            “Shane!” I exclaimed as I jumped out of my seat so I could give him a hug. “I’m so glad to see you!” I said sitting back down as he sat between Darrin and me.

            “Yeah. So, what are you up to?”

            “I’m giving my friend a tour of campus. Oh, Shane, this is my friend Darrin. Him and I went to high school together. He came up to visit me.”

            “Nice to meet you,” said Shane extending his hand.

            “Likewise,” Darrin said taking it and shaking it.

            “Darrin, this is Shane. He’s my mentor,” I said proudly.

            “Your what?”

            “My mentor,” I said laughing. “Here, they have what is called a First Year Mentor Program. It is where they pair up a freshman with an upperclassmen. The mentor helps the mentee get to know campus, tells them what events are going on around campus, and helps them with school and stuff. It’s fun, because they also have events that you can go to together and just hang out.”

            “That’s right. Back in September we went bowling, and then there was the corn maze back in October. They were really fun. I still can’t believe that the end of the year banquet for it is this month already. It went by so fast. How sad that after this month we will no longer be mentor and mentee. Were you planning on going to it?” he asked.

            “Of course I was planning on going. Why wouldn’t I?” I said with a laugh.

            “I don’t know. I actually have to go to a meeting now. I just came over to say a quick hello and see how you were doing. Call me and we’ll have lunch next week,” he said giving me a hug and kissed me on the cheek.

            “I will,” I called after his retreating form.

            “He seems like a nice guy,” Darrin said leaning back in his chair.

            “He really is. He is just so awesome! I love him!” I gushed.

            “Does someone have a crush on their mentor?” Darrin joked.

            “Nope, he’s too much like an older brother. Plus, he’s gay anyways. Let’s just drop the subject,” I said taking a sip of my mountain dew. When I first met Shane though, I was always so nervous to be around him because I did have a crush on him, but then I learned he was gay. Oh well though, he’s a better friend anyways.

 Suddenly, my phone started ringing, and I saw that it was Tyler calling me. I quickly answered the phone. “Hey there.”

            “Hey. Is he done eating?” he asked, somewhat quickly.

            “Yeah he is. Why?” I asked dumbfounded.

            “Well, didn’t you want to go on that walk around campus and stuff?” he asked like it was obvious.

            I finally realized what he was getting at. “Tyler, you know that you don’t have to come along on the walk. I know my way around campus and to other places too.”

            “Well, I would rather go then leave you alone with him for any longer. So, where are you guys at right now?” he said with more force than was necessary.

            I let out a sigh of frustration. “We’re still at the Student Center. We’re currently sitting in the food court where we ran into Shane.”

            “I’ll be there in about five. See you in a bit,” he said as he hung up.

            “Let me guess. Mr. Tall boy doesn’t want you to be alone with me so he’s going to walk with us?” Darrin said with exasperation.

            “Bingo. Johnny, tell him what he’s won!” I said sarcastically.

            For this, I got Darrin to laugh. It was a nice genuine laugh too. “Nice one,” he said placing a hand on his stomach. “How come in high school you never said anything funny like that?”

            “I did,” I retorted. “You just weren’t listening when I said them,” I smirked.

            “Touché,” he said putting his fingers into peace signs. He then took his empty bottle and slid it across the table to me. I then slid it back out of boredom. It then turned into a game as we tried to knock it off the table past the other person. This kept us occupied until Tyler showed up at the table.

            “You guys ready to go?” he asked as he looked back and forth between us.

            “I guess we are,” I said as I looked over at Darrin a shrugged.

            We stood up and headed towards where the bookstore was. We went past the bookstore though, and out of the doors that led outside by the bridge.

            “So where should we go?” I asked as we started across the bridge. Don’t worry, it was totally safe to go across.

            “We should go,” Tyler started.

            “Why don’t we just keep going straight?” Darrin suggested, interrupting him.

            “Sounds like a plan to me,” I said as I skipped ahead a couple steps.

            “Don’t go too far ahead,” I heard Darrin say. I turned around to look at him and saw him smirking at me. “I just don’t want to get lost in this crazy place,” he said coming up by me. “Plus, I don’t want to be left alone with him,’ he whispered in my ear nodding over to Tyler.

            I just giggled a little bit. “Don’t worry, I won’t let that happen,” I joked, placing a hand on his shoulder.

            I looked over at Tyler, and he just looked away from me. He looked really pissed off.  “Tyler, you look mad,” I said.

            “I wonder why,” he muttered under his breath.

            “I told you that you didn’t have to come on this walk with us,” I said going over to him and wrapping my arms around his waist and putting my head on his chest. “Don’t worry, I have you. Nothing is going to happen between Darrin and I. We’re just having fun goofing around. Promise me you’ll cheer up?” I asked looking up at him.

            He looked down at me and smiled. “I’ll be happier,” he said and then gave me a peck on the lips.

            I removed my arms from his waist, and entwined my left hand with his right and kept walking along. Tyler finally started warming up to Darrin after I said that to him. It figures that I had to reassure him first.

            As we walked around, we went past the Library. It was 4 o’clock as we passed it, so the bell in the tower went off. Tyler and I laughed as it scared Darrin witless.

            We kept walking until we came to a fountain. The three of us threw coins into it. As Tyler and I started to walk away, Darrin just stood there staring at it.

            “Darrin, we’re leaving this spot,” I said.

            “Wait! This is the perfect spot!” he said digging in his pocket.

            “Perfect for what?” I said walking back over towards him.

            “Pictures!” he exclaimed as he held up his camera.

            I just bent over and laughed. “What do you want pictures for?” I asked him suspiciously.

            “Just to remember what it’s like up here. I don’t know if I’ll ever come back here, so why not make memories?” he said taking pictures of the fountain.

            Tyler and I just exchanged looks. “I guess that works,” I said sitting down on the edge of the fountain.

            “Stay there! That’s a perfect shot!” Darrin said taking pictures of me. “Ok, could you stand up real quick?” he asked me while heading over towards where Tyler was.

            “What for?” I asked folding my arms across my chest.

            “Could you take a picture of me and Melanie in front of the fountain please?” Darrin asked him.

            “Sure,” Tyler said frustrated as he took the camera from him.

            Darrin came up and put his arm around my shoulder.

 “One, two three, go!” Tyler said as he took the picture. He then looked at the screen. “That’s actually a nice pic.”

“I want to see,” I said jumping up and down holding my arm out for the camera.

            Suddenly, I was being tickled by Darrin. “Darrin, what are you doing?” I said in between breaths trying to get away.

            “Having fun,” he said with a devilish smile.

            “But it’s not that… fun!” I said as I fell into the fountain, taking him with me.
