        I got up off of the floor and headed over to my dorm hallway thing. “Darrin, why have you decided to call me now? In high school you were always a prick to me.”

        “I know I was, but I just,” he interrupted me.

        “I don’t want to hear it. You made high school hell for me. Making fun of me all the time. You have no idea how that felt,” I said, my voice starting to waiver.

        I swiped my ID card that let me into my hall and went up the stairs so I wouldn’t lose the call.

        “Melanie, I’m really sorry I did that. I wanted to apologize for all the times that I have been an ass to you, or ignored you. I just thought, well, I really don’t know what I was thinking back then.” He said with a laugh.

        “Oh what a surprise that is,” I replied sarcastically.

        “Hey! I’m actually being nice here, and now you’re giving me attitude. What gives?”

        I just laughed. “What goes around comes around. Otherwise known as karma. Okay, I’ll be nice now. So what did you want to talk about? Did you really just want to apologize?”

        “Yeah, pretty much. And to see what you’ve been up to these days.”

        “I’ve done the normal college thing. Explored campus, some places off campus, and done a little partying.” I said.

        “Partying? Melanie Tanders partying? Now this I don’t know if I believe. You were always one of the good girls.” He said with hint of amusement in his voice.

        I checked my door and it was locked, so I unlocked my door and went inside my room and sat on my bed. That must mean that Joyce and Kim were either visiting Ashley or were in Noah’s room. “I really have partied, you can ask some of my friends here. I even surprised myself when I did that.”

        “I would never have guessed. I have to see this someday,” he said.

        “Oh really now?” I asked as I opened up my laptop to check my things. I signed on to my aim and there was no one particularly interesting on that I wanted to talk to.

        “Really. I wanted to see what you’re like when you’re drunk. Are you mean, or really funny?” he asked, with more interest than I thought necessary.

        “Neither. After a few shots of Vodka, I am super calm. I thought I would be one of those people who act stupid and stuff, but I’m not.” I said while taking off my drenched zap-zone shirt.

        I heard a muffled damn come from the phone. Why would he care how I act when I’m drunk?

        “Well, sometime when you come back from that place up north, you have to come party with me and the group.”

        “I don’t know about that. I like spending time with my friends when I go back home. We’ll just have to see how my time works out and everything.” I said putting on a dry shirt.

        “I see then. Well, if you change your mind, call me, or message me or something. I think you know how to get a hold of me. I have to go. Some of the guys here at Kent and I are having a poker game tonight. I’ll talk to you later Mel.”

        “Yeah, bye Darrin. It was nice talking to you.” And with that, we hung up.

        Talking to him brought back all my old feelings. I laid down on my bed and thought about the strange phone call. If he wanted to apologize, why didn’t he just message me instead of calling? He always confused me!

Throughout high school, I always liked him. It was last year when I finally realized that I was actually in love with him. Even though he would never talk to me, or he would find some way to make fun of me. I would even try to IM him, and he would never write back, even when I wished him happy birthday. I could never stop thinking about him or seem to dislike him, except for the fact that he was a jerk to me. My nickname for him was the “jackass.” Harsh, I know, but it was the truth.

        He was the quarterback of the football team, and one of the hottest guys in the school. He would only date girls if they were pretty or hot. I hate guys like that.

        But this call left questions inside me. Do I still like him? Did he really call to apologize, or was there some other motivation behind it? I was still lying there lost in my thoughts when I received another call. This was from Tyler.

        I had totally forgotten that I was supposed to call him, since we still needed to talk about was has been going on.

        “Hey there,” I said as I answered the phone.

        “Hey,” he replied. “Is everything alright? You sound kind of down.”

        “Yeah. I was just lost in thought about some things.”

        “Lost in thought about what kind of things?” he asked suspiciously.

        “They were about the phone call that I just got before coming up here,” I said.

        “Oh yeah, the phone call. Who was it that you were talking to?” he demanded.

        Gosh he was being pushy! What does he need to know for? “It was a guy that I went to high school with. Why do you care?”

        “Melanie, it’s only because I care for you. Wait, a guy you went to high school with?”

        He could be so dense sometimes. “Yes, someone I went to high school with. And obviously you don’t care for me that much if you have a hard time choosing between Dave and me.” I almost shouted.

        “Melanie, that’s not fair.” He started.

        “No Tyler, it’s not fair to me that you keep kissing me and not doing anything about it, since you can’t choose between me or Dave. I’m sick of it! Why don’t you do me a favor and just choose Dave, unless you think that you’ll be sad without me around, because as of now, I am not going to see you as much, so I can try to stop myself from thinking of you.” I said.

        “Could you just let me explain?” Tyler asked with hurt in his voice.

        “Tyler, I’m in no mood to listen right now. If you try in a couple days or so, I might be in a better mood to listen. But right now I’m too confused, and I don’t need you to make it worse. Good night Tyler,” I said as I hung up.

        I let out a loud sigh of frustration and flung myself back on my bed again. Why do guys have to be so confusing?

        I decided to go and check out my myspace when I saw that I had a new message on there. And surprise surprise, it was from Darrin. What could he possibly want now?

        I opened it up and laughed to myself when I saw what it read. “Hey Mel, it was really nice talking to you tonight. We should talk more often. You still have my aim, right? Well, I forgot to ask you one question. Do you have a bf or anything now? TTYL!”

        Wow, he was so curious. What in the world is he up to, and why would he care if I had a boyfriend or not? He seriously has some issues.

        I turned on the TV and watched it a bit until Kim and Joyce came in. We sat there and talked for a long time. We played a little bit of guitar hero 3 and then headed to bed, well at least I did anyways, since I had a class at 9:30 the next day. I started off into sleep, thinking about the day, mixed with thoughts of Darrin. What nice dreams they were.
