          I sat there, confused and frightened, wondering what my fate would come to. All of a sudden, a loud booming noise echoed through the room. I jumped a bit, jerking my head around to find the source of the noise. A dark, shaded figure appeared in the doorway. I knew it was Amarande. I didn’t have to guess. I was sick of surprises at this point, and I was sick of getting my hopes up. I wasn’t getting out of here anytime soon, and I knew it.

            “Smart girl.” A despotic voice emanated from the shadowy figure, still out of view. I began panicking. Was he inside my mind, or was I just going insane? Did he know every last thought and detail buzzing around in my head? I didn’t want to show fear though my body quaked with it. I kept my gaze dead locked on his (or where I thought his would be), and never flinched, my face continuously emitting a blank stare. I did not speak.

            “You’re getting good at this. I constantly drill you information that would easily scare any other human to death, and yet you show no emotion or ounce of interest.” He was pushing it now.

            “I’m a fast learner,” I shoot back at him.

            “Indeed. Well, try this one on for size. Do you know what I’m planning on doing with you?” My mind drew a blank on this one. Kill me? Feed me to ravenous wolves? Beat me senseless?

            “None of the above,” he coldly and calmly replied. He stepped out of the shadows, never removing his gaze from mine, his loathing eyes burning with hatred and disgust.

            “You might as well forget your past; anything and everything good and loving you’ve come from. This includes your family, friends, and any people who’ve ever brought joy to your miserable existence.” Wow. He’s really good at this degrading business. “You are here because I brought you here. You are alive because I choose to keep you alive. And if I find that you are no longer of any use, I can take your life away just as easily. It would be very foolish of you to think otherwise. Keep that in mind.” As if he has to remind me. “The part of this you will find most shocking, is the fact that I, personally, have no use for. From here on out, you mean absolutely nothing to me,” as if I ever did, “and you will not be seeing very much of me anymore.” Hallelujah!

            His eyes narrowed even more, pressing me harder with his intense glare.

            “I wouldn’t get excited just yet.” My curiosity was bubbling over at this point. Just then, a woman appeared next to him. It was the same woman I had bumped into in the hallway. Her shiny black hair glistened under the light. The dark red dress she was sporting complimented her slender figure.  Her green eyes (shockingly similar to Luca’s, I noticed) tore right through me. I could tell thoughts of torture raced through her mind as she contemplated my fate.

            “Ah, wife I presume?” I inferred, trying to lighten the mood. I say things at the worse possible time, sometimes. Neither responded. 

            “This is Akuyuki,” Amarande finally let out, breaking the silence. “You will be her maid servant from now on.”

            “You,” Akuyuki interrupts, “will do what I say when I say it, or you will suffer the consequences.”

            “Yes, mother,” I whisper under my breath. “If I want something cleaned,” she continues, “you will clean it. If I want something made, you will make it. And if I want any other task performed, you will do it. Am I making myself clear?”

            I nod. No use getting on her wrong side so early in the game. Amarande comes forward and unlocks the cage. Then, he simply walks out of the room. I just stand there, like an idiot, and continue gawking at her.

            “Come,” she hisses. I obey immediately, stepping out of the cage and walking over to her. She turns around slowly and starts walking through the corridors. I follow her. Eventually, we arrive at a door, easily twice my height. She stands there for a few seconds, and the door slightly creaks open. She pushes it open all the way, and I look inside, curiously. My mouth nearly drops to the floor when I see what awaits me inside.
