Remedy: Chapter One

“Get ready! Arm yourselves! The school’s coming up fast!” Daren yelled commands to the bus load of people. Sean was going over 100. “Slow down, Sean, before you get us all killed!” He began to hit the brakes as he entered the parking lot; still completely torn apart, the school was dark and there was an eerie feeling to the air. Daren jumped out of the moving bus and headed after John and Jessie. Joey and the others followed his move. As Joey got closer to Daren, he called out, “Daren! Where are they?!” “Good question! When I find out, you’ll be the first person I tell!” he replied, sarcastically. They ran up to the school. The people left to fight were; Daren, Sean, Joey, Bree, Nachelle, Jesse, Katie, Aaron, April, Lilli, and of course, John and Jessie; where ever they were. As the group entered the school, violent fight began between four clones and Jesse, April, Katie, and Aaron. “Go on ahead and stop those two!” Aaron yelled, motioning for them to hurry. He swung the spear-like sword Daren gave him at one clone, ripping it straight down the middle. Aaron spun around to face another clone, stabbing it in the face. Blood erupted on to Aaron’s shirt, drenching him in red. The four of them stood so they had each other’s backs as more clones entered. The other group ran off to find John and Jessie. One clone had April cornered, about to rip her to shreds when Katie came up, blocking its strike. The clone took Katie down. Its boney fingers wrapped tight around her neck, squeezing the life out of her. April stood, dumb-struck with fear as the creature revealed sharp fangs and slit Katie’s throat. It rose with crimson liquid dripping from its boney, lifeless-looking face and stared at April. Walking closer to her it almost grinned, grabbing her shirt, pinning her to the wall. “April!” Jesse screamed as he ran over to the clone. He started to punch it but its grip only got tighter. Finally, there was the sound of bones cracking as it broke April’s neck. She slumped to the ground lifelessly. The creature, no longer resembling a clone, turned on Jesse. He was stricken with sorrow, fear, and hate as he stared down at his love. All of a sudden, his anger caused him to lunge at the beast, clawing at its eyes fiercely. He blinded it as it swung around aimlessly trying to get Jesse off of him. Jesse saw the sword come crashing down on its back, cutting it in half, so he let go and fell to the floor.
“Get out of here, NOW, Jess!” Aaron yelled as he retreated from the clones. Jesse stood there for a moment, looking at Katie and then to April. He bent down and gave her a kiss, swearing he’d get revenge. “NOW, I said!” Aaron yelled again. “I won’t leave you behind to die!” He ran over to Jesse, grabbing his arm and dragged him away. As they went, tears streamed down both of their faces.
“JOHN! THERE’S ANOTHER WAY!!” Jessie screamed a blood curdling cry as John continued to run ahead. He wasn’t far from their destination now and she was gaining on him. John didn’t even glance back, only running on, trying to speed up. Then all of a sudden, John stopped. Jessie stopped, too because in front of him was a mass mob of sleeping clones. They looked sturdier than ever. John drew one of Daren’s katana, ready to charge through the mess. Jessie wouldn’t let him do it. She came up to his side and slipped her hands around his waist. “No.” He stood there for a moment, seeming completely numb to her. When he finally spoke, Jessie felt a chill. “Yes, there is no choice…” He turned and faced Jessie. Looking down at her he added, “You need to get out of here…and get everyone else to leave, too. I’m sorry.” As he went to give her a kiss goodbye, she turned her head. “No…no! There is another way, okay?! We can find another way!” she screamed. “Jess-I…no we can’t. It’s over…we’re finished unless I do something about it, okay?” “No, John, it’s not okay.” Daren walked up, followed by Sean, Nachelle, Joey, and Bree. “We are in this together.” Sean added. “Fight to the death…together!” Joey joined in happily. “Yeah.” Bree and Nachelle said, almost in unison. “But…I don’t want you all to die.” John hung his head in shame. Daren came over and pat him on the shoulder. “Tell me, John. What do you think would be worse for us; to lose you and have to spend the rest of our lives in depression, especially Jessie…or die by your side as a hero? I think both Jessie and I like the second choice.” Daren said, smiling at his friend and putting his other arm around Jessie, bringing them together. John shook his head, sighing. “No, no. I’ve caused enough pain to the people I love. I’m not going to lose Jessie or anyone else because of my own stupidity!” He turned to Jessie. “I love you. Now, please, don’t follow me, just get out of here.” John began to walk away when Jessie grabbed his arm. “No! Please!” she pleaded. He simply shook her hands off as he ran. “John!” “Don’t follow me this time.” Jessie watched in silence as John ran down the hall. Her eyes started to water and she hit the floor. The prediction was coming true… Comments
