Patrick snorted. This is impossible. He’d only gone out for a walk, and now a girl on the street, probably a beggar, was spouting his personal information saying it was from his vanished ex-girlfriend.
“I’m Daphne, and I’m to take you to Jasmine. But she said you’d be suspicious, so she told me to show you this.
Daphne pulled out a crumpled piece of paper from a leather punch with a strange marking hanging from her skirt.
Patrick unfolded it and smiled. It had to be Jasmine. The paper was a drawing of her holding a maple leaf. Patrick had sketched it at the park one Sunday – a week later she was gone.
Daphne tugged at his coat.
“Hurry, we have to go,” she whispered urgently.
Patrick folded the drawing. “But why…”
Before he could finish his sentence, he was yanked away by Daphne, who was running through the sea of people , bumping elbows and receiving angry protests.
“What’s going on?”
“They’re coming! They’re coming!” Daphne panted breathlessly.
Patrick whipped around. Sure enough, he could see two menacing figures in hot pursuit and he gaped in horror at their appearance. Their faces were horribly mangled, and their claw-like hands reached for them. Curiously, no one else seemed to see them……Comments
