The School Bus part 1

Horror Created on 6-25-07 Views(274) Story Rating G

It was just another day. It was 8:15 in the morning and the only thing on Tonya's mind was the argument she'd had with her parents before she left for school that morning. "What's their problem?", she growled as she turned to face her best friend, Libby. "I don't know girl. I thought MY parents were weird."

Tonya and Libby had been best friends since kindergarten and had always lived in the same neighborhoold, same houses they grew up in. Tonya's family were what you would call "well off". Her dad was a doctor, her mother a lawyer. They were hardly ever home unless it was in the morning to argue with Tonya and sometimes, her big brother Ty which was short for Tyson.

Tyson was 21 and still lived at home. He refused to go to college or work and was quite satisfied slumming it at home or inviting the Low Lifes over. That's what Tonya called them. Actually, they were Ty's circle of friends who were certain they were going to become famous rock stars someday but really they just made alot of noise in her parent's garage.

As for Libby, Tonya's bff, her parents owned a small restaurant and often had trouble just making ends meet. Libby was an only child so was used to getting her way all the time, even if her parents paid the price. Her mom was more stern than her father but that probably came from Libby's insistance on being daddy's little girl. She typically could get her father to buy her whatever she wanted, even if it meant putting her family in further debt over the bills and her parent's marriage were suffering from it. They argued constantly about what Libby should and shouldn't get.

"They just don't get it!", Tonya groaned. "I'm 17 years old! I need a car!". "Totally", Libby chimed in. "Then at least I could ride to school with you. My dad WANTS to buy me a car too but mom still says we can't afford it. Whatever!" "Well my parents," Tonya began, "CAN afford it but my dad's too afraid I'll end up like Ty and not go to college and just hang around the house all day. Geez, like me and Ty are two different people!" "Really!", Libby agreed. "Brothers should just be wiped off the face of the planet!", Tonya said.

Libby put her hands over her mouth to keep from bursting into laughter but she saw that Tonya was about to lose it at any minute. Just then, the two doubled over with laughter until they were wiping tears from their eyes. "Wait, there's the bus", Tonya said. "Good golly", Libby said sarcastically. "Another day on the ol' cheesewagon!" The girls laughed some more until the bus pulled up.

Libby got on first as she usually did and raced to the back to reserve their seats in the back of the bus. It's where they usually sat unless the other guys at their stop got there first so Libby made it a point to rush to the front of the line. It usually went off without  hitch. All the guys at their stop were in the same circle of friends and the so-called-leader had a major crush on Libby so he always let her in front of them. Tonya didn't have to worry about it so she cared less when she got on, knowing that Libby had their seats ready by the time she made her way on the bus.

They had gone a few miles down the road while Tonya and Libby constantly attacked the methods their parents used to raise them into "fine individuals". They always sat next to each other in the back and usually irritated the other kids and the driver with their constant bickering and laughter.

"Oh my gosh!", Tonya exclaimed suddenly. "There's a bridge coming up. I don't remember ever going over a bridge on the way to school." "How would you know?", Libby asked. "Like we ever pay attention to that stuff anyway!", she laughed, not thinking twice about the bus's route to school. "No, no, Libby. We're turning onto the interstate." "Interstate?", Libby asked somewhat alarmed. "No, we've never gone on the interstate", Libby remarked.

"Geez, would you two stop worrying", Derrick said from the seat in front of them. "They're probably doing some road work or something and it's just a detour. You guys should learn to relax!" "Maybe he's right", Libby said reassuringly seeing that her best friend was becoming more and more alarmed over the bus's new route to school. "Yeah, maybe." Tonya said, not sounding convinced. Just then, the bus began to pick up speed.

"Do you STILL think it's just a detour, genious?", she asked Derrick angrily and frightened at the same time. "Tonya, don't worry so much. They're supposed to go faster on the interstate. The speed limit's like 65.", Derrick said to Tonya, trying not to worry her further. Then, the bus began to pick up more speed. The kids in the front of the bus were beginning to panic and Tonya heard one of the kids say that they had reached 90 miles an hour. "What's happening?", Libby shrieked. "I don't know", Tonya cried, through tears. "I just don't know". The bus showed no signs of slowing down, but in fact seemed to be picking up more speed. The entire bus panicked.
