The Final Chapter...ch.3, part 2
|
7 months later
"Wait, Pat! I'll get the door for you!", Frank called as he ran to the front door and flung it open.
"Thanks", Pat responded. "My hands ARE kinda full", she smiled as she looked down at her new baby boy.
"He's so beautiful", Frank smiled as he closed the door behind him and looked over Pat's shoulder.
"He looks SO much like you, Frank.. and look! He has yor eyes", she said as she held the baby in her arms.
She went over to the sofa and sat down, still holding the baby and was joined by Frank who sat next to her.
"My sweet little Brandon", Pat said as she rocked the baby in her arms.
"He's so precious", agreed Frank as he took the baby's hand and kissed it.
"Look. He's yawning!", Pat smiled.
"He must be tired. Maybe we should take him to the nursery and lay him down in his crib."
"That's a good idean, Frank", said Pat as she slowly stood up and made her way down the hallway towards the nursery.
She lay Brandon down in his crib, covering him with a tiny blanket which she had bought for him.
By this time, Brandon had closed his little eyes and was already fast asleep.
Pat quietly exited the room, turning off the light and leaving the door slightly open in case he cried.
Frank, who had been waiting outside the door of teh nursery, placed his hand on Pat's shoulder and followed her to the kitchen where she poured two glasses of soda.
"Here Frank", she said as she offered him a glass.
"Thanks", he replied as he sat down at the kitchen table with his wife. "You know, we should probably invest in coffee. I think here pretty soon, we'll need it!", he joked.
Patricia laughed, which brought a smile to Frank's face. He always felt so pleased when he was able to make his wife smile. "So, have you decided on whether or not you're going back to work or if you're going to stay home with the baby?", Frank asked, changing the subject.
"Well, I think I'll go back to work. We're going to need the extra income. But, doctor's orders.. I have another 6-8 weeks for that.", she smiled, actually feeling relieved to have the break. "That reminds me, don't let me forget to call the college this afternoon so I can get back in the swing with my journalism class".
"Whoa.. don't you think you're taking on too much too soon? I mean, you just left the hospital from having a baby this morning! Remember?? That was only an hour ago. You're taking on too much!"
"No, I'll be fine. I don't want to end up having this semester be a waste because I couldn't my newborn AND class. It'd be a waste of 4 months!"
"Well, maybe you're right", Frank agreed. "In that case, I'll do my best.. I mean, to remind you.", he smiled.
"Wow", she said as she sighed deeply and pushed her glass to the side of the table. "We have a son! I just cant believe it!"
"Me neither", said Frank. "I still haven't quite come to terms with reality yet."
"I totally agree. He's so perfect though", she said feeling the tears crawl down her face. "His little hands are so.. little! And when he looks at me with those big blue eyes, my heart just melts.. you have NO idea how it feels to have this small life insid you and then to actually MEET the face that's been hiding for mine months.. it's so.. wonderful!", she said finally as she wiped away her tears.
"I've dreamt about that face for so long and now it's here and it's so perfect."
