Just a Dare ~Chapter 20~
|
We got off the bridge and headed to the left where we saw Noah and Joyce go. He decided to ask me a question as we were walking. “You know I’m leaving tomorrow. I was just wondering, where do I stand?” he asked stopping to look at me.
“What do you mean, where do you stand?” I asked, getting a sinking feeling.
“I really like you, and I always have. More or less, what I’m asking is if you would let me call you my girlfriend,” he said, gazing into my eyes.
On one side, my insides were doing flips at his words. The other half of me was dying on the inside, telling me that it can’t be.
“Darrin? I don’t want to talk about this right now. It’s just too much. We can talk about it before you leave tomorrow. Let’s just enjoy the moment,” I said as I began to walk off.
He quickly caught up and took my hand in his, just letting it stay like that. I looked at anything but him. I had to, otherwise I would break down. We saw Joyce and Noah, and waved to them. They finally noticed us and waved back.
“We need pictures together,” he said to them as he waved his camera.
“Pictures are fun!” Joyce said jumping up and down.
The next 30 minutes were spent taking various pictures, doing different poses, and other things that you could probably imagine. The last picture taken was of Darrin and I standing on the dock, with the water behind us, and the sky was a shade of violet, with pink going across the bottom of the horizon. Our arms were around each other, and we looked as happy as can be.
I wished that this day could never end. I was dreading what tomorrow would bring, and what I would tell Darrin about “us”. But at the moment, I was just enjoying the now, something that I should do more often.
I wrapped my arms around his waist and just stood there with my head resting on his chest, his arms around me. He gently kissed my forehead, and left it there. I faintly heard him say something, but I couldn’t make out the words. “What did you say?” I asked looking up at him.
“It was nothing,” he said looking into my eyes and stroking my hair.
I looked over at Joyce and Noah, and saw them standing there, holding each other and looking out over the river. I sighed, knowing that soon we should be heading back. I still had to take the rap off of my arm and clean it.
Suddenly Darrin spun me around so I was facing him. I raised an eyebrow as he looked down at me, but he just smiled and leaned in and kissed me, while cupping my face. It wasn’t a passionate kiss, but I felt it all the same. So tender, it makes you feel whole.
As we pulled back from each other, a smile played on my lips. “I think that we should start heading back,” I said as I took his hand and started to walk backwards.
“Why?” he asked plainly, dropping my hand.
“Well, I still have to clean my tattoo.”
“It wouldn’t hurt to leave the paper towel on there for a longer period of time. It’s not that dark yet. I want to see the river after the sun sets,” he whined.
“You are such a baby,” I said going up to him and wrapping my arms around him. “But what are we supposed to do until then? It is at least another 20 to 30 minute wait.”
“I can wait that long. Should we continue our little game that was disturbed on the bridge?” he asked waggling his eyebrows at me.
“I’d rather not,” I said laughing. “Besides, I think we should do something that includes both Joyce and Noah.”
“What do you propose we do then? Play truth or dare?” he said sarcastically.
“It couldn’t hurt, could it?” I said sweetly. Inside, I didn’t want to play, after what happened the last time I played it.
He didn’t say anything, but grabbed my hand and led me over to where Joyce and Noah were standing.
“What’s up?” asked Joyce as we came near them.
“You guys up to playing truth or dare?” Darrin asked as he sat down on the dock.
“I guess we could. But why are we going to play here?” Noah asked.
“Well, I want to see what the river looks like after the sun sets and the sky is dark. Since there is still a while until that time, we figured we’d do something,” Darrin said giving a pointed look at me.
I just shrugged and sat down next to him. The dares and truths asked were various. I had to flash everyone, while Joyce just had to make out with Noah for 2 minutes. While waiting for my turn, I laid down on my back, closing my eyes and listened to the river rushing by.
I was so tired that I almost fell asleep, until I felt someone lay down on top of me. They started playing with my breasts, and seconds later they were kissing me. I could tell that it was Darrin, and this was probably his dare.
I wanted to have a little fun, so I put my arms around his neck and started grinding against him. He pressed closer to me and deepened the kiss, making it rougher. I felt him get excited as he was moving against me. He suddenly broke away and then tried to lift himself off, but then thought better of it.
“Hi there,” I said as I looked up and gave him a smile. “So what exactly was your dare?”
“Well, I had to make out with you for two minutes while rubbing your breasts,” he said in a whisper. “You wouldn’t mind if I just laid here for a few, would you?”
I let out a small laugh. He was obviously trying to hide the hard-on that he got. “What would you do if I said no?” I asked coyly.
“I would ignore you, because I can’t move anyways,” he said with a smirk.
“Fine. But now you have to pick someone else for their turn.”
“Okay.” He looked back and forth between the three of us. “Melanie, truth or dare?” he asked with an evil grin.
“Truth,” I said boldly. “I can’t really move anyways,” I mumbled under my breath.
He leaned down close by my ear. “Are you horny?” he whispered.
I opened my mouth in shock. I went to say something, but no words would come out.
“What did he ask you? We want to know,” Joyce whined.
“I asked her if she was horny,” he said with a smirk.
They looked at me with their mouths hanging open. All I could do was blush and look the other way.
“Answer the question me,” Darrin said as he poked me.
I looked Darrin straight in the eyes. “Yes,” I said completely serious.
It was silent for a few minutes after my answer. “Can we please just get on with the game?” I said impatiently, wanting to get their attention off me. They all just sort of nodded their heads and I was finally able to calm down. “Joyce, truth or dare?”
“Dare me,” she said grinning.
“I dare you to play nervous with Noah,” I said with an evil smirk.
I saw them look at each other and blush. They moved away to go sit down and play. I sighed and closed my eyes again. Darrin’s lips were by my ear, as I could feel his breath hot on my neck. I opened my mouth to say something, but he blew into my ear.
“Why’d you do that?” I asked pushing him off me.
“It was an urge,” he said as I felt him shrug his shoulder next to me.
I looked over and Joyce and Noah, and saw that they weren’t getting very far. That’s ok with me, for as long as they do it, I won’t have to take a turn. I looked up at the sky and saw that it was almost completely dark.
I felt Darrin put an arm around me and pull me against him. “I’m happy that I came to visit you this weekend.”
“I’m glad you came too,” I said moving my arm with the tattoo on it so that it was more comfortable as I snuggled up against him.
“I almost didn’t come. If it wasn’t for Joe, I probably wouldn’t have come.”
“And why is that?” I asked propping myself up to look at him.
“Well, believe it or not, it’s because of a game of truth and dare,” he said laughing.
I didn’t know how to react to this. What would a simple game of truth and dare have to do with anything? “And what was that dare?”
He thought for a moment, trying to think of how to properly say it. “Well, Joe knew that throughout high school that I liked you. A lot. So, he dared me to tell you how I feel. So, I told him I would. Since we were in a big group at the moment, I didn’t want to do anything, so I waited until Tuesday to call you. But then that day I chickened out. And then when I talked to you on Wednesday, I realized that the best way to tell you was in person. So, I decided to come and see you. And I am really glad that I did,” he said kissing my forehead.
It was just a dare. It figures, everything that has happened to me this week has all happened just because of a dare. I laughed at the irony. I just laid there as he stroked my hair, slowly drifting into sleep.
I was almost asleep when I was violently shaken by Joyce. “Get up you two. The sky is dark, so we can leave now,” she said backing away.
Darrin got up and then helped me up. He took a moment to enjoy the view and then turned to me. “Ok, let’s go,” he said as he put his arm behind me and pulled me against him as we took off.
I looked at my watch before we left the river, and saw that it was almost 9:30. The whole walk back to the dorm was quiet. Though occasionally Darrin would lean down and place a kiss on my lips.
We were almost back on campus when my stomach grumbled. “Sorry,” I said laughing.
“It’s okay. I think we’re all a little hungry,” Joyce said patting me on the back. “Where should we go to eat?”
“How about the Tower Inn?” Noah suggested.
“That sounds good. Let’s go,” said Joyce as she started walking.
Twenty minutes later the four of us were sitting in a booth at the Tower Inn, talking and ordering food. I looked over at Darrin, and he just smiled and held my hand.
We ate dinner and had a blast. We looked through the pictures on Darrin’s camera, and made fun of some of the poses that Darrin and Noah did. When they came to the last picture of Darrin and me, I gasped. It was so beautiful, us two together and then the lighting of the sky behind it, just wow.
The waitress came over with the receipt. I took my debit card out to pay with that, but Darrin took my receipt out of my hand.
“What are you doing?” I asked trying to grab my receipt back.
“Please, just let me pay for it. I want to,” he said giving me a sweet smile and a peck on the lips.
After the meal was paid for, we left and headed back to the dorms once again. Since it was after 10 when we got back, I had to sign him in with Night Watch. And much to my surprise, Ashley was working.
“Hey guys! I haven’t seen you in a while. How have you been?”
“Good,” everyone kind of mumbled.
“Hey, I’m signing him in,” I said handing my ID over to her. She looked over at Darrin, and then at me. I just mouthed, “I’ll explain later.” She nodded and finished signing him in, and then we went up to the room.
We talked and then got ready for bed. I was lying in my bed, when Darrin came and stood by the edge of it. “Would you like some company?”
I scooted against the wall and patted the space next to me. He lied down next to me with a smile on his face. Joyce turned off the light and we settled down. I was almost asleep when I heard Darrin talk in his sleep. I don’t know what he was talking about, but I heard the last part loud and clear. “I love you Melanie.”
