            On our walk to DC1, we were quiet for most of the way over there, though he did hold my hand. In fact, as soon as we got outside, he made a grab for it. His hand was just big enough that mine fit perfectly into his. A fact that I tried really hard to ignore, so I could focus on what he was saying at the moment.

        The next thing that I knew, there we were, standing outside the doors of DC1. He held open the door for me. “After you, mademoiselle,” he said giving a bow.

        I just had to laugh at that, for it was just too cute. We went up the stairs and stood in the line to have our ID’s swiped so we could get our meals. I would explain all this too you, but we have this meal plan system here at EMU, and it’s really hard to explain, so I won’t bother. It would just take too much time anyways. 

       So, we got our cards swiped, then went and chose what we wanted to eat. At DC1, it’s like a buffet. You can choose whatever you want, and however much you want. And each night they have different selections. Except on Fridays, they always have grilled cheese. But I think that’s the only thing they always repeat.

        After we had our plates filled with what we wanted, we went to find somewhere to sit. We went to the other end of the room and sat down in a booth. I love sitting in booths! They are so much fun! They are just so comfortable. We then went and got our drinks.

         As soon as we sat back down, I removed my jacket. I looked over at Jack, and he was just staring at me. I waved my hand in front of his face. “Hello? Jack? Is everything okay?” I asked.

        He snapped out of his trance and shook his head. “Yeah, everything is okay. It’s just that, you look really beautiful Melanie,” he said, looking into my eyes.

        I had to look away and blush. That was the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me, no matter how corny it may be at the moment. You never know, guys could just say things like that to get into a girl’s pants.

        We just sat there and ate for five minutes in complete silence. We were both really hungry and wanted to get some food into our stomachs before we began to talk.

        “Ok, I am really curious. Where are you from?” he asked taking a bite of his salad.

        I laughed. “Wow, what a way to open up a conversation,” I said sarcastically.

        He just gave a shrug and took another bite. “I know it was corny, but that was the first thing that came to my mind. And now that it’s out there, I really want to know.”

        I took a bite of my food, and let him sit there for a minute. It’s so fun to make people wait. “Well, I’m from this small town in Ohio that you have most likely never heard of.”

        He gave me a look of amazement. “Oh really? I’m from Ohio too. Try me,” he said as he set his chin defiantly.

        “I definitely doubt you’ve ever heard of it. So tell me Jack, have you ever heard of Newbury?” I asked staring at him, expecting him to crumble.

        But that is not what happened. He just erupted in a fit of laughter. “Newbury? You’re from Newbury? Wow, that is pathetic. No wonder you went so far away,” he said between fits of laughter, pretending to wipe a tear away from his eyes.

        I was offended! Who was he to call Newbury pathetic? “Hey mister! Who are you to call Newbury pathetic? Besides, it was only our football team that was pathetic.”

        “Well, it so happens that I am from Burton, so I went to Berkshire, and we beat your sorry buts all the time!” he said.

        I was flabbergasted. He was from Burton? No way. I can’t believe what a small world it is! I never knew that anyone else who lives so close went here. You see, Newbury and Burton are neighboring townships, and our two schools were basically rivals, although they beat us most of the time.

        “You know what this means, don’t you?” I asked him.

        “No, what does it mean?” he asked, gazing at me questioningly.

        “It means that we can’t be friends,” I said with a gleam in my eyes.

        “Why you,” he said getting up to come around to my side of the table to tickle me. “Take it back,” he said as he went for my sides.

        I was just about to say never when I heard an “ahem” very close to us. I looked over and saw Joyce and Noah standing there with their eyebrows raised. 

       “Hi there!” I said sitting up and moving the hair out of my face. “What are you guys up to?” I asked nonchalantly.

        “We decided to come here for dinner. Do you mind if we join you?” said Joyce.

        For some reason, I felt relief when she asked that. “Go ahead, there’s plenty of room,” I said sliding Jack’s tray over to my side.

        Opposite us, Joyce slid in first, followed by Noah. They really are such a cute couple. Noah is so good to her. I wish I could find such a guy. Well, maybe Jack is that guy.

        “We weren’t interrupting anything, were we?” asked Noah. 

       “No, you weren’t. Funny story actually,” I said. “It turns out that we live in the same area, and that our schools were rivals. And since they were rivals, I told Jack that we couldn’t be friends anymore, of which I was joking, but then he decided to go in for a tickle attack to change my mind,” I said giving him a playful punch in the shoulder.

        “I see,” said Joyce and Noah and unison.

        We were just about to go back to eating when I realized that I was up against the wall of the booth being blocked in by Jack. “Um Jack? Could you please switch places with me? I’m partially claustrophobic, and being by the wall doesn’t help.” I pleaded.

        “Sure,’ he said as he slid out of the booth. I followed behind and waited for him to sit back down first before I sat down.

        “Thank you,” I said as I gave him a pat on the head.

        Just as I was about to take a bite out of my food, I noticed that there was someone standing at the edge of the table. I looked over, and to my horror, Tyler was standing there.

        “Do you mind if I join you guys?” he asked.

        My brain wasn’t functioning properly. I wasn’t mad at him anymore, but my heart still felt as if it had been smashed into a million tiny pieces. I couldn’t handle him here. But, I heard Jack say, “Go ahead! The more the merrier!”

        So, I ended up sitting in between Jack and Tyler. He said hi to everyone, but I could only mumble a “hi” in response.

         My mind was numb. How could this possibly be happening? I was mulling over what to do when I felt a hand on my leg. It was Jack. He was rubbing my thigh. He gradually got higher and higher. The higher he got, the more uncomfortable I felt next to him. I put my hand over his and removed it. He gave me a questioning look, but I just returned it with a stern glare.

          Five minutes had passed, and I tried to pay attention to the conversation that was going on around me, but I couldn’t follow it at all, due to how I felt. I was beginning to be able to understand some of what they were saying until I once again felt a hand on my leg.

        I thought that it was Jack again, but then I noticed that it was on the opposite leg, and that it was Tyler’s hand. He was taking his thumb and rubbing it in a circle on the spot just above my knee. Then he started up my leg, making even bigger circles. The weird thing was, that it felt so good, and I didn’t want him to stop. It felt so comfortable.

        How does he always do that to me? I want to be mad at him, or just stay away from him, but he somehow finds a way through it. I just wanted to grab him and kiss him senseless, but I couldn’t. For one, I was here with Jack, and two, Tyler says that he likes someone else.

        But if that’s the case, then why is he touching me like this? I was so confused. I just wanted to get out of there and be by myself for a while so I could think things out. It was all so confusing.

        I put my hand on top of his as to remove it, but he grabbed my hand, and then started playing with my fingers. I turned to him to give him a death glare, but he was completely oblivious. I went to move my hand out of his grasp, but at that moment he decided to lace our fingers again.

        I tried not to notice how our fingers fit perfectly together. It felt just right. “Your hands were made to fill in his!” my mind told me. But I quickly shook off the thought. “What in the WORLD are you thinking? You’re here with Jack! Besides, Tyler told you to forget about that kiss, didn’t he? Now do something about it!” my brain tried to reason.

        But yet, I didn’t want to do anything about it. “Face it girl, you’ve got it bad for him. Some would even say that you are in love with him,” my inner voice said.

        It hit me. I was shocked. There was no way that I could possibly be in love with Tyler, could I?
