                          Chapter 11

 

        I woke up at 7:30 and took a shower. I did the normal stuff to get ready for class, and left my room at 9:15 to walk over to my classroom. I got there about 10 minutes early, so I took out a book and started to read. But yet I couldn’t concentrate on it, for there were thoughts of Darrin running in my head after last night’s call.

        The teacher came in and took attendance as usual. I like this teacher as he keeps class interesting and talks about interesting subjects. After class was over I went back to my dorm and went online and decided that I was going to check my facebook. I saw that I had a message on there from Tyler.

        I deleted it. I really did not want to read or hear anything from him right now. Besides, if he has something to say to me, I want to talk in person about it. Since it was only 11:00, I putzed around in my room until I had to leave for my 1pm class.

        The class was boring as always. After class I once again headed back to my dorm. My stomach grumbled along the way. Time for lunch!

        While I was trying to figure out what I wanted to eat for lunch, I got a call. When I looked I saw that it was Tyler. I forgot that we always had lunch together after our 1 o’clock classes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. And today of course was Wednesday.

        Regretfully, I answered the phone. “Hello.” I said, my voice void of emotion.

        “Hey there Mel. Um, do you want to grab some lunch with me?” he asked with hopefulness in his voice.

        I let out an audible sigh, one I think he heard too. “Tyler, after last night, I really don’t think that it would be such a good idea.”

        “But I really need to talk to you.”

        I really wanted to have lunch with him, but I just couldn’t. “Tyler, I’m not ready to listen to you yet. I need a few days to myself. I have to go. I’m sorry.” I said as I hung up.

        I tried not to think about how I wish I could be near him, but that would be bad for me, for who knows what would happen? Besides, I bet that he could get Dave to eat lunch with him.

I went back to my room and waited for about 15 minutes before I decided to head downstairs and grab something to eat. Hopefully he wouldn’t be down there when I went, so he couldn’t try and persuade me to eat with him.

        I was standing in line at A&W when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I tensed up, hoping that it wasn’t him. I turned around and I saw Jack standing there with a goofy grin on his face.

        “Jack, it’s nice to see you,” I said giving him a hug.

        “Yeah, I guess. You wanna eat lunch together?”

        I had to think about this. Should I eat with him? What if he thinks I’m into him or something? I don’t want to give him the wrong impression. “Lunch sounds good,” I heard my mouth say.

        The next thing that I knew, I was sitting down at a table across from Jack. “I’m sorry that I just left you at DC1 yesterday,” I said immediately.

        “It’s fine. I enjoyed talking to Noah and Joyce anyways. They’re cool,” he said shrugging it off.

        “I still feel guilty. I went there to have dinner with you, and I ended up leaving with Tyler.” I said looking away.

        “Melanie, it’s okay. I know that you like him. It was totally obvious by the way that you acted around him last night,” he said as he took my hand.

        “Was it really that obvious?” I asked with a sigh.

        “Very. But, we can still be friends, if that’s okay with you,” he said grinning.

        “Of course,” I said returning his grin.

        We sat there talking for the next forty-five minutes. I found out that he was a really funny guy. I was sitting there and thinking when a random thought popped into my head. “You know, it’s funny. I have a friend named Jill back home, and now I also have a friend named Jack. I have never met anyone by the name of Jack before, and neither is she. And where is Jill without a Jack?” I laughed.

        He put his hand on his chin and pondered. “That’s quite a coincidence, because I have never met a person by the name of Jill before.”

        “Oh my gosh! I have to introduce you two!” I said happily. I then got to thinking. My friend Jill would be perfect for Jack! It was such a good plan.

        Fifteen minutes later, Jack and I exchanged numbers and went our separate ways to our rooms. I went up to mine and turned on my laptop. I signed on to my aim. I went to the bathroom, and when I came back, I had an IM. The screen name was dburyboy12. Then it hit me, it was Darrin. What could he want?

 

dburyboy12: hey there, wat’s up?

toughmelt419: not much, how bout u?

dburyboy12: just taking a break after my class. You never replied to my question.

Toughmelt419: and wat was it?

Dburyboy12: do you have a bf?

Toughmelt419: no. y?

Dburyboy12: just wonderin. I thought that some lucky guy would snatch you up already. I can’t believe a girl like u is still single.

Toughmelt419: you’re kidding me, right?

Dburyboy12: no. you’re a great catch. A girl who loves sports, isn’t afraid to get dirty, funny, beautiful. Wat more could u want?

Toughmelt419: whatever. I won’t believe it til it happens.

Dburyboy12: don’t say that mel. I bet you that you’ll find a guy soon

Toughmelt419: well, there kinda is this guy…

Dburyboy12: oh L

Toughmelt419: but theres another person involved, and he cant choose between us

Dburyboy12: if he can’t choose you first, then he doesn’t deserve you

Toughmelt419: awww, thanks :D

Dburyboy12: I’m just sayin the truth. Any guy would be lucky to have you. Can I ask you something?

Toughmelt419: sure, wat?

Dburyboy12: wat would you do if I came to visit?

Toughmelt419: I don’t really know. Wat kind of question is that?

Dburyboy12: idk. Hey, I’m gonna go to the rec with my buddies. I’ll catch u later.

Toughmelt419: k, ttyl!

Dburyboy12 has signed off.

 

        I sat there in my seat confused. What was that question all about? Was he really thinking of coming to visit me? What would I do?
