Heroes, or is it all in a days work? Part 2

The first few days and nights went by and there was no sign of hostility anywhere. we hadn't seen or heard any Taliban yet, and everyone was getting restless. Then on the 4th night, about 20 min. 'til dark, just when the towers were changing guards, we heard somthing in the distance. It sounded like a single vibration like a car is driving by with the bass turned way up on their sound system. But only a short boom, from far away. So we radioed it in, then we heard a whistle, and at that moment we knew, we were under attack. So the battle begun. The round landed just outside the wire, followed by another right next to it, then a machine gun began firing from the southern mountain. We all ran to our positions and began returning as much fire as possible. We fired mortars, machineguns, AT-4's, and MK-19's at them, and finally after a couple minutes the fireing ceased. After that fight was over I thought to myself, "Man, it feels so good to be back".

The following morning, damages were assessed and repaired, and we continued to fix up the FOB to prepair us for the next attack. That night we were ready, although we didn't get attacked that night, we recieved word of some caves, near murani, so we planned a 3 day mission a couple weeks out to set up a sniper OP (Observation Point), to keep an eye out to see if there was any activity there.
