"Thank you SOOO much Nikki for helping me get ready tonight", Pat said to her fourteen-year-old sister. "Sure sis. Anytime", Nikki responded.

"Well, I just heard the doorbell, Pat. That must be him!", Nikki smiled. "You look great!" "Thanks, Nikki. Are you sure I'm not under or over-dressed?", Pat asked nervously. "You said you were going to the movies, right?", Nikki asked. "Right", Pat responded. "Well, most people wear jeans and tee shirts to movies. At least everyone I know desses like that. Just relax!" "I'll try", Pat said, trying desperately to reassure herself.

"Patricia!! Come on down here! Your friend is here", her mother yelled from downstairs.

"Well, here goes nthing, Nikki", Pat smild. "Everything will be fine. You'll see." "I hope you're right, Nikki. I hope you're right."

She exited her room with Nikki following close behind her as she strolled down the stairs, her hands nervously trembling.

"Hey Pat", Frank said as she approached him. "You look great. Ready to go?"

"Yeah, I'm ready", she whispered, relieved to see his jeans and baggy sweatshirt. "Ok, then. Let's go", he smiled. "Yes, let's", she smiled back.

His big blue eyes fell upon her mysterious, hazel eyes as he cautiously openedthe door and gestured her towards the porch. Leading the way, she waited as he closed the door, then started to his car.

Walking slowly towards his fire-engine, red-colored mustang, he felt the sudden urge to make conversation.

"So, you like horror flicks?!", he laughed. "Yeah, I love them. There's nothing in the world like a good scare!", she smiled, beginning to relax a little. "Yeah, I know what you mean", Frank said, opening the car door for Pat.

"Thanks", she smiled. "You're very welcome, pretty lady", he smiled.

She got in the car and watched Frank round the front of the car and get in himself on the driver's side.

"This is a totally awesome car, Frank." "Thanks. My dad bought it for me on my sixteenth birthday.", Frank replied. "Cool! Some birthday present! Is your dad a pilot or something?!", she asked.

"No, he's a doctor. Well, a surgeon actually, but you get the idea", he replied.

"Well, it was still a nice gesture". "Yeah, my dad's cool", he said, starting the car. "Obviously!! Did your mom help him pick out the car?", she asked. He hesitated, then said, "Umm, no. Mom's been dead for fifteen years.. she died in labor when she was having Melissa", he said quietly.

"I'm so sorry, Frank. I had no idea!" "Oh, I'm ok with it and everything. I don't remember her, but I wish I would've gotten the chance to get to know her", he frowned. "But, let's not allo some incident that happened years ago mess up this night, ok?", he asked. "Ok", Pat agreed.

He sat quietly, thinking about the conversation he just had with Pat.  Knowing that she was probably feeling uneasy about what they had talked about, Frank decided to completly change the subject and try to lighten things up a little.

"So, who do you have for spanish three?", Frank asked. "What?", she asked, surprised by his sudden urge to change the subject. "Who do you have for spanish three?", he repeated.

"Mr.. uh, Mr...", she thought, forgetting the name of the teacher. "Mr. Jacobs?", Frank asked, attempting to finish her sentence.

"Yeah! Tha'ts it.", she replied, relieved that Frank had known the teacher. "Did you have him last year, Frank?"

"Yep, sure did!", he answered. "So, what's he like?", she asked. "Well, he's usually pretty cool as long s you liten and pay attention."

"I think I can handle that!", Pat said, knowingly. "Yeah, you SHOULD be able to handle it!"

"Are you able to sign up for any clubs or anything like that?", Frank asked. "Yeah, the principal said it wasn't too late for that". "So, what clubs are you signing up for?", he asked.

"Probably the booster club, SADD club, and pep club", she answered. "Cool. I'm in SADD so I guess I'll see you there." "I guess so", she smiled.

"Oh, and I'm also trying out for heerleader next week", she said. "Whoa! Is there anything you CAN'T do?!", he asked somewhat sarcastically as he pulled into the parking lot at the movie theater.

"Well, I can't do my chores without complaining!", she laughed as she opened the car door to get out. "Neither can I", Frank said as he reached his arm around her back to guide her across the parking lot to the theather.

"Hey, Patricia", yelled a voice from behind. She turned to see Melanie calling and waving at her.

"I'll go pay for the tickets", Frank whispered in Pat's ear. "Ok", she agreed.

"Hi, Pat! How are you?", Melanie smirked. "I'm fine", Pat answered. "So, who are you here with, Mel?", asked Pat. "My sister", she answered. "We're gonna see 'Paradise Sands'. What are you gonna see?"

"We're seeing 'Vicious Vampires part III'", Pat answered. "Oh, I really wanted to see that one and parts I and II, but mom said it'd give me nightmares", she complained. "Sorry", Pat said.

"That's ok", Melanie said reassuringly."She's probably right! Besides, it's not like YOU'RE going to be watching much of the movie anyway", she teased.

"I got the tickets!", Frank said as he approached Pat and Melanie. "Ready to go in, Pat?", he asked. "Yeah, I'm ready", she smiled. "Let's go."

                                                               After the movie....

"You know, that movie was the scariest movie I've seen in a looooong time!", Pat said on the way home from the theater.

"I know what you mean! Did you see that part when the Head Vampire started flying around in circles over the city and flew into the top window in that big building?!", he asked. "Yeah, I saw that! Then, he snuck up behind the red-headed girl and bit her neck!! Yuck!! That was the most brutal neckbite I've ever seen in my entire LIFE!", she laughed.

"I couldn't agree more!", Frank smiled.

"Did you see that part when the twin vampires attacked the basketball player? I think that was when you went to the bathroom!!", Pat said.

"No," he said. "I don't think I saw that part, but it's probably because I was watching you.", he replied ashe pulled into Pat's driveway.

He turned off the keys, then unbuckled his seatbelt. "I'll walk you to your front door", he offered as he opened the car door.

He went to Pat's door, opening it for her, then walked slowly towards the porch, staring at the ground as he walked.

"You know, Pat.. I had a really great time tonight. Best night I've had in a long time", Frank said as he stepped onto the porch with Pat.

"I had a really good time, too", she whispered softly.

His eyes met hers as he lifted his hand to her face, caressing her cheek. He lowered his hands to hers and held them, patiently waiting for her to say or do something to respond to his touch.

She raised her hands to his face, letting go of his hands and gently rubbed his cheeks as he lifted his arms and grabbed her slender waist.

With eyes still locked on each other, he slowly leaned to her and kissed her soft, pink lips.

They stood there, kissing for what seemed like an eternity until Frank slowly began to pull away. He stood scross from her and held her tiny hands again, searching for the words to say, but couldn't find them. There wasn't anything either of them couldn've said to describe the feeling and emotion that went into that passionate kiss.

"I'll see you tomorrow at school", he finally said after catching his breath".

"Yeah, I'll see you tomorrow", she said. Still looking deeply into her eyes, he pulled her towards him again and held her in his arms.

"I can't wait until tomorrow", he whispered softly in her ear. "Me either", she agreed.

Slowly letting go, he grabbed her hand, kissing it, then walked to his car, feeling full of life as he got in and turned the keys.

Pat stood still there on the porch, breathless as she watched him pull off in his car and drive two houses down, pulling into his garage. She watched as the garage door closed and slowly strolled into her own house.
