The Bustling City Of New York Scene One Act One

F.D. (Ch.14)

It was cold in the Dome. Lord Shavor had left and Queen Andréa sat just outside of it, seeing the deserted view of nothing, waiting for her daughter. She looked down at her trembling hands. It wasn’t so supposed to be this way. A tear fell from her eye.

“Hello, mother.” There was the familiar sound of clinking glasses. Queen Andréa gazed at the woman before her, puffs of loose wolf hair flying in the wind. Her daughter was wearing long, gray pants, and a spaghetti strap shirt.

“I see your style has changed.” She murmured.

“Oh please, mother. Don’t start. Besides, I know my wardrobe is not what’s on your mind. Go ahead. Ask me.” Queen Andréa motioned for her daughter to sit down on the steps beside her. She did.

“Where have you been, Kay?” she asked. Her voice sounded hurt, beat up, and fragile. Kay laughed at her mother’s weakness.

“Where have I been? I’ve been everywhere, mother. Everywhere you weren’t. I was left, LEFT, alone, to bleed. Thank heavens I had yours and daddy’s blood otherwise I would’ve died on the spot.” Queen Andréa couldn’t help but cry.

“Why have you been toying with me? I’ve said things, done things I don’t mean! Why, Kay? Haven’t I always loved you?”

“You left me!” Kay was angry, her face red and hot, tears also beginning to stir in her oval eyes. “You left me so that your “children” would be safe from one another, seeing that your being there was causing all of the turmoil. Even when you realized you were wrong you stayed away. And I couldn’t find you! I couldn’t find you!” Her tears were coming so fast that she could barely breathe, let alone talk. Her words became quieter, as she strained to let her mind be known.

“I had to disguise myself, mother, from the world. Everyone knew who I was, but no one knew I was yours, and oh how I loved you! But you left. I had to assume a new name, pretend a human black smith was my father, and clean up the mess you left behind.”

“You have no idea how painful it is to be what your parents are not, and then become what they are, only a different species. Don’t you understand, mother? What does this world hold for us but pain and distress? If there was an ounce of peace for us here, no one would’ve headed to my will. You would have been brave and kept peace within yourself, not gallivanting to Thelonious and making things worse for yourself. Josh wouldn’t have killed Jess or gotten himself killed, so on and so forth.” Queen Andréa placed her head in her hands.

“You killed them, Kay? All of them?” She sounded tired and out of breath.

“Yes, I killed them. Why wouldn’t I? You showed them more attention than you dared to show me, even though I begged you to. You were always too busy being the Queen of the Supernatural, and you barely had time for me, your human daughter, if you thought me your daughter at all.”

“Of course I do! I love you, but I just can’t understand what has made you want to destroy those that have loved you.” Kay looked her mother in the eye.

“Power.” She whispered. “It’s all about the power.” Her eyes twinkled hellishly. Then, Queen Andréa knew.

“I’m putting a stop to all of this.” She said defiantly, and ran into the Dome. Kay tried to go in, but she couldn’t.

“What are you going to do? Create the Falling Dome?” She laughed nervously. Only a royal could create the Dome of Life to fall, crushing whoever let it fall upon them. And the royal of course, connected to each and every supernatural creature, letting supernatural life die all around the world. Kay screamed after her mother. “Don’t do anything drastic!” Queen Andréa was done listening to the horror stories, done seeing the horror she had created. It was time to set things right. Kay was right, wasn’t she? There was no place for the supernatural in the world of humans. Kay watched, horrified at the sight of her mother. Queen Andréa walked to the middle of the Dome and placed her hands high in the air. Closing her eyes, she breathed her prayer on the silent wind that flowed through.

Bless those who are no longer with us. Bless those who will soon die. Bless those who believe in us, and bless those who don’t want to try.

Her hands pulled, and with each pull of the invisible, a terrible wrenching could be heard throughout the marble structure. Queen Andréa finally put her hands down by her sides, and, with a movement just as simple as that, she had created the Falling Dome. As the debris piled upon her, her undead self finally let go of the spirit that had so long been captured with in the non-changing body. All around the world, no matter where, each and every creature whether vampire, werewolf, mock, or any other, fell down dead. Their bodies’ soon evaporated in the air. The humans watched, mystified by their sudden victory.

Years passed, and not only did the humans forget the threat of the supernatural and the undead, but the legend they had once been, soon became a glorified story retold throughout the ages from where it originally began. A vampire named Dracula, creator of all vampires born, sucked dry his fellow victims in the need for power; a tale of mystery that, not so long ago, came from the war between good and evil; the war between supernatural and supernatural; and the war between humans. The truth, buried along with the crumbling remains of The Falling Dome, was lost in time.
