Remedy: Chapter Two

John’s whole life began to flash before his eyes, mostly of his 8th grade year.  He ran past the sleeping clones to what may be his death.  John could hear his girlfriend and friends screaming for him to come back but he was oblivious to it.  He simply didn’t want to lose them, too.                He was nearing the entrance to the gym.  John could see Kaleb standing, waiting for him.  Hand on his katana, him walked in.                “Ah…you’re just as stupid as I thought.  Coming alone…wow.  Well, I guess I need to be fair.” Kaleb walked over to John, almost past him until he stopped. “Come on, now.  Let’s see what you’ve got.”                John drew his katana, swung it around at Kaleb’s head.  Kaleb dodged and knocked John’s katana from his hand in his own. “Just as I thought.” Kaleb charged the katana at John, barely missing him.                “Oh, no you don’t, Kaleb.” Jessie said as she ran into the room, followed by Daren, Sean, Aaron, Joey, Bree, Jesse, and Nachelle.                Jessie ran over to John, who was lying on the ground. “You won’t touch him.” She drew his Sais. “I will kill you.” She swung at Kaleb, only hitting the wall that was behind him.  When she went to turn around, she felt the cold steel at her throat. “Just like your little lover boy…you’re weak and stupid.” Kaleb slit Jessie’s throat and crimson covered her t-shirt.“I will…come back.” Jessie croaked as she slumped to the ground at Kaleb’s feet.“I bet you will, you little bitch.” Kaleb turned to John. “Now, where were we?” His eyes were now red.
“How could you?!  You’ll pay for that!” Daren yelled and ran at Kaleb.  Kaleb just slammed him into a wall with ease.  He fell to the ground, hard, now unconscious. “Anymore testimonies?” Kaleb said, angrily.
Jessie transferred her soul to John’s body right before Kaleb tried to kill her.  Now she was floating above the scene.  John was in trouble now, Kaleb was going for him.  She put up a barrier around him with a lot of what was left of her energy.  Then Jessie healed the cut across her throat so she could repossess it.
“Hope you enjoy this surprise, bloody sonofabitch.” Jessie whispered to herself as she entered her body again.
“DAMN THAT GIRL!” he screamed.  Kaleb was trying to finish his enemy off but something invisible was blocking him. “She’s still ALIVE!”“You bet…” a voice came from Jessie’s body.  It stood and all of a sudden, everyone figured it was her ghost.  Jessie’s eyes were black, her face a ghostly white.  She walked over to where John was and kissed him.  Then walked over to Kaleb and grabbed his shoulders. “You should’ve thought this over…”“Yeah…so should you.” Kaleb threw John’s own katana, with great skill, at John.  The barrier was down and it hit John’s chest.  It left a gapping wound in his side.“JOHN!” Jessie screamed, pushing Kaleb away to run to John.  She knelt down beside him. “Stay with me!  Please!” His eyes were fluttering.“You…have to kill…him.” John spoke, pointing to Kaleb.“Oh, yes, Jessie.  You have to kill me, but you…don’t have the guts.” Kaleb grinned down at the couple.                John closed his eyes, taking in one last breath. “J-J-John, don’t…die on me!” Tears streamed down Jessie’s face.
Daren stood, watching helplessly.  The fight was over.  Daren ran at Kaleb with full force, in one more attempt to help Jessie.  Kaleb blocked it and, without even looking at Daren, stabbed him in the gut.  A look of shock filled Daren’s eyes.  The blade stuck out of his back.  He was dead, almost instantly.
“DAREN!!” Jessie cried out.  She ran to stand in front of the others. “Don’t you touch them…  I swear…I will kill you, Kaleb!” Kaleb stepped forward. “Back the fuck OFF!” Jessie screamed at him.                “You couldn’t harm a fly, Jessica.  We’ve all known this since 8th grade.  Oh, do you remind John’s strange disappearance?  It was because of me.  Remember?  I sent him the note, offering to have him visit.  I asked him to join me in taking over the world, controlling it all!  And he refused!  Do you know why?!  You.  You and you little mind games!  You took my friend.  You foiled my plans.  You fucking bitch!” Kaleb yelled at Jessie, and swung the blood-covered katana down at her.                Jessie realized that he was trying to get her guard down and grabbed for her Sais.  A little too late, but Jessie heard a clash of metal.  Sean drew his sword and blocked the strike. “I think not.”                “Sean, my friend, that’s not a good idea.” Kaleb smiled, knocking the sword from Sean’s hand, disarming him.
Jessie stabbed her blade up into Kaleb’s chest and flipped him back away. “Fuck off!”
Bree and Joey watched as Kaleb fell to the ground, blood pooled around him.  Yet, he was not dead.  Kaleb grabbed the Sais sticking out of his chest and grinned at Jessie.  Black fog began to pour from the wound in his chest.  It drifted over to Sean, Bree, Lilli, and Joey, covering them.  They began to wince in pain as it burned into their skin.                “NO!  Run and get the hell out of this place!  Kaleb, please, let them live!  You took enough!” Jessie grabbed Kaleb by his coat, shaking him with all her strength. “LET THEM GO!                “Sorry, Hon.  I don’t have that power anymore.” Kaleb laughed, happily. “By the way, hope you have a nice life.”                Jessie’s eyes lit with fury, sorrow, hate.  She grabbed the katana that killed her boyfriend and stabbed it through Kaleb’s heart.  She slashed at him in anger.  Blood drenched her shirt.  The blood covering her face made the tears that rolled down her cheeks turn red, like she was crying blood.  All at once, it hit Jessie.  The people around her, her friends were dead.  All of them, gone, never to be by her side again.  She hit the ground, up against the wall, beside John’s lifeless body.
“Why?  Why does it have to be so hard?” Jessie asked herself. “I had the way to stop this…and I failed?” She broke into tears and laid her head against John’s shoulder.  For a moment, she thought she was back in 8th grade, with him, sitting in the hallway before class, just being idiots.  There was a 9mm. sitting to her left.  She reached for it, gripping cold barrel in her hand.  Jessie looked at it wondrously.  She grabbed John’s hand and raised the point to her head.  Tears rolled down her kissed.  Jessie kissed John’s lips; they were ice cold. “I should’ve known…  You didn’t get to say goodbye, John, but I will.  I love you, too.” Jessie’s fingers shook but Jessie gained control and pulled closer and closer on the trigger. “See you in hell, Kaleb.” She whispered.  Then there was a flash of white light, and nothing.
“Jessie!  Jessie!” a voiced called.  Jessie felt someone or something shaking her.  Was John alive?  No.  It was something else.                “What do you want from me?!” she yelled back.                “JESSICA!” they yelled again. “JESSICA RENEE’ FROMHOLZ!  Wake up!  It’s just a dream!”                “Who?  Wait.  What?” Jessie opened her eyes to a blurred face.  It was Emma, her little sister.  She was all dressed for school, light blond hair, blue eyes, dressed in a blue preppy jersey and blue jeans.  Emma had a look of panic on her face.                “Jess!  Get up and get ready for school, big idiot!  It’s graduation day!” Emma yelled.                “Ugh…stop yelling!” she replied.                “Then get moving.  Left, right, left.”                Jessie got up and headed for the bathroom.  Looking into the mirror she saw a terrible bad hair day but she was a brownish blond with grey eyes.  She wore black pajamas with pink, white, and lime green skulls.  Jessie looked at herself, remembering that nightmare, wondering if she should tell John about it.
