Broken Silhouettes [[11]]
|
Oh my God Oh my God Oh my God Oh my God--
Deni couldn’t think, she couldn’t breathe, she couldn’t do anything except stare into Taylor’s wide eyes as she let the phone tumble to the ground.
“What happened?” he asked, his chocolate eyes brimming with concern, but she couldn’t say anything except,
“I have to go home.”
“But your mom--aren’t you in trouble?”
She burst into tears. “No,” she managed to whisper. “No, I’m not in trouble with my mom.”
He didn’t say anything more, just led her out to his Delorean by the hand and drove her home in silence. Before she got out, though, he leaned over and kissed her softly.
“I want you to know,” he said quietly, “that no matter what happened, or ever happens, I’m here for you and you can talk to me about it.”
She nodded, biting her lip so hard she could taste the blood, and got out of his car. Slowly she made her way inside where she could see her father and Benny waiting for her. As she stepped through the door, she noted that this was the first time she had ever seen tears in her father’s eyes, and she let her own fall as she ran into his arms.
“Denise,” he murmured as he kissed her hair gently, “it wasn’t an accident.”
She pulled away slowly. “What?”
“The…wreck. It wasn’t an accident.”
She raised her eyes to his, her brow wrinkling in confusion. “What do you mean?”
“There was someone at the scene,” he continued, “another car. They had been hiding behind your mother’s vehicle when the police arrived. They found him there and questioned him; he said that he rammed the car off of the road and then completed the murder with a knife.”
His voice sounded so calm, casual even.
“There will be a trial,” he continued, “and you have been asked to testify.”
“What? Me?” She shook her head frantically. “Dad, I--I can’t.”
He went on as though she hadn’t spoken. “It’s for everyone’s good, but especially your mother’s memory. We can’t let this man do it again.”
“Dad--”
“Don’t argue with me,” he ordered, and his voice sounded so loud and so sad and so broken. “I won’t change my mind.”
She broke away from him, sobbing, and ran upstairs to her room.
Collapsing on the bed, she pulled a picture from her dresser drawer and fell asleep hugging it to her chest.
When she awoke, she rolled over absently.
Moments later she heard a crash.
Stifling a yawn, she leaned over to see what she had dropped, and saw her own face and her mother’s staring up at her in the midst of shattered glass from the floor, and it all came rushing back to her.
The wreck.
The kiss.
The trial.
How could her life be ruined overnight?
HEY YALLZZZZ.
SO I've decided NOT to continue with Tainted Memories. It's cliche (yeah yeah, don't rub it in Sheena) and you can pretty much tell it's no good if the author loses inspiration after one chapter. =]] SO. I WILL be posting a new one soon. It's a pretty brilliant plot [[if i do say so myself]] and I'm pretty excited to writeeee it. I may or may not have time to post it today, so if it's not up...just please read it next time I post you on this storyy. Plus I'm not sure what I'm going to call it yet..it came to me in a dream..<--haha it's not even cool how corny that sounds but that's what happened!
So anyways.
Pleaseee read it when it's posted.
