The night was dark and dreary. The entire town of lack and the world seemed strikingly unimportant to the many citizens in the town who were sleeping soundly in their beds. Or at least, most of them.. the only exception falls on a small and lonely family on Rosedale Street..

"No, Daddy, no!!", screamed six-year-old, Brandon Cole. "Mommy!!", he continued to cry out, his tears flowing down his face.

Ignoring the desperate pleas from his son, Frank shoved his wife, Patricia to her knees. As she reached up towards him to push him away, Frank seized his opportunity and dodged her effort. Then, he drew back his hand and struck her across her face, sending her back against the floor. Determined to keep Pat from getting away, Frank sat on her stomach and pinned her against th living room floor.

Patricia kicked up her legs and tried to force her husband off her small body, but failed with every attempt. Almost ready to give up, she glanced to see the look of horror on her son's face and knew she had to protect Brandon. Even if protecting him meant from his own father! Though deep deown, she knew Frank loved Brandon, she knew she couldn't take a chance on her own son's life.

"Daddy! Please stop! You're hurting Mommy!!", Brandon called out again.

"Shut up, you little brat!", Frank yelled. Patricia, seeing the opportunity to shove him away in the midst of his distraction, kicked up her feet and pushed with all her might, sending Frank barreling into the wall.

Before Frank had a chance to get back on his feet, Pat ran over to their son to make an attempt to get him out of the situation and in the meantime, provide some help for herself.

"Brandon, listen to me. Go over to Randy's house next door. Get help for Mommy, okay? Stay there and don't.."

Frank had gotten up. He grabbed Patricia by the arm, his face getting redder as he spoke..

"How DARE you?! You think I don't know what you're talking about! Do you think I don't know what you're trying to do?!"

"Frank, I didn't.. I mean, I'm not.."

"Don't take that tone of voice me, Pat! Have you no respect for me? Who do you think you are and how dare you 'pretend'  to not know what I'm talking about?!"

Patricia cut Frank off in the middle of his speach in an attempt to reassure her son.

"Brandon, Mommy's okay. Just go to Randy's house next door and call the police and tell them taht.."

"Shut up, Pat! Just shut up!", Frank screamed.

"Frank, please! You're scaring Brandon", Pat pleaded. "Can't you just.."

"Don't tell me what to do, Pat! Yo've been telling me what to do for years and I'm sick of it! All you want to do is control my life!"

"Frank, I don't want to control your life! I just want.."

"Don't lie to me, Pat!"

"I'm not lying to you! I'm not! I just.."

"STOP IT!! Just stop it!! I can't take this anymore!", Frank yelled. "I won't have you stand there and lie to me n my face! Who do you think you are?"

He paused, impatiently waiting for Pat to answer him, but she knew she couldn't. She knew that it wasn't the truth he was looking for. It was an arguement. Determined not to give him what he wanted, for safety reasons reguarding Brandon, she just stood there with a blank look on her face and wondered how she'd lived with him for so long.
