Chapter 15

 

            I just sat there in disbelief. I can’t believe that I actually just fell into a wishing fountain thing. Worst of all, Darrin practically made me fall in. I was cold, wet, and very upset. It was in January after all. I just hoped that I didn’t get sick.

            I just stood up and glared at Darrin, while ignoring the looks we were getting from the few other people who were walking by. “WHAT, were you THINKING?” I yelled at him.

            He was still sitting in the water, laughing. “Well, this was unexpected,” he said looking around. “You weren’t supposed to lose your balance and fall in,” he said getting up.

            “Well, you shouldn’t have been tickling me in the first place,” I said stepping out of the fountain, and turning around to look at him, placing my hands on my hips.

            “I think that you should lighten up a little,” he said coming to the edge of that fountain.

            “You know what I think?” I said going over to him.

            “What?” he said giving me a questioning look.

            “This,” I said as I pushed him. He lost his balance and fell backwards and landed in the water once again as I stalked away from him.

            I looked over at Tyler and he was trying to suppress his laughter. “Shut up,” I said and just walked past him to a bench and sat down, bringing my knees up to me so I could huddle for warmth.

            Tyler just shook his head and went over and helped Darrin out of the fountain.

            “I think we should head back. I don’t want to go walking around all wet. Don’t want to get sick, ya know?” I said getting up and starting to walk back towards the dorm.

            “No, I thought we could keep going and just let our clothes air dry,” Darrin said sarcastically.

            Without looking back, I just flipped him the bird and kept on walking. I kept ahead of them, for Tyler just stayed back there talking to him the entire 10 minute walk back.

            As the dorms came into sight, Darrin said, “Hey, I’m gonna stop at my car real quick to get my stuff so I can change.”

            “Wait, Darrin, why did you bring a change of clothes? When are you leaving?” I asked him.

            “I don’t know,” he said. “I was planning on leaving tomorrow sometime, maybe even on Sunday.”

            “Well, where exactly are you staying at?” I eyed him suspiciously.

            “That, I don’t exactly know,” he said looking away.

            “We’ll figure this out later,” I huffed. “But first, we need to go upstairs so we can change into some dry clothes,” I said heading for the front of the building, with Tyler and Darrin close behind.

            We went inside the dorm building, and I swiped my ID so we could go into my dorm complex. Luckily, the elevator was right there, so we quickly got in and pushed the button for the fourth floor.

            I just stood in a corner, hugging myself. I looked over at Tyler and he just shook his head. “Don’t shake your head at me, I’m being nice. I was going to ask you to snuggle to keep me warm, but I thought I’d be nice and let you stay dry,” I said with a touch of bitterness in my voice.

            The elevator door opened and we quickly made our way to my door, where I noticed that it was unlocked. I opened it and walked in with the two guys behind me, and saw the other three just sitting there. Joyce and Noah were playing Guitar Hero 2, and Kim was watching them.

            Kim saw me standing there and waved. “Hey Melanie! Wait, why are you wet?”

            This brought Noah and Joyce’s attention to me as they paused their game. They just looked at me and started laughing.

            “I’ll tell you in a while, but first I want to get changed. Oh, and by the way, this is Darrin,” I said pointing to him while rummaging through my drawers. “He and I went to high school together. He decided to come visit me this weekend.”

            At that point I made a dash for the bathroom. I could hear the others saying their “hellos” to Darrin, and asking him exactly why he came up here, besides just to visit me. I shook my head, amused at how my friends act. They never fail to surprise me.

            I was starting to strip when I had the urge to go to the bathroom. Going from the cold to the heat caused my bladder to react like this. I finally relieved myself and was starting to get undressed again when there was a knock on the door.

            “Hurry up in there! I don’t want to be wet all night!” came Darrin’s voice from the other side of the door.

            “Keep your pants on!” I said back to him while I was taking mine off. “I had to go to the bathroom. I’ll be out in a minute!”

            “It better only take that long. Otherwise I’m coming in whether you’re dressed or not,” he said grumpily.

            “I’d like to see you try,” I retorted, putting on my underwear and pants. Because of his comment, I decided to take a little while to put on a bra.

            “It’s been over a minute. I’m coming in!” he said turning the knob, the door opening slightly.

            “But I don’t have a shirt on yet!” I complained.

            “That’s your fault,” he said opening the door and barging in with his duffle bag.

He shut the door behind him and just stood there looking at me with my shirt off. He took his shirt off, and we just stood there, looking at each other with lust in our eyes. After what seemed like an hour, he started coming towards me as he made a grab for the zipper on his jeans. I quickly grabbed my shirt and put it on as he stopped right in front of me.

            “You better get out of here unless you want to see me naked,” he breathed into my ear.

            I quickly shoved past him and opened the door and went out of the bathroom. I could hear him chuckling in the bathroom as I did so. Oh well, I would get him later for that.

            I walked back into the room and went over and sat down on my nice comfortable bed. I was just about to lie down on my stomach when Tyler came over next to me and sat down on my right side, and pulled me up against him, putting his head on top of mine. Yes, he was that much taller than me. I sighed and snuggled up to him as I watched Joyce and Noah continue playing Guitar Hero. I looked over at Kim who was also watching them. She saw me looking at her. She then saw me and Tyler, and just gave me a weird look, so I stuck my tongue out at her and continued watching the game.

            Kim also used to have a crush on Tyler. I didn’t know if she still liked him or not. I hope that this wouldn’t make anything weird happen between us. After all, we were going to be moving into a house and living with each other next year. I decided that I would talk to her later and make sure that there were no hard feelings between us.

            Just as the song that they were playing was over, Darrin stepped out of the bathroom, looking really hot in a black wife beater and form fitting jeans. With his wet rumpled hair, and his bare feet, he had a total bad boy look going on. I had to restrain myself from letting my jaw drop, or letting my gaze linger on him for too long.

            I saw that Kim was eyeing him up too. I was really jealous of this for some reason. He’s not even mine, but yet I feel so possessive of him. Yeah, I went to high school with him, and liked him for the last four years, but that is no reason to act jealous, right? Especially when I have Tyler.

            He put a hand on Joyce’s desk and leaned on it as he looked around at everyone in the room. He stopped when he met my eyes, in which he seemed to hold my gaze for a long time. I blinked and he looked away and then to the TV. “So, where am I spending the night?” he asked casually.

            “My roommate is still here, otherwise I would offer you his bed,” Tyler said as he shrugged his shoulders.

            “Thanks anyways,” Darrin said as he gave a nod in Tyler’s direction.

            “My roommate and her boyfriend went home for the weekend. You can stay in my bed over there if you want,” Kim offered.

            “Thanks,” Dan said, showing no sign of emotion.

            Kim then got up and went into the bathroom which connected my room to her room. She tried to open the door that led from the bathroom to her room, but it was bolted shut. “Bad news,” she said coming out of the bathroom. “The door from the bathroom to my room is bolted, and I don’t have my keys to get in there either,” Kim said as she sat down on Joyce’s bed.

            The room was silent for a moment as we all tried to think of somewhere he could sleep, besides going to a hotel where he would have to pay like $70-$80. Just then Joyce spoke up. “Hey, I could sleep down in Noah’s room, so then you could sleep in my bed.”

            Darrin’s eyes lit up when she suggested it. He then turned to me and asked, “Would it be a problem if I stayed the night in here?”

            I looked over at Kim, since it was her decision too since she also slept in here. She usually slept on the spare mattress that we got from Ashley. She just shrugged her shoulders as if to say, “It’s fine with me.”

            I then looked over at him and shook my head. “Nah, there’s no problem with you spending the night in here.”

            For the rest of the night, all of us took alternating turns playing Guitar Hero, since there was nothing else to do around here. Though, at about 7:30, I exited the room, taking my phone with me. I just had to get out of there for some reason. If someone came and asked me why I left, I would tell them that I was ordering pizza, which is another thing I was going to do, since it was so loud in my room.

            After going out the door, I took a left and went down the hallway towards one of the studies. I went in the first study on the left, turned on a light, and then just plopped myself down on the couch that was in there.

I sat there for a good five minutes, with just my hands over my face. I was in a really hard spot. I really love Tyler, and he’s been there for me. But on the other hand, I have have been in love with Darrin since last year, and I liked him throughout high school, but yet he has always ignored me and was an ass. And he’s waited until now to tell me that he likes me. My brain was telling me that I should go with Tyler, since he hasn’t done anything to hurt me. But yet, inside my heart was screaming at me to pick Darrin.

            “Enough of thinking like this. Just order the pizza,” I said aloud to myself. So I called and ordered two medium pizzas, along with two orders of cheesy bread and then just sat there and waited, because I really didn’t want to go back in my room.

            I was sitting there absorbed in my thoughts, when my phone started going off. The ring tone that was going off for the call sounded familiar. I haven’t heard it in a while, but if it was the person I thought it was, I would be the happiest person in the world at that moment.

            “Hello?” I said into the phone, somewhat excited.

            It was quiet on the other line, until someone shouted, “MELLY!”
