Morning was approaching. Rosalie blinked irritably in the unwelcome light.
"I know. You'll have a realitively high sensitivity to light for the first few years. But you'll get used to light...really all you need to be aware of is direct exposure to the sun. Sixty six seconds in the sun will kill you." Justin whispered.
"Yikes." Rosalie murmured., looking up at the pink sky, tinged with yellow and purple. Sitting on Justin's back she stared at the blurry green wall that was a forest as she and Justin flitted past it.
"Justin?"
"Yeah?"
"What is Pariseus like?"
Justin hesitated slightly before answering. "She is the oldest living vampire. Her personality is odd. She's a control freak. She's pretty in her own way, but not sweetly and innocently pretty like you. Pariseus is more like....deceitfully pretty."
"Oh." Rosalie answered. Pariseus sounded scary. She wondered what would happen to them if they got off on the wrong foot with her. The thought of what could happen made her tremble.
Rosalie and Justin continued on in silence for a while longer. Rosalie caught herself staring at his messy black hair and wondering what it would be like to run her fingers through it. Thinking of it made her tingle. She was shocked to find herself fantasizing about him...this wasn't her...she just didn't do that. Blushing, she realized that he was looking at her over his shoulder.
"What?" She asked defensively, looking down at the base of his neck.
"You were staring." Justin accused.
"No I wasn't."
"Whatever you say..." Justin smiled and looked forward again.
Rosalie closed her eyes and pressed her face into the space between his shouder blades. For about another hour they flitted on, until suddenly they stopped.
"Rosalie?" Justin whispered.
"Huh?" Rosalie was dragged out of a fantasy involving her, Justin, and a lot of thinking.
"We're here."
Rosalie screamed and jumped off of his back, landing face first on pavement.
They were standing in a filthy alley with graffiti coated brick walls looming up in the darkness on either side of them. A dumpster's aroma filled their noses and gagged them with the sour stink of rot. Sparse light from a lonely street lamp on the road was barely illuminating the alley. Rosalie looked up at Justin from her seat on the ground and saw him crouching over an open manhole set in the middle of the pavement. He was holding the lid in one hand and he beckoned Rosalie with the other. He motioned for her to go down, and she scurried over and obeyed.
Darkness surrounded them, and Rosalie heard the sound of a match being struck. Justin's face was illuminated next to her. "Hey, see if you can find the torch." He said tensely.
Rosalie looked up and down the walls, feeling them when she met darkness and found nothing. Slightly erotic, she whispered "Nothings here."
"Uh, really?" Justin's voice quavered, Rosalie grinned in victory, but only because he couldn't see her.
"Light another match. I'll be over there soon." She called.
She began walking with small, sexy steps, hoping he would find it attractive. Abruptly her foot struck something, and she fell face first into a puddle of something that she hoped was water.
"Rosalie, are you alright?!" Justin was instantly at her side to help her up .
"Owwww. " She whined. "I think I am...yeah I am....but what did I trip over?" She looked behind her, and by the light of Justin's match she saw the torch. "I found it!" She cried.
"Haha. Nice." Justin laughed as he lit it.
Finally with some light, they walked together through a maze of dark tunnels.
"Helloooooooo?!" Rosalie called "Anybody here?"
"Yes." came a cold female voice from Justin's right. "Justin, I never expected to see you here again....our fifty years of separation hasn't changed you. Also, might I ask who this pretty little thing is?"
"Hello Pariseus." Justin greeted the vampress.
Rosalie hadn't moved. Now she turned slowly to face her new potential enemy.
To be continued.
