I gripped the reign on the horse tighter readying for my ride. He was already trying to throw me off and they hadn't opened the gate yet. I've been riding in the local rodeo since i was six. It's been eleven years since then and i moved from riding sheep to horses and in a few weeks i move to bulls.   

    " The last rider is Trever Johnson. He's been riding for years now, let's see if he can beat Billy's 10.6." John, the annoucner said. "You ready?" My friend Matt asked. I knodded. "Give me a three count." I said. He started counting down " 3,2......1" the gate flung open and the horse flew out. He bucked the hardest out of any horse i've ever riden. I had to hold on real tight.I could feel myself loosing grip. I quickly looked to see what my time was and it was 9.14. " Alittle longer." i told myself. "you've went twenty seconds before you can do it."  When he finally bucked me off i fell hard. When I got up I put my cowboy hat back onand looked at the time. " Wow, I can't belive ithe's done it again! 15.7, another win for Trever!" John exclaimed. I bowed and climbed over the fence to get my reward, which is five hundred dollars.

    Matt was the one who gave it to me. " congratulations Tj." "Thanks." " That crowd loves you they're still screaming." I smiled, I love the fans. They have always supported me even at my lows. "They'll scram even louder when my girl starts barrel racin'." I grinned. " Yeah ok." Matt said sarcastically. He's never liked barrel racin', don't know why though.

    When Barrel racin' started I stood on the fence closest to the last barrel. " Ladies and gents. are we ready for some barrel racin'?" John annoucned. The crowd went wild. " Ok first up is everyone's favorite Sam Anderson!" I clapped and cheered for her. It's been forever since i seen her. Recently her Ma had twins and she had to quit the rodeo to help till her Pa got home from the stone quarry. " Ok go." John said. The gate flung open and Sam and her new horse flew out of the "box" her new horsewasn't as fast as her old one, Misty. 

    She didn't hit any barrels and when she finished it was a 25.7. I could see the frustration on herface from where I was standing. "That's ok!" I yelled. She looked around then  continued to watch one of her opponents, Emily. Sam Hates Emily, always has. Something to do with a horse that Emily won in a bet they had made, Sam says Emily cheated.

    Emily beat her with a 21.2. The rest of the riders didn't come close to Emilys time. After Emily got her trophie i saw Sam go to put her horse into her trailor. She was in there with her horse brushing her when i came up. " Hey." I said leaning against the the side of the trailor. She looked " Hey stranger." She put her brush up andcame over and hugged me. " How you been?" i asked. " I've been better, it was tiresome taking care of the twins, they're a handful." she smiled. " I bet, What happened to Misty?"

    " Oh no one told you? She broke her leg and uncle Tate had to shoot her." " oh i'm sorry. She was really fast. Who's the new horse?" " Cherry, she's real slow but she's  the only horse i got. She was Misty's fawn so maybe her genes will kick in soon." " maybe."

    Cherry was brownish red and her back came up to my shoulders and i'm 6'3 so she's kind of short compared to her mom. I walked up to her and petted her face. At first she wouldn't let me. " WHoa girl." I said and she calmed down enough to let me pet her. " She's a pretty thang." I said. " yep looks like her dad." " yeah."

    Someone came up beside us " Oh there you are Trever!" Emily exclaimed. " hey." i said. " I just wanted to say congrats on your win." "THanks yours to." " Thank you." She had a twinkle in her eye. I nodded " I like your new hat and chaps." she  said looking me up and down. She made me uncomfortable. " Are you busy right now?" She asked. " No." i answered quickly. " Can i talk to you then?" " sure." She grabbed my hand and pulled me out the trailor and to her trailor. 

    "So what'd you want to talk about?" i asked putting my hands into my pockets. " Are you dating Sam?" " Not really." " So your free?" " i guess." " Well would you want to go to the diner with me sometime?" "Ok folks it's time for the six year old division of sheep ridin'" John announced. " I'll think about it, I have togo watch my brother ride." " ok" she sounded dissapointed.

    I ran to Sam's trailor. " Hey it's about to start, come on." I said excitedly. I grabbed her hand and we ran and stood by the fence. I put my hands on the rail and stood on it, so did Sam. Trey wasn't up first so we talked. " What'd Emily want?" she asked. " Asked me ifI was dating you and if I wanted to date her." " what'd you say?" " Not really and i'll think about it." " What do you mean not really? I thought we were." " You said we were on a break." " Yeah but i assumed since i was able to actually leave the house again." " Well..." I started to say when Emily walked up.

    She stood on the rail next to me. " Hey Handsome." She said. I ignored her because Trey was up. " yeah go Trey!" Me and Sam yelled in unison. Emily said nothing all she did was put her hand on mine. I ignored it because Trey was ridin'. He lasted 6 seconds. " Wow he takes after you." Sam said. I smiled " that was pretty good for his first time." I said. I saw that Sam looked at mine and Emily's hands. She got off the fence and left. "Whats wrong with her?" Emily asked all innocent. " I think it's you." " She'll get over it."
