Conner

Dazed, he watched as Lish took off her sweatshirt. He waited for her to continue.

But she didn't.

Breathing a sigh of relief, he stared at the guy, who was saying something to her. Lish was shaking her head. Conner leaned back in his seat. That's my girl, he thought.

Two seconds later, he leaped up, rage flooding through him, as the guy attempted to tear Lish's clothes off. He jumped out of the car, anger spreading through his body rapidly, and burst into the building.

Lish turned to face him, tears and fright in her eyes. "Conner!" she cried, running to him. "Conner, I--"

"Shhh," he said softly. "Go out to my car, Lish. I'll take care of this guy."

"But--"

"Go," he repeated. Reluctantly she obeyed, and when she was gone, he turned to face the guy. He looked so much like Jack. But Conner knew with certainty that it wasn't him.

"Who are you?" he said in a low voice.

"I'm Jack," he answered coldly. "Why does everyone doubt that?"

"Because it's so clear that you're not Jack," Conner answered. "Jack loved Lish. He would never have hurt her, or tried to force her to do something that she didn't want to do."

"I didn't do either of those things," he snapped.

"Don't lie to me!" Conner yelled. "I saw the blood on the sidewalk where you two were supposed to meet. I saw you just now, trying to make her take her clothes off."

He shrugged coolly. "She wanted to. Lish loves me."

"No," Conner said quietly. "She doesn't."

A low, mocking voice emitted from the man's mouth. "What do you think? Do you think she loves you? Let me tell you something. During the time we've met today, I've kissed her. She's kissed me back. I told her I loved her, and although she didn't say it back, she didn't object. And she's wearing the ring."

Chills flooded his body. "What have you done to her?"

He stared at him strangely. "What are you talking about? I haven't done anything to her."

"Please," Conner whispered. "Tell me who you are. I won't...say anything."

"I'm Jack," the man said angrily. "Stop asking me who I am. I've told you."

"You're not Jack!" Conner shouted.

The man reached out and punched him. He staggered but didn't fall back; he hit the man as hard as he could, sending him flying backwards. Then he bent over, staring into his face. Shock rippled through him as he saw the black curls lying askew on his head; they were a wig. He reached down and plucked them off his head.

"Okay," he whispered. "Tell me who you are."

Under the wig, his hair was still black, but it was receding badly. He stared up at Conner with frightened eyes. "I..."

"Tell me," he ordered.

The man squeezed his eyes shut. "I'm...Jack's brother."

Lish

She stared into the building in horror as Jack hit Conner. Then she drew in her breath sharply as Conner hit Jack back...and sent him flying backwards.

What were they saying?

Conner was bending over Jack, talking to him. He reached down; it looked as though he was going to stroke his head. But then he plucked off the black mane on Jack's head.

Oh, my God.

Who was he?
