as demon guts were flying everywhere. “That’s what you get for killing innocents asshole,” I murmured to the burn spot where he once was.
You may ask why I just didn’t use my powers to kill him. The truth is I don’t have special powers. If I do, I haven’t realized what they are yet.
I slunk down against a wall and started crying. My mentor was dead. She was like a second mother to me. My parents died when I was only 7. My mom was a powerful witch and my dad was just a normal mortal. Carrie was also a powerful witch. She and my mom were best friends, so she took me and and taught me everything that she knew, from mixing different potions to vanquish different demons, to how to defend myself.
I was 15 when I killed my first demon. She went to work in her store while I had just came home from school. I found the demon going through drawers in her room, so I quickly ran upstairs to figure out which demon he was, and then grabbed the potion to get rid of him.
I saw on TV that when you kill demons they burst into ashes. This didn’t happen with the one I killed. He blew up and his guts went everywhere. I tried to clean it up, but I didn’t finish when she got home.
She was so worried when she found out that I was up against a demon by myself. But that day was a turning point, as she was never more proud of me for how I handled it. From then on, when she went demon hunting she took me with her.
After high school I went away to college, where I ran into even more of them. Somehow the feds found out about me and pay me to help them out with their cases.
After college I moved back to Boston, which is where Carrie and I lived. I had my own house, but yet I was close enough to visit Carrie anytime that I wanted. I also had a roommate, who knew that I was a witch. She’s pretty cool about it, except for the occasional times when the demons attack the house.
“Well,” I said standing up, “I best be getting home and clean all the guts off myself.” I walked out of the alley and got in my car and drove home.
