“Follow me,” he whispered, his deep green eyes penetrating my own, confused and vacant. I was scared at this point, more so than before. Where was he taking me? What should I do, just follow him? I didn’t exactly have a choice on that last one. He yanked me forward, dragging me behind him outside, through the door. The hallway was dimly lit. Cobwebs hung from the corners, adding to the immense, eerie feeling I already got from this place. He still clung to my arm as we traveled through the maze of hallways, each seeming longer than the last.

Suddenly, I heard someone else’s footsteps at the end of the hall. I think he was scared too, because I felt him tense up. He looked around frantically. We darted to the side in a dark corner. He pushed my back up against the wall and pressed his body close to mine. Our faces were centimeters apart.

“Don’t. Say. Anything,” he whispered ever so softly. The footsteps were getting closer and closer. I peeked out, just over Luca’s shoulder. I saw the moonlight flooding in from the window, lighting up the cracked and faded hard wood floors. A shadow, I saw, bobbing up and down, growing larger and larger, in sync with the footsteps. Then, as if out of nowhere, another shadow appeared. The first shadow stopped and turned slightly, facing the second.

“What are you going to do with her?” Oh my God! Were they talking about me?

“She’d be of good use around the mansion.” It was Amarande’s voice. The other voice was female.

“You know what happened to the last one,” the female responds.

I look back at Luca. Something’s wrong. His eyes are distant. He’s far away now, remembering something in a different time. I start panicking. What if Amarande and the other lady come over here? I can feel my heartbeat increase. They’re still talking, but I can’t hear what they’re saying. I can hear the footsteps getting softer, though. They’re walking away! I try to rip away from Luca’s grasp. I want to get out of here. He tightens his grip on my arms. I look back at his face. He’s back, his eyes focusing in on mine. He’s not remembering anymore. I see the slightest tint of red around the pupils of his eyes. I try to budge again. He presses me harder against the wall.

“You’re not going anywhere,” he whispers.

“Yes, I am,” I tell him. I forcefully bang my knee against anything he’s ever used to call himself a man.

“AGHH!” he backs off of me, bending down and falling over. I take my opportunity. I leap over him, and continue running down the hall. I’m trying to remember exactly where we came from to see if there’s another door that leads outside. I’m running and running, and I don’t know where I’m going. I come upon a corner and run straight into someone, falling back hard on the ground. I look up and see a woman standing there. Her long, layered, red-tipped, black hair cascaded down her shoulders. She was wearing and evening gown. She glared down at me.

“Here she is!” she calls to someone down the hall from which she came.

Suddenly, Amarande appears behind her. His eyes are narrowed and his glare is intense. He raises his hand in the air slowly. I shut my eyes tightly and hold my breath, images flying through my mind of what he might do to me. I hear a snap, and then all is quiet. I sit there for another second. Still nothing. I open my eyes barely enough to peek out. It’s brighter. I open my eyes all the way and look around. I’m in the cage once more. The lights are on, the cage is closed, and Eliza is gone. The only thing that remains where she once was is a simple strand of dirty blonde hair.
