Just a Dare ~Chapter 18~
|
When I woke up, I was still in Darrin’s arms up against him. I looked at him. He looked so calm and just, I wish I could see him like that all the time. I slowly moved my hand up so I could see what time it was. When I looked at my watch, it said that it was 12:30. My eyes opened in shock.
I heard chuckling and I looked at Darrin to see that he was awake. “Good morning,” he said as he propped his head up on an arm. “Why do you look so shocked,” he said with amusement.
“I think that the proper term would be good afternoon. It is 12:30 in the afternoon, after all,” I said with a smile.
“Let’s go back to sleep then,” he said as he unpropped his head and laid back down, pulling me up against him again.
“Why?” I said laughing as I put an arm around him.
“Well, when I’m at Kent, I usually don’t get up ‘til at least 2 on Saturdays,” he said as he closed his eyes.
“Fine,” I whispered as he drifted off.
I just laid there in his arms for a while, thinking. Laying in his arms, just resting, was just wonderful. And waking up, there in his arms and seeing him asleep, was the best feeling in the world. It just felt so natural, like this is the way it was meant to be. I fell asleep with that thought running through my head, repeating over and over.
I awoke later, stretching my arms out. Suddenly, I noticed that Darrin was no longer on the bed with me. I quickly shot up and looked around the room, and saw that he was not in sight.
I must have had a worried look on my face, because Joyce came over and sat next to me taking my hand. “It’s okay dear. Noah and he went down to the eateries a little while ago to go get some food.”
“How long is a little while ago? And why didn’t he wake me up?” I asked as I got up and headed for the bathroom.
“They actually left only about 20 minutes ago. Well, he said that he didn’t wake you up because he didn’t want to bother you. He said that you looked like an angel lying there, and he didn’t want to disturb how peaceful you looked. If you hurry, we can go join them before they finish eating.”
I went into the bathroom and closed the door. I smiled to myself, as he said that I looked like an angel. I did my business in the bathroom, then went into my room and got dressed. Yes, I got dressed in front of Kim and Joyce. We’re used to each other by now, and plus since I was in theatre in high school, I was used to changing in front of other people.
“You ready to go get some food?” I asked as I was putting my shoes on.
“Yeah, just a sec,” she said as she went into the bathroom to do who knows what.
I looked at my watch and realized that it was after 3:30. “Wow, I really overslept,” I muttered to myself. “What time did you get up at?” I asked Joyce as she came back out of the bathroom.
“It was about 1, 1:30 when I woke up. I didn’t actually get out of bed until at least 2 though,” she said putting her hair up.
I looked around the room and I finally noticed that Kim was not there. “Hey, where is Kim at?”
“Don’t you remember? Starting this weekend, her parents were going to pick her up every Saturday so that they could keep an eye on her and make sure that she does her school work after what happened last semester.”
“Oh, that,” I said as I headed towards the door. “I feel sorry for her in a way. It really sucks being on academic probation, but at least I don’t have my parents here to control me about it. They understand, but I have to do better.”
Last semester, quite a few people I know ended up on academic probation, unfortunately, I was also included. That means that our GPA was lower than a 2.0, and we have two semesters to raise it above a 2.0, or else the university would kick us out, and we would not be able to go back there.
“I’m sorry about what happened last night, with Tyler and all,” she said not looking at me.
“Thanks, but I would rather forget about it,” I said as I kept walking, and we entered the stairwell and began heading down it.
“I just have one question though. Did you know that he was… well, interested in guys?” she asked, finally looking at me.
“Actually, I did know,” I said laughing. “That is why since Tuesday night I wasn’t really talking to him. He told me that he was bi, and that he really liked me, but he also really liked someone else. I bet you can guess who that other person was,” I said sarcastically.
“I’m so sorry dear. But at least it looks like you still have Darrin there for you, if what happened last night, and the way you guys were this morning, is any indication,” she said, winking at me.
“I don’t know about that,” I said with a sigh. “I mean, he ignored me for four years throughout high school, and he waits until now to show up and actually pay attention to me? I don’t know if I should trust him or not.”
“I see,” she said as we reached the ground floor. “But you should just see that way that he looks at you. I really think that he isn’t faking. I hope everything works out ok for you though.”
“Thanks. I hope it does too,” I said as we entered into the lobby.
As we were walking to the eateries, we stopped to check to see if we had any mail on the way. Sadly, there was nothing in there when we checked. Let me tell you, when you get into college, going to check the mail is a dreaded thing. You have hope for one second that you might actually get something, but that right there can either boost, or put down your ego. When you get mail, you get so excited that someone actually cares enough to send you something.
Anyways, after our stop at the mailbox, we headed for the Eateries. But on our way there, we saw someone that I didn’t want to see. Dave wasn’t watching where he was going and ran into us.
“Oh, I’m so sorry, I didn’t see you guys. Mel, could I talk to you real quick?” he said, with hurt in his eyes and showing on his face as he looked at me.
“Dave, I don’t know,” I said as I started to fidget.
“Please Melanie? You were one of my first friends here, and I really don’t want to lose your friendship,” he said with puppy dog eyes.
I couldn’t resist those eyes. “Fine, I’ll listen to you,” I said as I cracked a smile.
“Thank you! Well, you know that last night I wanted to talk to Tyler. Before I told him that I didn’t want to be with him because I was interested in another guy, and he was interested in me, so I thought it was going somewhere. Well, my guy ended up moving to California to go and be with his ex,” he said shaking his head sadly.
“I’m so sorry about that,” I said sympathetically.
“It’s ok. Well anyways, then Tyler started coming on to me. But I knew that you two had been pretty close and that he had feelings for you, so I asked him if there was anything going on between you two. He told me that nothing was going on, and that nothing ever would. So, we started kissing, and that is how you found us,” he said looking at the ground.
My jaw dropped. “Wait, he said that nothing ever would happen?”
Dave just nodded his head, and started back away as I was clenching my fists together.
“Well, Joyce and I are going to get some food. I need to get my mind off of him. See you later Dave,” I said as I started towards the eateries door.
“Wait, I wouldn’t do that,” said Dave worriedly.
Just as I reached for the door, it opened towards me, and Tyler was standing there. “Melanie,” he said in shock.
I just stormed right past him and through the doors without looking at him. Behind me, I heard Joyce tell him, “just do us all a favor and leave her alone for a while.”
I smiled as I stopped and waited for her to catch up. “Thanks,” I said as we started walking to the food area.
“It’s no problem,” she said as she tried putting an arm around my shoulder. “That’s what friends are for, we look out for each other.”
I just laughed as we separated to go get our food. I got chicken nuggets and fries while she got a wrap. We were standing in line waiting to pay when it hit me. I stormed in here so quickly, that I didn’t see where the guys were sitting, or if they were even still down here. “Um, Joyce? Did you happen to see where the guys were sitting, or if they were even still down here?”
She suddenly had a blank look on her face. “No, I didn’t. But I guess we’ll see when we get out there then.”
I paid for my food first, so I stood out waiting for Joyce to come. As I was getting a straw for my drink and napkins, I felt hands poke me in the side. I turned around and saw Darrin standing there with a goofy grin on his face.
“Welcome to the living world sleepy head,” he said as he gave me a nudge.
“You should have woken me up when you got up,” I said pouting.
“I would have, but I don’t know if you would be cranky or not, and I didn’t want to risk it,” he said with a very serious face.
“Oh really?” I asked stepping closer to him. “The way I heard it, you said that you didn’t want to bother me, because I looked like an ‘angel’,” I said grinning at him.
“Who said that?” as a smile tugged on his lips.
“Does it matter who said it?” I asked innocently as I elbow-nudged him.
“I guess not,” he said as he put his arms around my waist. I would have put mine around his, but my hands were full.
“Seriously you two. Get a room or something,” she said laughing.
I blushed, while Darrin let go of me as we headed for a booth to sit in. Though he did walk next to me and put his hand on the small of my back.
We sat down, Joyce next to Noah and me next to Darrin. There was light chatter, nothing really too important. But there was a thought nagging at the back of my mind. So I ended up just blurting it out. “Are you staying again, or are you going to leave tonight?”
“I actually haven’t thought about it yet,” he said scratching his head. “Why? Did you want me to leave?”
“Not at all! I was just wondering, so we can plan things to do.” I said giving him a smack tap on his hand.
“I guess I’ll be staying then,” he said laughing lightly. “So, since we didn’t see all of campus yesterday because of the water fountain incident, do you want to go for another walk?”
“That’s sounds good. Would you two like to accompany us?” I asked looking over at Joyce and Noah.
“That sounds fine. I think it would be fun,” Joyce said as she looked at Noah.
“Yeah, and we could walk into Depot Town too,” he said thinking to himself.
“What’s fun in Depot Town?” I asked them. Depot Town is really just down town Ypsilanti. It’s quite interesting there.
“Well, there are many things. We could even stop by the river. The view is amazing at night though,” Joyce said enthusiastically.
“Let’s go to Depot Town then,” said Darrin as he was nudging me to move so he could get up out of the booth.
We all left then to go get ready for our walk. When I got up to the room, I realized that my jacket was still wet from yesterday’s incident. “Great, now I’m going to be cold out there,” I mumbled to myself.
“Don’t worry, I’ll keep you warm,” Darrin whispered into my ear.
I just blushed and put on a long-sleeved shirt, along with my warmest hoodie, which just happened to be a Cleveland Browns one.
“Nice hoodie you have there,” Darrin said with a wink.
“Thanks, but I don’t really like the team. I just wear it because it was a present from my parents for my birthday,” I lied, smirking.
“You are such a liar,” he said coming over towards me. “Out of all the Browns fans I know, you are the biggest female fan. Come on, I heard you in high school, always going on about the Browns game the day after. Especially going back and forth with Nagle after they played the Steelers,” he grinned. I looked into his eyes, and saw that they were sparkling with amusement, recalling those times.
“Those were the good ole days,” I sighed, with a big smile on my face.
“You two ready to go?” Joyce asked as Noah walked through the door, jacket in hand.
“Yeah, we’re ready,” Darrin said as he stood behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist.
“Good. I’ve been itching to go for a walk for so long,” Noah said as he took out one of his Rubix cubes.
Darrin still had his arms around my waist, so I waddled out of the room with his hands there. It was a fun feeling.
Joyce locked the door behind us, and we were off. When we got to Depot Town, we just walked around the sidewalks for a while, until we came to a tattoo place. I stopped and looked inside, getting an idea.
“Hey, I want to get a tattoo!” I told them.
They all stopped in their tracks and whirled around to face me. Noah and Joyce’s faces held shock, while Darrin just looked at me with amusement.
“Then do it,” he said as he dragged me inside the ink shop.

THANK YOU ALL!!! for rating last time! It meant SOOO much to me! I love all my fans, and you inspire me to write. But when I don't get as many, I can't write, so that is why I ask for the rates. Anywho, I will be more leniant, and only ask for like 11/12 votes this time.
**ALSO** I was thinking of FINALLY continuing my "Deal With a Vampire" story, and I want to know if I actually should continue it or not, Please tell me if I should write more on it or not, because if no one is going to read it, then why continue?

Dorry for the couple of errors. Like, the smack tap thing... it was supposed to be "a light smack on his hand." I guess I didn't go over it too carefully... lol |
